EDM |OT| Future Flo-Rida Hits

I heard the Matthew Koma track yesterday and it reminded me that I haven't visited EDMGAF for sometime. But I see that track has already been discussed here - it really is trashy. But it is by no means a reason to abandon the genre! :p

ATB's latest album, Contact, is out now. I really like ATB and I love Jes especially as a vocalist. They did a song together for the album (and the only one I've heard thus far) called Together. It's very much a groove / downbeat kind of electronic track but I really like it's weird and (for ATB) unusually sombre production and melody.

Haven't heard the rest of the album yet, but it is on Spotify.
I love JES

So a little update about my plans for the year. Due to complications, it's gonna be tough to go to both EDC and Tomorrowworld.

That being said, I am currently discussing going to Tomorrowland.

Matthew Koma is a fantastic vocal but this song is pure trash. This is my problem with EDM now, and why I've started to drift away from it in the past 5 months or so. It's becoming such generic, copy cat crap. Pretty much every song follows the exact same formula.
I hate to continue to dogpile, but damn man. You just gotta expand your horizons a little. There's more fantastic EDM being produced now than at any other point in history. If you're not a fan of the mainstream electro-pop and house-pop stuff, there are TONS of other options, even in the house and electro genres. What is it in particular that you like about EDM? I'm sure I could find something that you would enjoy.

Also I don't know if you guys have heard of Solé Bicycles, but it's a bicycle company that his this monthly mixtape series where they invite guest artists to put together an hour-long mix. These are usually pretty laid back, summery mixes that are a fun listen. Check them out if you need something new to listen to.

If you didn't live in NYC I would recommend checking out Mysteryland which is the same weekend on the original Woodstock grounds (first festival since the original in 1969), but I guess in that case EDC probably makes more sense.

They're getting the owl stage this year in NY though so that's pretty sick

On a budget at the moment and tickets are $50, although Angry Man is coming along with Askew as well.

Aussie gigs and festivals are so overpriced.

But you're into EDM! You're not supposed to be sensible with how you spend your money on shows!

haha :p

I've actually been paying a lot more attention recently to how much I spend on shows, because I used to spend obscene amounts in the past. I try to keep each show I go to below $20-$30 if I can. I went to Markus Schulz at Pacha last night (he was doing an open-to-close set) and I was able to get tickets for $15 because I RSVP'ed online and showed up before midnight. You can get a bunch of tickets for cheap like that if you know where to look.

How was that? Me and my buddy almost came to NYC for that because he's a HUGE markus fan.

Yeah I can see it adding up a lot if you live in a city like NYC. Basically jack shit happens in central new york asides from a couple things here and there so I guess that's how I'm able to save up for festivals and what not.

Oh dude it was insane. I didn't actually go down to the dance floor because the dance floor at Pacha is a no man's land. But even hanging out on the mezzanine it was super energetic and the music was really good all the way through.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

WHYYYYYYY AM I NOT GOING TO TOMORROWLAND

WHY NOT THO YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE

Hahaha in all seriousness I'm trying to organize a bunch of cousins in my family to come but I have a feeling most if not all are gonna end up choking. Seeing as I know a couple friends from Montreal going I decided I'm gonna go no matter what. I'm not missing the 10th anniversary of Tomorrowland.

I'm probably skipping TomorrowWorld if I do.

Speaking of tickets...

One of Above & Beyond's make-up shows (they couldn't land in Seattle to headline the NYE event) sold out pretty much instantly. I managed to get tickets but some of my friends aren't so lucky. They're also checking the name on the credit card used to purchase the tickets to prevent scalping, so it'll be hard to get them on Craigslist or something.

There are a lot better festivals than Tomorrow Land, do not get caught in the hype of the 'after movie craze'.

Although maybe I just have that view because I hate big room and heavy house, which the majority of Tommorrow Land is.

Hideout on the other hand is more my taste...

Yeah, it's not overhyped. I went to Tomorrowworld and it completely blew away my expectations, and that was Tomorrowworld. Doesn't need to be said that Tomorrowland is even superior (at least for now, that could change).

But I can see if that's not your thing then it wouldn't appeal to you. I'm so hyped though

Really?

TomorrowLand has some of the best line ups in the world. Even if you hate big room electro pop house, there is a ton of variety. Tons of amazing techno/tech house/deep house DJ's on the 2013 roster.

Huh, so Porter Robinson announced his new album (link keeps hitting on the 6 hour mark sorry bout that)

10.00 hour loop video (first 30 seconds are cool) called Worlds

Gonna guess there are some hidden messages in there.

Most anticipated release bar Duck Sauce this year.

can't wait for that PR to drop. He's been hyping it up for a while.

Anyone been following Deorro? He kinda blew up towards the end of last year. I always appreciate the local SoCal talent
Anyway, his latest single release is on Avicii's label (Le7els). Deorro - Five Hours.
He says he got inspiration from Justice, Deadmau5, Daft Punk. check it
