Can someone give me a time reference for this personal attack on the thread? As the OP, I'll decide on a suitable, toxic response void of any love and respect.

Yea I'm super curious about this question asker. Can't watch the panel since I'm boarding my plane right now but who the hell thinks gaf is bad compared to the dumpster fire that is YouTube? Most people in this thread behave and even when someone comes into shitpost people generally tell them to step off

Gaf is a happy frolic compared to like actual shitty places on the net
That's the best part. It wasn't about negativity in the community

The question was "someone says something not exactly constructive and everyone piles them for saying it but it's all basically the same thing and just as bad, so when do EZA step in and say you're not welcome in viewing our content, we don't want your money"

Not an exact quote of course but gotta give them some material for the next Q&A

It's at 53:10

Oh my god, hahahah - that question was awful (well the GAF targeting was) . At least we don't bully other parts of the community :'(

Do people just see us as a pit of snakes/spiders where no light escapes? We're people too!

Also, to get really hipster. The GT GAF thread was one of the first community pages for these guys.

(For what Holundrian said, from the beginning of this thread, I've only interjected on people's criticisms when I feel like they've strayed from constructive and are just a thinly veiled personal attack. Which (fingers crossed) I feel has become much rarer).

Well damn lol. In general I'd say the people that are actually toxic and hurling insults at EZA aren't contributing to the patreon

Dunno how it is for others but this and last year's summer time I've just been cruising on podcasts only + now the gundam streams. Seems like for better or worse I follow the streams only closely during school time lol. Tbf it's easier to enjoy that alongside doing school stuff vs when you have holidays and can be either active outside or laze around and binge on games hardcore.
Maybe the summer patreon dip has similar reasons related to it.

I actually fell off of podcasts too for a few weeks, all caught up now though

With Bosman v Wozniak gone there really aren't any streams I follow regularly. Sometimes I'll just pop in on whatever's currently being streamed but I don't actively seek out streams unless I'm curious about a game

I don't know if I've mentioned it in here before (or if it's a common sentiment) but I have to commend Huber on the Syndrome. That show had a really rocky start for a while, where he wasn't sure if he wanted it to be a compromised Huber Hype or something new, but it's really come into its own in the past few months. The green screen must be a lightning rod for his hype.

I think it's operating on the level of peak Huber Hype right now which is pretty fantastic

i came to GAF because of the darkness

or cuz of this GT video. i dunno
I think I saw NeoGaf sourced on gaming news so I started to follow it. Then at some point wanted to join the discussion, took me really long to get approved. Probably a year atleast, I think it was 3rd email I tried before I got in. My first post was calling out "GAF" for bullying Cliffy B. Used strong language, surprised my first post wasn't my last.

Just beat Demon's Souls for the first time.

It was alright, but I found the bosses much less memorable that other Souls games and not that hard.

I initially found out about GAF from that famous Feep post leading up to the release of Scribblenauts. I didn't actually join, because I thought it was a forum specifically for developers and insiders. Later when I found out one of my friends had an account I signed up, and got approved like 4 months later.

Destiny 2 preview made me actually interested in the game. Might pick it up after finsihing Yakuza 3. dont have many planned purchases in September aside from Golf Story.

I haven't watched any streams since Bos vs Woz ended. I usually don't like watching streams, but for some reason I got super invested in a silly Tetris series.

...it was probably due to the deep lore
What does Grandpa Oil even do!? :p

I did.
Didn't find it particularly special, neither in writing nor in general design.
*shrug*

Then clearly Horizon isn't the game for you. That's fine. Personally, I loved those missions because they each had an impact on the world and the scenarios they set up (eg,
sneaking into their base, stealth killing dudes before finally attacking and fighting the corrupted machine, while the other Nora attacked the base and killed the other dudes
) were really fun.

I haven't watched it yet but it sounds to me like he was a dick in this thread, everyone told him to stop being a dick and he decided to cry about it to EZA during a live Q&A of all places. So weird.

