EA Sports Engineer: Wii U is crap, < powerful than 360. No $ 3party. [Tweets Deleted]

Why wouldn't it? They tried to catch lighting in a bottle twice with the WiiU. A controller gimmick isn't going to sell consoles twice in a row. Most people don't even know the WiiU exists. They think it's an add on for the Wii.

They are not going to make oodles of cash selling tech that 5-8 years old at inflated prices like they did the Wii. It's just not going to happen.

Getting out of hardware would let them focus on what Nintendo does best, make fun games.

The Wii U (allegedly) makes money with one single game being sold, it makes no sense for them to leave the HW market.

If I were an EA shareholder, I'd demand that you be named the new corporate vp for creative development. (After I was done buying you a beer, a 14-oz ribeye, and a table dance from the finest adult entertainer in the city.)

fuck yeah.

i would even throw a bone at Nintendo and have Mario and Zelda featured as lightweights.

The Wii is your example of something different. It tapped into markets game companies had no clue about. The Wii U has nothing like that going for it and is off putting to many of the people that made the Wii what it is/was.

I agree, the Wii is a much better example. The WiiU seems to me an attempt to bridge the gap between the Wii "different" approach and the PS360 "normal" approach. But I still think the GamePad is infinitely more interesting than the PS4, which appears to be a PS3 with more beef. And hey, if that's what you want, it's perfect.

He's probably sick and tired about being asked about the Wii-U since a lot of attention is now on EA bailing out on the platform.

Regardless of how anyone thinks about the system and the capabilities, it's clear that it's not easy to port games from the PS360 over to the Wii-U when that should have been one of Nintendo's main goals. It makes no sense to expect extensive R&D for a system to match the performance of 7+ year old platforms when the industry is ready to move onto a new batch of consoles offering a new level of performance.

Sorry, I made a mistake. I meant Nintendo rejected their Origin thing but also EA deserve it because of that shamefull FIFA port.

Wait, do people really believe this silly Origin rumor or do you guys just keep telling yourself it's a possibility to help you cope and ignore the reality surrounding the situation?

I've seen a good number of logical and thoughtout responses as to why this Origin excuse is stupid, yet I still see it repeated time and time again.

Gamer Warz on Twitter never fail to entertain. You'd think after the numerous firings of people who share their personal opinion, this kind of thing would stop. Nope.

Nintendo makes lot of their money off of hardware and licensing. Having the resources and freedom of a platform owner is what allows them to make those games and give them the time and resources necessary for that quality.

Nintendo already stumbled trying to expand and update development for HD hardware that they designed for themselves, with companies pulled off projects to help out and huge droughts in their first-party output. Imagine them suddenly having to upgrade yet again while losing the resources and freedom afforded by being a hardware owner. We rightfully grumble about Pikmin 3 taking an extra 9 months of development, but imagine a world in which every team that would even be able to work on a fan favorite unguaranteed venture like Pikmin is devoted to simply making sure that they can ship 3D Mario 2015 on schedule.

This has gone from disgusting to just plain embarrassing.

This guy is not only perpetuating lies hes attacking a company and the people who support them on a personal level.

At this point that EA is without a doubt actively trying to destroy Nintendo they are going beyond juvenile at this point and they think they can flex their muscles and destroy a company because they are upset with them because lord knows what happened behind the scenes. Something went wrong and EA instead of being an adult and releasing minimal support for the console like always they are throwing a fit and both publicly and privately being just plain disrespectful.

lol

It doesn't matter whether they deserve it or not. Didn't you hear? Once the neogaf machine decides you're going to be fired, that's it.

At least, that's what all the gaming outlets had to say last time the machine really let loose, and we wouldn't want to disappoint all the news sites who skim gaf to copy headlines, would we?

ROFL!!!!! I love this place :-)

The truth: This morning, we had a few earthquakes, I thought of Nintendo's love hotels, then I fell back asleep. I never knew such an unprecedented backlash would occur, vibrating beds are the best. Developers are forcing Nintendo's hand, and shortening the life cycle of this console because they know Nintendo can do better, but choses to rely solely on their name.

I remember growing up on Nintendo consoles, but I never would have thought it would come to this.

Crevez Nintendo.

Again, look at hardware sell rates for the Wii in it's first year, and then look at the WiiU. Then look at Nintendo stock price at it's peak in 2008 and look at it now.

The model they are on is not working, period. The hardware isn't selling and there is no 3rd party support....again.

Yeah and no one is denying things are bad right now. But why in the world would Nintendo abandon the business after one huge mistake? Especially when coming off the Wii they regained so much of the market? I am not saying they should sit on this and not change anything. No one thought after N64 and Gamecube they could even compete with MS and Sony. Yet they did and became #1.

