EB.com lists Halo 2 X-Pack - contents and price...

I posted this in the other thread:

I thought whole appeal of the Xbox HDD and to a lesser extent LIVE was that developers could release extra stuff for their games to extend replayability and the such. Like Ninja Gaiden's Hurricane Pack or whatever. Awesome.

To charge 20 bucks for 9 maps that should've been there in the first place is pretty low, considering that Halo 2 is one of the best selling games this generation.

The sad thing is that most people will pay for it, which essentially makes Halo 2 a 70 dollar game. And people whine about EA and company most likely charging 60 dollars for premium games, this is by far worse. No one is making you buy it, but holy hell, 20 bucks for 9 maps? That's more than 2 dollars per level. Considering they could just as easily put them on the OXM demo disc or the Exhibition discs, this is high way robbery.

i dont understand why they "should have" been there.

after a game like halo is released its wrong for the developer to make more maps available?

Yeah where's this "they should've been included on the original" argument stem from..?

Anyway I don't think $20 for 9 maps + a bonus movie is a ripoff in any way. It is sorta a blow though, when gamers have been promised free maps, etc., and it's already been so long.

I'm sure these maps will rock though :D But yeah, you can't help but feel a little cheated.

I could've sworn way back in the day there was something posted about there were supposed to be more multiplayer maps available for the retail version but they got taken out at the last minute (except for the unlockable Wizard-like level, Foundation was it? I forget, we never play it).

So is anyone gonna find that quote where they were promised to us for free? And Hang'em High and Wizard are the only two maps they mentioned that got cut.

No matter how you want to spin it,20 bucks for nine maps is not that bad of a deal unless you just a fuckin tight wad.

I would really disagree with you there (most PC expansions sell for $10 more and include additional single player content as well as new weapons / items / gameplay options).

But 9 maps for $20 is a lot more palatable than the rumored 6 maps for $30, and certainly not something that I would consider a "colossal" rip-off.

so hang em is NOT one of the 9 maps???

That's not been confirmed...it was in a EGM issue a little bit after release that it and Wizard were gonna be in the game they just didn't have enough time...

Yes, Hang Em' High and Wizard, we're running on the Halo 2 engine, but they didn't have enough time to implement the maps into Halo 2, before the game shipped. Since then, it has been speculated, that Bungie is finishing the maps, for download over Xbox Live.

As much as I want Sidewinder I can see it being just like Coag/WW...maybe if they shortened it...or only used it for like BTB TS or something...I want more BTB team slayer matches,it's just all out war :lol

So true. Ice Fields is still my favorite map in a Halo game. Of course, I also have enjoyed Halo PC much more than Halo 2 so I guess I'm somewhat biased.

ok, they are charging for the retail disc... that was kind of expected IMO. firstly, they need to pay for pressing the discs and packaging (yeah, i know its not 20 bucks worth :P), but secondly (and more importantly) its a nice way to try and intice more live subscribbers....

we still dont know how live users will get this DLC. its rumored that we'll get 2 maps per month. thats at least half-way decent, but still pretty shitty. hopefully, live users will be able to download all maps at the same time (or earlier) the retail disc is available.

personally, i think its retarded to bitch till we hear how its going down, so i'm waiting till friday to get out the pitchforks and convince bungie/ms that they made the wrong choice, assuming we'll have to wait each month for the 2 maps

YES. Most of those maps were actually fun to play in pretty much every game type. Unlike in Halo 2 where it seems like every map is good for one type of match but sucks for everything else.

Xbox hater here:

how's that milking? It's just an expanison for a superpopular game. Basically - free money for MS/Bungie.

Milking = Mario games NOT Halo 2 XP !!!

You may be an xbox hater, but you make a good point. No one has to buy this content if they dont want to.

I miss Halo PC maps. WTF was Bungie thinking by not including those in Halo 2? Those maps actually took the whole playing mechanics and made maps catered to Halo gameplay. I don't know... some of the Halo 2 maps just seem like it doesn't really take advantage of things like Halo 1 PC did.

Exactly. It's not like people HAVE TO get this, their copy of Halo 2 still will be working fine.

Ask GearBox. Maps are theirs not Bungie's.

Actually, they never said that the downloadable content would be free.

What they actually said:

http://www.bungie.net/News/TopStory.aspx?story=rumorbuster

The Rumor: The Bungie.net clan and stat features will require a paid subscription.

The Facts: The online aspect of Halo 2 – apart from your Xbox Live subscription that is – will be free. Gratis. That means clans, stats, delicious kernels of Bungie.net information and anything else except the contents of the Bungie store, will be yours. To keep. For nothing. Because we love you.

There will possibly even be free downloadable content. That's how awesome we are. Think of it as the game that keeps on giving.

Considering this game is one of the top sellers of this year, making both Bungie and MS lots of money, why try to stretch the deal by making off-liners pay $20 for a bunch of maps.

Heck, we can buy Katamari for that much.

Well, they say that dlc possibly will be free. I guess that possibility flew out the window...

An EA quality move? This sounds like someone who has no clue what they are talking about using a "GAF" buzzword or scapegoat (EA) to make a point that doesn't seem to exist in the post. Because often EA provides tons of additional content at a bargain price? Or attempts to make their roster downloads available to users who don't have Live so that Ricky Williams isn't perpetually on the Dolphins in default roster modes.

And you are doubting their quality because why? I'd wager they are a combination of old and new maps, period. Had Bungie released rehashes of all of the H1 maps with the game originally they would've gotten raped by game journalists and fans alike and the amount of GAF crying would be even worse.

Keep your tired, sniveling, whining to yourself. Seriously.
But, I still love you, kiddo.
I love you too man. Anyway, I guess this is tired whining seeing as how I tried to wrap the post up as the school bell was ringing.

Anyway, I guess I really shouldn't doubt the quality of the maps but I am interested to see if any of the maps do anything new. That trench warfare map that was floating around sounded interesting to me because you actually had to use cover. I wouldn't mind if one or two of the maps were pulled and redone from the original Halo but if any of these new maps are similar to waterworks or Coag, I will probably end up passing. Some of the maps have serious balance issues. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

yeah, i definitely see that, but i dont think it would be good buisness sense to say something will possibly be free, then later decide to charge for it. the again, i guess that is part of the uproar :P

personally, i'd bet 20 bucks that live users will get the DLC free. i just dont like the idea that the dlc may be stagered over several months...
