I was surprised at the $9.99 price tag, but I shrugged it off and said I'd buy it later when I don't have games to play or wait for one of their sales.

Don't understand the hate. If you don't like the price, don't buy it. Nintendo will eventually put it on sale most likely.

Smh... how can a thread about a digital release of fricking Eartbound for 10 (ten) bucks be so negative???

2 bucks...jeez. I highly doubt the majority of the complainers would've bought it for 8.

"Nintendo sucks and I don't care about them at all, which is why I am going to post 50 times in every Nintendo related thread telling everybody how much I don't care about them..."

Maybe there is some kind of ambassador program in a weird cult that gives you karma points for bashing Nintendo. I just overlook those comments and move on, otherwise my life will get shorter every time I read those comments.

Anyway, I will download this game probably after I finish Pikmin 3. Right now I'm playing Lego City Undercover. Never played EartBound, though, but I love RPGs.

I wonder if the extra cost for this game and TMNT is due to licensing or something? Say 1-2 bucks goes for licensing music, or whatever.

I've just paid £7 for an exceptionally rare, massively acclaimed game. As that's £1.50 (that's more than $2!) more than a standard SNES game here I guess I'm meant to be outraged, instead of celebrating that I finally get to play this game at a fantastic price.

I didn't ask for any guide at all. Certainly not for a one that apparently costs 25% of the base game price.
You do realize that it's one of the most charming aspects of the original release and came with the game, hence the giant box. Very well written and chocked full of fun art and factoids. If feels like a real travel guide. The fact that people are getting upset over a $2 hike for one Of the rarest SNES games of all time is making me want to throw my phone across the room in irritation.

Nintendo is an easy target because they are actually ass-backwards in many obvious ways. And it's also easier to take the piss out of them rather than, you know, do something even slightly substantive like send them an e-mail about your discontent as a customer, or putting suggestions of how to do better in those Club Nintendo surveys.

You aren't supposed to get mad over them. You're supposed to point and laugh at them.

Entered this thread expecting to see people acting pissy over $2. Was not disappointed. Or maybe I was disappointed.

Finally being able to show Nintendo that we support this official release is key. Instead of a joyous celebration, we have rumblings from a few detractors. I hope as many people as possible get a chance to experience this classic.

People will defend any of nintendo's bullshi tactics it seems.

What does it matter? Itoi is done, unless you want an official mother 3 translation

Based on what? As far as I can recall Nintendo has only done VC sales on new releases.

What about the 1st anniversary 3DS eshop sale? That saw Link's Awakening, Super Mario Land and Super Mario Land 2 all reduced. I'm not saying Earthbound will be reduced, but it's not without precedent

I wonder what the odds are that this release manages to outsell the original SNES release? On the one hand, the original sold like crap. But on the other, not many people own Wii U's. Hmm....

It should be a 99 cent iOS game. You can literally play it with one hand. The graphics aren't good either!

There's an Auto Battle option. It's too casual!

Includes a guide. Handhold much?

EarthBound is an acquired taste IMO. It's not an easy sell without spending time with it, but that would almost require buying it anyways.

Yeah I've given it some thought and maybe the extra 2€ is justified. I just want to clarify that I never complained that Earthbound wouldn't be worth 10€. I was just disappointed because the image I got is that after seeing the demand for game Nintendo chose to release it as a premium priced release. I really was looking to forward buying it and I'm going to do so now any way. Still I can't help but feel little bit of disappointed. They should explain better where the extra price comes from when the price doesn't line up with other releases in my opinion.

what is exactly bs about this? the $10 price tag?

do games value really diminish that much in some peoples eyes over time?

They will. Somebody's definitely going to ask them, anyway.

Sigh. Buy the game, or don't. But to call this a 'bullshit tactic' is just out of line.

Why did i hurt nintendo's honor?

And no i think earthbound is worth 60 dollars. Doesn't mean i think nintendo is justified getting fans extra money because they have waited for years

I'm defending it as I fail to see how paying an extra 50p for a rare import SNES game is somehow terrible. I paid an extra £1.40 for the import VC download of Sin and Punishment and that was imo perfectly justified as well, and that game goes for considerably cheaper that Eartbound.

People expect ninty to market a virtual console game. What in the actual fuck? People are trying their damnedest to hate Nintendo.

I actually do wish Nintendo would market the VC. They should be running tv ads with 8-bit Mario and Mega Man running across the screen. But that complaint is about 7 years late.

This, some people seem to have an issue with old Nintendo games keeping their value over time. If games from the past are still better than indie games we have today, if people value that and are ready to pay for that value, what is bullshit about it?

No, you're just whining for the sake of whining.

I get it, you don't like Nintendo's pricing strategy. But to just discredit it without any thought behind shows that you have preconceived notions about Nintendo and Earthbound, and are just using the pricing scheme to justify it.

That would be tops. I understand that there will be no Itoi's driven Mother games coming. But that does not mean I can't be excited for new players to get a chance to experience a game I loved as a kid. And it just happens that they have the chance now. Today even! So is it so far fetched to hope that this could lead to an official Morher 3 release? Probably. But isn't that the point of keeping hope alive?

Sounds like Nintendo is like any other company in the world. Shocker.

I'm not trying to say I don't know why they did it but all things considered (Nintendo denying re-release for years and then hyping up on a Direct how they listen to fans wanting Earthbound) I think if that was what really happened then I can't help but feel little unhappy.

okay, this is a dead end.

if you want to talk about the game go to the earthbound ot, if you want to talk about nintendo dl platform stuff go to nintendo downloads
