Ed Boon on MKvsDC (Giant Bomb video interview)

Sometimes, not showing something has more of an impact than showing it.
If you're trying to do put death in a classy way, yeah. A not far-off example is when the deaths of Dick Grayson's parents got censored in to simply watching their silhouettes fall in Batman: TAS. It worked better than what they originally planned.

This, however, is a fighting game based mostly around murder and gore. The classy route doesn't really apply.

I don't think he's referring to classiness so much as he's referring to the classic trope of horror movies - the best way to horrify someone is to show them nothing and let their imagination fill in the blanks. It's always way more horrifying that way.

And come on, you're acting as if the only good thing that has ever been in Mortal Kombat has been the violence. Yes, the violence is rad and the major sticking point for everyone, but the game looks like a hell of a lot of fun and that's all that matters.

Exactly

Eh. 90% of it was the pr bs or known things I've heard hundred times already, but he did say few other things.

Seems like dlc characters is a given, tho he didn't sound 100% sure.

I'm glad he was asked about his original idea for mk8. I didn't like the answer. Seems like he doesn't care anymore about reworking MK from the ground up, where only 2-3 original characters would stay. He doesn't say anything about it anymore. He seemed to have dollar signs talking about dc co-project. Boon, don't bullshit me - you didn't have anything close in mind to having Batman in the game while talking about "fundamental changes" with your team.

If only I knew what happened between Tobias and Boon.

i'm buying the game, but please Boon don't give in to the money or next MK you'll be doing will be Mortal Kombat vs Disney.

I did love when he almost said: "WHAT THE F.....?" :lol

I'd say the more horrifying the scene the more it stays with you, but meh it does not matter now anyway. I liked the way the joker shot was already.

i saw kitana do jumpkick -> fan -> jumpkick -> fan -> jumpkick -> fan as a combo... how is this shit not broken?

actually, now i'm *more* interested than before, if only to see what kind of fucked up 100% combos i can pull off...

You can use a portion of your rage meter to pull off a combo breaker at any time, so worst-case-scenario, should there be some 100% combos, you have a way to get around them.

yeah, we had fatalities that faded out before, like Classic Sub-Zero's in UMK3... people thought it was dumb, nobody said "wow, i can't imagine how horrible it must be to not know!"

You mean ***** Breaker, right? Midway has enough money problems without getting sued by Rare.

edit:
:lol

Combo spelled with a K is censored?

it has no blood? o.O and the arenas look very crappy. i have bad feeling about this game, i think it will probably bomb.

Yeah what's up with that? In earlier videos there was some blood now I see nothing. Looks even more weaksauce that way.

Your avatar makes me wish Lobo was in the game...

p.s. there is blood just not buckets of it, and the arenas look pretty good to me.

Well, one of the ways you build the meter in the first place is by being on the defensive. Getting beaten up, blocking etc. So I doubt there will ever be at a point where someone could pull a 100% or even a large combo and the other player would not have built up enough RAGE! to counter it.

As for the Kitana combo, old MKs had similar stuff where you could only do stuff like that a certain number of times and the game wouldn't allow you to continue it. For example, automatically knocking back the aggressor after x move so he/she would be too far out of range to continue. Not saying that's the case here, but whatever.