Man, I remember being so excited for Scribblenauts prior to release. Then it came out and I was bored of it in less than an hour. Once you got over the novelty of all the things you could do, there just wasn't anything to keep you in it. I did play one of the later ones though, the one before the DC one (Unlimited?), and had a lot more fun with that.

I first heard of GAF from a Resident Evil fan community some time around the late PS2 gen. I had a look at it back then but it seemed like such a disorganised mess that I didn't stick around. I came back eventually around the start of last gen because GAF was such a great source of news and informed posts. I lurked for years because it was pretty intimidating, finally got an account in 2010 and then slowly posted more and more often from then onwards.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Whew listening to this PAX record, and suddenly this guy out of nowhere spends his one Q&A question saying "how do we stop those GAF meanies from even viewing your content or giving you money!". Howdy, sir. Stay seated.

Been finding the Hottake's a bit weak in recent Frame Traps. Ben has to like poke and prod for way to long to get any conversation going, and it just seems like sometimes they just need to be let go quicker rather than fill air.

Huge round of applause for farisr making as many Best Of's before slowing production. As the Patreon seems to have stalled, and the PAX question underlined, it is ABSOLUTELY content that EZA needs to be funding themselves. Either they need to do it themselves or find a way to pay some small salary to someone like farisr that does. You can look at the Game Grumps business model or whatever, it's just absolutely necessary production to grow and, at some point if any numbers dip too dramatically, survive.

Close to the start of Year 3, if theres no Bosman News show, something like ye olde Mandatory Update, or Best Of's, I think it's going to be real rough for them going forward.

On the other side of the coin, I'm surprised I hated Trailer Jones (the show) return as much as I did, and am not sad to see it missing. Everyone seemed to be in real weird places with their scoring and the format of one trailer chosen and perhaps too focussed on was a real bore.

Weekly streams have been great due to some good picks recently. Not too sure about this weeks one as it seems very throwaway, but DBZ won and Huber needs to relax his eyes about Nappa in FighterZ.

What comments or discussion on GAF come close the homophobia and intolerance that get up votes in the EZA YT comments?

Every one hates GAF, but they sure do spend a lot time lurking GAF.

So if people were disappointed that Huber wasn't on the podcast last week to react to the HL3 story release. This week's Frametrap is here for you. A great Huber valve rant is stored in it

Budokai 3 shows 37% to me.

That's unfortunate. I don't have anything against DB Budokai 3, but I really want to see them play more Nidhogg. I think it works very well as seen on Easy Update (although I don't know for sure if it will work for 2 hours to be honest).

Was a fun panel but I don't really see them getting to their office space goal anytime soon with that kind of attitude....which is fine I guess, so long they are content with the situation.

Business wise they seem to be in such a fragile place, Are they really intending to just ride the patreon wave forever?

Are there realistically any other options aside from being bought out? Patreon is more stable than the advertising market right now, other than direct sponsorship and that would require a full time business contact and given the size of the audience, I'm not sure that persons wages would be made back.

Outside of the big media groups, people are going to have to get used to having to pay for the content they want, because YouTube and banner adverts aren't going to be enough for creators anymore.

I stupidly, completely forgot that they still have to pay taxes on patreon money. I can't believe that hasn't crossed my mind. Assuming it's the self employed tax it's fairly steep.

I don't have any clear answers but just the way they go about "youtube views don't matter, we've got patreon" seems kind of short-sighted. Generally the advice from other successful youtubers is to try to diversify your income, so that even if your main income source gets compromised you'd have other things to fall back on. Brandon's attitude struck me more as "we'll see how long this lasts and I guess that's that"

Rather than just riding it out they could use this time to think of some backup plans and other means to get some extra income. It's not neccessarely something worth stressing out about but seeing as they seem to be in a somewhat comfortable spot right now it might be a good time to think about stuff like that.

I wonder if the sponsor tier negates other larger companies from being sponsors too. Think Squarespace, MVMT Watches, etc.

The sponsor tier was really important to get them started, but I think they've the exposure now to get additional funds by including some larger companies too.

