Edmontonians... DON'T GO OUTSIDE. -40C

Jesus CHRIST it's cold! I'm sitting by my window in my condo 7 stories up, and it's frigid just being near it. It's windy as hell and fucking cold. -40C. And I have to walk for half an hour to work. Fuck sakes.

We had a -37C with windchill some time in December. I didn't realize it at the time, so I stepped outside with just a tshirt to throw something out. Needless to say, my entire body was so frozen after being outside there for like 3 seconds.

Even colder here!

FairbanksWeather-01-11-2005.gif

That's -43C, but luckily it's not windy. Today it's supposed to get up to a toasty -34F/-37C! I went out to Taco Bell today, and the poor guys working there had no heat! Everyone was bundled up in parkas, and it was so cold inside that their drive-thru headsets had stopped working. I guess it must have killed the battery or something :p

The forecast for tomorrow in Fargo, ND is for temperatures of -30º F (-34º C), with 40 mile an hour winds, making for windchills of about -70º F (-57º C). I fucking love it here.

I think it must be in the mid-60s here in Atlanta. For once I'm glad to have abnormal weather here.

God's Hand...no way to get a ride from someone?

Sorry, Don is currently frozen 5 feet in front of his door.

Fellow Edmontonian here...my car made it one block this morning before deciding it'd had enough. I think she is done for good. RIP 7M-GTE 1988-2005.

I refuse to check the forecast, because today is so nice. I'm sure it being cold in Alberta now has no repercussions for us Manitobans in the next few days.

Hahaha, I live in northern fucking Sweden and the snow is starting to melt here, in the middle if winter. We've had some pretty fucked weather here, didn't get snow until Dec 23, and that's unusual.

Another Edgemontonian here:

It was so bloody cold this morning on my way to work, when I finally got there I went to the bathroom and noticed I had a vagina.

Technically it's only -29 or so, which isn't bad, but the wind is killing us at the moment. That's what the rediculously frigid temperature can be attributed to.

Oiler fan huh. Exact same thing happened to one of my coworkers - he was talking some shit about the Oilers actually beating the Flames in a mid-season tilt last year and did some freaky Ranma 1/2 gender shifting right in front of me, it was pretty disturbing. He only turned back into a dude when Salo was traded and he was able to regain some pride. I wonder if seeing Rob Schremp nailed to the bench by a clueless USA coaching staff at the WJC made him relapse or anything... I haven't noticed him posting much. ;)

:lol

I'm only an Oilers fan because of proximity right now. I've always been a Jets fan, and a closet Rangers fan, depending on who is playing that night.

To be quite honest, I haven't followed NHL for the last couple of years, living in a mid-sized city. I was deprived of hockey due to work, but at least my work consisted of covering AJHL games for the local television station. Those were good times, and I'm starting to miss 'Barn Hockey' a little bit.

It's going to be bitter cold again pretty soon, though. Damn this Texas weather!

yeah, the highs are supposed to drop to the 40's or 50's here in a day or two.. Im sure that people up North would kill for that about now though :p

Of course, when its 115 in the summer with a heat index pushing it near 130 they will be laughing at us.

I've always been a Jets fan,

*embrace* I'm going to ignore the bit about the Rangers and welcome you to the fold! ;)

Mainline and I have it all figured out, the lockout lasts into December of next year, the CBA is much stiffer than what the league is offering now, it's not enough to make the franchises as valuable in real terms as they are on paper so a few get contracted and Mario decides to move to Winnipeg. The Pens become the Jets 2.0, we get Sidney Crosby when the Pens win the 30 team draft lottery and 3 or 4 years from now we're all chillin' in the MTS Centre watching Malkin and Crosby destroy the sadsack Avs by 9 goals.

I return the Flames to the second-tier level as my backup team to root for since I grew up there and fully cheer on the Jets to win the Northwest division. By 2009 I'm at Portage and Main with a hundred thousand delirious fans to see team captain Crosby, surrounded by GM John Paddock, head coach Teemu Selanne and owner Mario Lemieux, lift the Cup. Then Mario walks through the crowd bathed in pure light and hands out keys to brand new luxury sports cars to everyone and I get a Ford GT40. It's going to rock.

I have no problems moving to Winnipeg, or even taking a four month holiday just for that.

My Mom bought me a retro Jets jersey for Christmas this year. Bar none the best gift I recieved.

Yeah the weather can get a bit crazy. We had freezing rain last night, but the weather is going to hit a blustering 39 degrees today. Warm weather for this time in Wisconsin. But you think that would be great? Uh uh. While it is getting warmer, the snow is melting. And later in the afternoon it is supposed to start pouring like a mother fer. On top of that, it should be a thunderstorm too. It is going to be like 37-39 degrees and we are going to get an inch or two of rain in a thunderstorm. In January. So not only is it pouring, but the warming weather is going to melt the snow (Which reports say another inch or water could form from the melting snow), which means we are in a flood watch which starts at 5pm today until midday tommorow which may turn into a warning. I don't remember a winte being this crazy before. But, hey, it isn't cold here. Yet. Until Friday and Saturday when temps are supposed to be around 0 for the high. :(

60 degrees in Pittsburgh right now. It's been surprisingly warm since New Year's, but I guess after tomorrow, winter really starts. Reading this thread, though, I guess 20-30 degrees F isn't so bad.