But going 3rd party is the last ditch effort to remain afloat. Nintendo isn't dead like Sega was. They have money. They can survive the terrible Wii U and still recover if they correct their mistakes on the next console. Just because the Wii U is a mistake doesn't mean they should completely abandon their whole console business and go third party. Seems more like you want them to rather than them needing to.

And Nintendo going third party(which hopefully will never happen) is
about the worse thing that could possibly happen to this industry.

They aren't considering blocking used games, are apprehensive with the
whole DLC area(as am I), don't plan on using online as drm and are
keeping game costs in check compared to the rumored $69 price for Durango
and PS 4 games.

Be careful what you ask for gamers. We need Nintendo.

LOL at Anticitizen One rushing over here from IGN to post a thread about this. Expect him in this thread with the usual spiel in 3, 2, 1...

What do we care if the guy isn't representing his company professionally? I'm not EA – I welcome people in the industry that have the guts enough to speak their minds.

I don't get peoples blind love and adoration for products and companies. Some will fight to the death to defend a corporation that is only out to make money off your dime. Fucking coo coo for cocoa puffs if you ask me.

I'm 30 years old. I grew up playing nintendo games and owning their consoles. I never bought a Wii and won't buy a WiiU, why?

Because I'm not dropping $250 to play a mario or zelda game once every 3-5 years. I'm a consumer of reasonable intelligence and the sale rates of the WiiU (and the Wii in the last few years of it's life) tell you that people aren't getting fooled by Nintendo again. If you are going to sell hardware that is inferior technologically, you damn well better put out a slew of great titles to support it.

LOL @ people who think he will be fired.
For what? Because he said the truth.
He works in the industry so he got some inside knowledge going.
But yeah just fire him because he insulted my childhood idol Nintendo

Fuck me I wrote a post at the top of one page and by the time i posted it another page and a half had been added lol

Machine well and truly in motion!

Why would a supposed Senior Software Engineer at EA Sports only have 40 followers and nobody following him from EA? Has anyone confirmed if he is legit?

But that isn't the case. Sonic Racing, MH3U, Scribbenauts, ZombiU and most of the indie stuff (Trine 2, Nano Assault, Runner2, MSF, The Cave, etc) seem to be doing decently, better than the established PS3/360 bases in some cases even.

EA bombed pretty hard on PS3 and Wii launches back in the day too. 3DS and Vita also. The only systems in recent memory they've done "great" on at the outset were 360 and PSP.

A couple of those retail titles are exclusives, and I think that "decently" really needs to be qualified. For instance -- though based on hearsay -- I thought Scribblenauts underperformed expectations on the Wii U. And though I know that Sonic Racing turned into a modest success in terms of worldwide shipments, the only victory I remember hearing about in terms of Wii U success was that after the first month, though it did pretty badly across the board, it did less bad on the Wii U. After that, I only remember seeing total shipped numbers.

It's not like I want him fired (and so do I hope nobody else does) but I'm not sure if EA will agree.

Lose his job, not loose his job.

Do you have any idea of all the "who/whom" that have been angering my ocd throughout this thread? I've held back from saying anything, but since you started it...

a hug from who? lol

WHOM.

Who to believe, the EA guys who ported FIFA13 or the EA guys who ported NFSMW?

WHOM to believe.

There's a ton more, but I'm too busy trying to keep up with the thread.

There goes his career.
It's EA, they probably release his tweets as an official statement.
plus its just a opinion, that guy from MS got fired because he told "customers" to deal with it

I'm sure he won't be fired, probably get a telling off, that's just the day and age we live in right now, it happens all over twitter.

Sad really that people can't voice opinions, but that's the fucked up digital-age we live in.

at least he has experience to back it up and its not just some journalist

Im sure he has worked on both consoles..so wouldnt he know more than any of us which is crap?

Hate on EA all you want, but they have been in this game for a long time. They are not stupid and know a sinking ship when they see one. The Wii U was DOA and it is only going to get worse as this year rolls along. You cannot blame them or anyone else who is avoiding this console like the plague.

Yeah, same thing happened with the NES, they surely avoided a sinking ship that time too.

What do we care if the guy isn't representing his company professionally? I'm not EA – I welcome people in the industry that have the guts enough to speak their minds.

While I agree with this, unfortunately this isn't always the case. He's discussing matters that involve the company he works for so while he's not speaking for the company, and I love it when devs speak their mind, there are still better ways of doing it.

EA has been voted worst company twice in a row, his comments simply confirm this.