That's what I mentioned earlier. It's not the tier, those sponsors need a dedicated contact they can call up when a word is slightly misspoken or they went slightly "off message" during the sponsor part or whatever. They also tend to need demographic information about the audience, so a yearly survey or user research or whatever, so without getting someone in to do those things (and eating up the budget to do that), it's not feasible with everything else they do.

Plus the size of the audience. Don't know how many downloads the audio versions get, but the YouTube views currently wouldn't facilitate that.

Agreed man. Anecdotally people that generally have these stances I've seen just been generally hypocritical. GAF got a bad rep in a couple of places I post so I do see these type of people a lot. They also generally share being unbelievably selective in their reading.

And I don't necessarily mean to defend gaf all that much given that my 1 and only ban has been instigated by a pedophile ex mod(the amirox guy) whining to a current one but I just have a hard time people always generalizing places. Basically bad and good is everywhere.
That has held true to this day for me.

In my experience, most of the people who vilify GAF online tend to be people who have been banned from here.

I listened to Frame Trap on a flight as well and I agree, it made for a great travel companion. One thing that was slightly annoying though was how soft their voices were (I think I listened to the ep where Huber shares his critique of ARMS). I could barely hear what they were saying over the plane sounds. Of course turning the volume up didn't help because whenever they would laugh it would get really loud.

I really need to invest in some noise canceling headphones.

That's kind of on them also. They don't have anyone monitoring their levels during podcasts like at GT.

I doubt they do much post processing on the audio and while most of them have solid mic discipline, Huber and Damiani definitely need to work on it.

Auctopus

Member
Good mic discipline (which I admit is difficult for a 3 hour podcast) would improve the sound but also a mixer with some sort of personalised compression. Eg. HEAVY compression on Huber.

They absolutely need a mixer. It's almost impossible to listen to them without headphones because they are extremely loud whenever they pop off, and barely audible when speaking at normal volumes

Ben should make it his mission to get most of the Allies to play Xenoblade Chronicles in order to get it in the Hall of Greats.

I was actually on my largest binge when I was grinding in a certain gacha game *barf* (GBF!). I had a couple of goals there and kept listening to Easy Allies and other shows to hold on. Now that I've finished that for now, I naturally took the past month or so to lighten on EZA. Skipped my usual content for weeks at a time. I've been busy with other things, games that respect my time more, etc.

Grabbed back on with this latest Frame Trap though (which was a solid one). I'm probably going to piecemeal the 50-hour Beach stream since it ended up in the crash as well. A part of me feels almost like it's wrong to skip content, since I watched so frequently in the past, but there's not and I'll get over it.

P.S. Unless it's a Don-centric episode, then skipping it is a sin I must atone for!

Disclaimer: I don't know if the person in question is sick or otherwise hindered (though nobody else does either?), but...

Anybody know Every Frame a Painting? Well, I was a fan and wanted to check out the videos I missed in the past year, but... There are none. Thing is, Tony Zhou has a Patreon. 4500 Patreons. Around 7.7 k Dollars and people asking on the wall that he should comes back. Am I missing something or is that a little bit bizarre?

In before the Allies vanish forever.

EDIT: I am dumb. It charges per vid, not month. NEVERMIND.

I really enjoy Every Frame a Painting. I had no idea (or likely completely forgot) they had a Patreon. I too have been waiting what feels like forever for a new video.

The Patreon seems to only charge per video, so unless I'm missing something, it doesn't seem like a go-around. As a non-Patreon follower, I'd love to hear something on them though.

Hearing Daniel talk about Agents of Mayhem is a bit of a downer. It wouldn't have taken too many tweaks for that game to have been legit great.

Regarding the NeoGAF / toxic question, I'd put any money on this is a guy who spouts L&R but also flips the switch at times and talks trash online at the same time.

I've not watched any of the solo streams since Easy Livin. I just can't go back to them after how good that was. They're at their best when there's at least 2-3 hanging out.