Tenacious-V

Thinks his PR is better than yours.
It was brutal here in Winnipeg ney years eve, we got like 4 ft of snow over night. I must have pushed like 20 cars that day. We also had a few days of -50C and lower (with wind). Thank god took this semester off or I'd have to haul my ass to the University every day. Least now I can sit in my warm house all day.

hahahahahahahhahahahahahaha, I'm not sure what Ranma 1/2 is but still funny. I'm sure someone will flame me for not knowing what it is, but that's why I love the forums. The bit about the Jets return is so going to happen....man...just everyone wait, I know I haven't posted much, I'd be posting a lot more if there were some hockey threads. Also everyone stop being pussies its been over -40C atleast 10 times already this year here with the windchill, I was playing hockey outside last week when it was like -43, suck it up.

You people bitching about Winnipeg's weather, come visit Thompson and see how I have it. -40 is the normal wake up weather almost everyday for us here, although we have next to no windchill ever thanks to being surronded by forest. So really it doesnt feel that bad.

Man, I almost wish it was -40 C here. It's going to be 70 F tomorrow, and then the next day is supposed be 30 F. I'm sick of it, and would like it to be a typical winter. I want snow. I want to make a snow angel. I want to build a snowman. I want to go sledding. I want to see my breath.

I walk to school everyday. It takes about 35-40 mins. I tried this morning but it was way too cold. I had to take the bus instead. I hate Edmonton weather.

Are there *more* fucking edmontonians on here now, or did some of you just change your names since the last time there was a post about this icicle of a city?

Hey Winnipeg guys: I'm coming up there this weekend, are the roads decent? I can deal with the cold, miserable roads, not nearly as much. It's the new year, so can they plow yet? Please say yes.

Mama Smurf

My penis is still intact.
While I was at the office of the company who brought me over to Canada for the year (in Vancouver), there were some guys who'd just arrived and had apparently decided they'd make Edmonton their home because they "heard it had a good mall". I'm not sure they realised quite how cold it could get.

Guess they're dead by now.

As of right now every single street is extremely slippery, I don't even want to know what it's like outside of the city. Everything is plowed, but todays snow just added a nice layer of ice to the roads. Unless you are talking about the actual physical condition of the roads, in that case they are as terrible as ever.

That sounds fucking fantastic! Although the last time I was up there, the roads were actually nicer on Highway 75 heading back to the States than they were in the city limits. In the city it was fucking horrible, once I got out of the city, it wasn't bad at all. At least I'm heading up early in the afternoon....

Maybe they died when sewage flooded the waterpark in that good mall.

Incase anyone cares, and to the dismay of some, I survived my 30 minute trek to work.

Us Edmontonians should get together and play DS or something gay like that. Or go to Kingsway Garden Mall and say "HI WHIPPIN SEAN" to my brother at New York Fries. You can't miss him; he's the only tall white guy there.

Wow. I don't think it's ever been below 9C during the day here. (Adelaide, Australia)

It was 41C the other day.

I "lived" in North Dakota for 6 years. Worst hell-hole I've ever been in. The whole time there, I couldn't help thinking that there was a country even further north than I was.

Dude, do yourself a favor. Move!

Best place I ever lived was Phoenix, AZ. No matter what day of the year it is, you can walk out your front door in bare feet.

Wherebouts did you live? I've lived here going on 23 years, since the day I was born. I fucking hate it, and I will move as soon as I'm done with school.

Oh Edmonton! How I miss thee. -40 is nothing. Edmonton hit -50 with winds last year, for a fricking week.

I'd take -40 for what we have in Toronto. I woke up today to discover that the sidewalks had literally turned into ICE. Had to walk in slow motion to my busstop this morning - many people falling, some injuring themselves. Of course, things warmed up in the evening and it was raining on my way home: there was lightning. Thunderstorm in January - WTF?!?!
I jumped over a patch of ice only to land in a 10cm puddle of water. Had to walk home with wet socks, wet pants, and rain in my face...all the while avoiding the icy spots.

It's gonna be +15 tomorrow..then it's gonna freeze up on Friday. That should be fun.
TORONTO WEATHER IS BROKEN.

Yeah, its fucking miserable outside, I'm glad I have resident evil 4 to keep me company. Also, smashing ones finger at work helps too, I'm supposed to take some time off according to the doctor but I've been working anyway.... :p

I just got back from Sri Lanka tonight. Real nice and easy weather there this time of year, around 25 to 30 celcius.

Then I get off my plane and I'm almost knocked over, holy crap it's cold. Now I remember what I was trying to get away from :lol

I couldn't feel my face after only walking 5 minutes in the cold from class to class today. This sucks, hopefully it warms up here pretty quick.
