"Still, we're worried that its slightly kiddie art style might damage Kameo's mainstream appeal." -Christian Nutt, found page 98 lastest issue

God damn, I so sick this crap! One game that actually somewhat appealing to me for 360 launch window. Why is it that any game that takes a more creative approach, going iconic/eastern over photorealism/western/violent and bleak is automaticly just a lame game for kids? Christ it was bad enough when I thought those that grew up with ps1 and must be only about 14 called games that were not PR/western, "gay and kiddie" on forums. Now we have press doing it?
Is this really how most feel? I guess I was only one enjoying gaming last twenty or so years, you know mario, sonic, gunstar, landstalker, FF up to 6, etc, etc. Rest just played but thought boy are this kiddie games, I guess I just suffer thru them until they become photo realistic and gory!

I guess I should not even ask given some of biggest threads and salvating here are Killzone 2, Gears Of War and such. Has gaming changed so much that we cant enjoy both? That Halos sell 5 million and iconic sell 50k? That even one out of ten games that actually goes the iconic route cant get negative press by being called kiddie? This attitude just keeps get worse and worse, it makes we wonder if in few years if there will even be these types of artistic games anymore. /Rant over, I feel somewhat better :)

If a game like Kameo has a chance, it's at launch, if they get it ready for launch, looks like they will, and it looks as pretty as it did at E3, they shouldn't have any problems moving it.

It could be one of those where the sequel bombs though.

You can transform into an Armadillo with spikes on his shell and run over baddies impaling them upon your spikes. Similarly, you can transform into this Chilla beast guy and throw enemies up into the air and impale them on the spikes on your back, then pull them off and throw them at other baddies. So, the image is almost a facade

Games with a more youthfull appearence should still have their place in the market. Hopefully though, they will have to be the highest quality so the Rare's and Nintendo's out there will have to view themselves as the Pixar's of the gaming industry.

Yes, but does Kameo have sex in the game?

Dude, you need to edit your stuff before you post.

Actually I edited and proread it at least 15 times before posted it(This one I will not). Perhaps you can be my editor? hehe. Blasted MS gets in way my communication, sorry if hard to read.

I guess I'm minority and this is how most gamers feel. Dont give me that they only said "slighty" crap, you damn well know that was touch of death calling a game kiddie with wannabe younglings thinking they are cool playing GTA and such. Perhaps it time for me retire from gaming if this future or current state. Funny my penis never fell off playing Wind Waker, I guess I got defective copy :lol

I think the quote's talking less about the art style being too kiddy and more about how the mainstream audience will find it unappealing. If I say using purple as the Gamecube's primary launch colour was a bad marketing decision because it makes the system appear "slightly kiddie", potentially scaring off the mainstream audience, will you flip out at me?

I think he's concerned a good game receive its dues because it's "slightly kiddie". It doesn't come off to me like he was trying to slight the game in any way, just point out that its style may prevent it from achieivng widespread appeal.

Christian Nutt. 'nuff said.

i thought it was trying to appeal to teenage girls.

err well now that i think about it, it is kiddie :lol

Whoa whoa whoa. Whoa. Ease back there.

Just general FYI, the Kameo Rare producer himself made it sound like the game might be aimed at the younger set--talking about it 'expanding the demographic' of the XBox and being for all ages; maybe he was just saying 'younger than the average Halo-playing xbox owner', but I remember those two phrases used previously by MS in PR for (dum dum daa) Grabbed by the Ghoulies....

And besides, saying a game -may- have a more limited audience because of its art style isn't saying it's going to be 'a lame kiddie game'--I would say the same thing about Wind Waker and Okami; the former sold very well (though not as well as realistic Zelda I'd wager) and the other I'm very excited about. (basically, what opinionated cyborg said :)

I didn't want to start a new thread, but I watched a GameTrailers video on Kameo and it looks pretty damn hot. At the end of the second trailer on the game whoever was talking about it spilled the beans on CO-OP mode in Kameo!!!! So Mark spill the beans some more CO-OP on live with Kameo? :D With the different monsters you transfer into CO-OP could yield some cool results! :)

The game IS kiddy! It's fairy tales and cartoons. I mean come-on do you have to see pictures to know that? What's it got to do with ANYTHING though?

Why is the assumption that kiddy = lame?

(Not that I'm really interested in Kameo one way or the other, just asking in general)

Damn, did he even see the art prior to the post-MS-acquisition makeover? not that's it's "mature", but it certainly isn't worse off than say, BG&E.
