I'm not seeing any EDM acts for NYE this year. Was planning to, but they're way too expensive and I just decided to do something more chill.

Tomorrowland is a massive festival with many different DJs playing, so you can go to see whichever DJs you like. There definitely isn't a singular sound for the festival.

Best Single

1. Joris Voorn - Ringo: This track is so minimal yet so damn good. The first time I heard this was during an incredible 6-hour set by Laurent Garnier and it stood out among the best tracks he played all night.

2. Pryda - Power Drive: I can't put together a Best of 2013 list without mentioning Power Drive, one of the best and most rave-inducing tracks ever. Of course it comes from Prydz, who is just an all-around musical genius, so it's not surprising how good it is.

3. BT - Skylarking: I forgot about this track until I was reminded of it in a post below, so I had to edit it in. My summer was pretty defined by this track, I think I listened to it at least once a day whenever I was walking outside. Such a beautiful, melodic piece of music.


Best Album

1. Mat Zo - Damage Control: I had this album on repeat for a few weeks after it came out. There's not a single track on this album that I think is less than great.

2. Anjunadeep 05: Really, really, really, really good deep house. Love playing this on a lazy Sunday when I just want to lounge around at home not doing much of anything.

3. Daft Punk - Random Access Memories: The album didn't really strike a chord with me when it first came out, but the more I've listened to it the more it has grown on me. There are some truly special tracks on this album.


Best Set (online)

1. Eric Prydz - Essential Mix 2013: Nothing even comes close. This is far and away my most-played set of the entire year.

1. Laurent Garnier @ Output: This was on the Sunday that Electric Zoo was canceled, so I was pretty bummed out all day, but the world suddenly became a brighter place once Laurent started playing. Very impressive 6-hour set that I will not soon forget.

2. Max Graham @ Slake: Another 6-hour set, this one happened over Thanksgiving. A combination of trance, progressive, electro, and deep house. Great energy throughout.

3. Eric Prydz @ EPIC 2.0: I really wanted to like this set but it just left something to be desired. Of course, Prydz at his worst is still better than 95% of other DJs on their best day, but when I compare it to his Roseland set in 2012 I can't help but be a little disappointed.


Best Podcast/Mixtape Series

1. International Departures with Myon and Shane 54: This podcast is, week in week out, my favorite thing to listen to. It's always a very easy listen with some great tracks, and that Hungarian accent never gets old.

2. Group Therapy with Above & Beyond: Good 2-hour weekly mix that never fails to disappoint. Very easy listening with an always solid selection of "flashback" tracks, such as Chunk and Twist - Battery Life.

3. EPIC Radio - Eric Prydz: This would be #1 if it came out more often. The release schedule for Prydz' podcast is so haphazard that it's hard to give him the nod above Myon & Shane or A&B, who put out a consistently good weekly podcast. In terms of quality of music though, this easily beats out the other two.

Best Artist

1. Eric Prydz: Let's be honest here. His live set disappointed me somewhat and his podcast doesn't come out often enough, but for my money Eric is still the best musician in the industry right now. Every track he crafts is straight fire and doesn't lose any luster over repeated listens. This guy is most certainly EDM's MVP right now:

Best Set (online)

1. Eric Prydz - Essential Mix 2013: Nothing even comes close. This is far and away my most-played set of the entire year.

Saw Prydz twice last year and he was only ok, not great(though he has been amazing the previous years I saw him). But this Essential Mix was so damn good. Tons of Cirez D in the mix, lots of wicked techy stuff mixed in with his anthems. I must have listen to this mix 100 times last year.

I have found that the best music just comes to me now by adding my favorite producers and djs on soundcloud. Everyday new sets appear in my dashboard and it has changed how I listen to music for the past two years. Here is who I am following and each person has delivered some of the best sets or tracks in 2013.

One of the best sets for 2013 was by the Israeli duo Las Salinas who will probably be under the Anjunabeats label at some point. Eight hours of just amazing track after amazing track.
