Elder Scrolls IV Screens & Video (Eventually)

As flawed of a game as Morrowind was, I still played through several times....

Yeah, I'm Bethesda's bitch for Oblivion.

I couldn't really play Morrowind for more than a few minutes, it just... bored the hell out of me. But this, with its visuals and improvements, I'm sure I'd like it a lot more.

I hope so, for you. Try to play again Morrowind (get some good component cables if you do not have them, you will thank me later as they help Morrowind a lot IMHO) and try to pay attention to the story, to the detail of the world, try to immerse yourself in the game, give the game at least a few hours for each play-time (maybe even only one hour each time)... the game is deeper than you imagine and although the graphics and NPC's interactivity gets better with Oblivion if you are really not compatible with the core of the Morrowind atmosphere than instead of boring you after a few minutes it might take 15-30 minutes to do the same after the wow-factor of the graphics tones itself down.

How about more people use Bittorent for this video and take the limit off the upload speed ?

Come on let's help each other and reduce Blim's costs :).

Woha, 246 leechers on that torrent currently. Not bad.
I'll add a second high speed seed.
Edit: Done, already uploading 720 KB/s :)

I definitely agree with everything in that post. I didn't say I disliked Morrowind, but just something about it bored me. I'm not one of these people to label a game "bad" just because I personally couldn't get into it. But what I'm seeing in these videos most definitely seems more appealing to me. I kind of saw a reply like that coming - since I mentioned the fact that I might like this more because of the visuals - well, that has a bit less truth to it. I think better visuals would push me to keep playing just to check out all the environments, but no, it doesn't really help the core gameplay.

And I would retry Morrowind, but I just sold it and a bunch of other stuff. :p

I luv you Blim! <3

The video rocks and now makes this game my most anticipated game for the XBox 360. This is what a next-gen RPG should look like. The only complaints I have is that some of the character modelling and character animations seem a bit awkward. Nothing too bad though, and the lighting and detail in the environments is awesome. Cannot wait to see the newer build (hopefully) at X05 and see the improvements Bethesda has made on the game.

A very good PC, but like with morrowind i'm sure my current pc will get the job done if i turn some settings down.

The PC version should be the one to get if the mod tools are as good as they were with morrowind. I think people are going to be very into modding this game.

Something tells me you will be able to buy modded content approved by Bethesda from the Xbox LIVE MarketPlace ;).

I finally got to see this late last night and i was amazed.

A few things occured to me though... i wonder if the radiant AI will always be as awesome as that sequence with the woman at the end of the video... That seemed a bit pre-scripted.. on the other hand, seeing as the game has 50+ hours of dialogue, i suppose that each character might have several unique comments for different AI actions. If they do, it wil be cool just to meet people and follow them around, trying to see what they might do or say.

As others have said, the animations are a bit off.. This is elder scrolls, so i'm not expecting disney, but hopefully they can improve it a bit before release... ditto on the framerate. I guess it's possible they've fixed these things considering how old this footage is. Neither of those things would really hurt the game that much IMO, but it seems it could be nicer.

The most amazing part was the physics, graphics, and the overal feel of the gameplay and art. Those dungeons look 100x better artisticly than anything in morrowind, and i love the music. The forest was awe inspiring, the city looked huge. I love the mechanic of listening in on conversations to find quests. I like the traps in the dungeons. I like the way the physics play into the combat, with the skeletons being hurled around by your sword strikes... The stealth gameplay looks like a big improvement. there is a hell of a lot to like in this footage. This looks like a AAA rpg paradise. It will probably the best game on 360 for a long time after it's release.

That video has almost sold me for certain on buying a 360, just to play this game.

Darn speed went down again... (BTW, yes I am using the ABC client).
Very strange. If you have a jdk installed, try Azureus. It's much better than ABC but since it requires a JDK I don't recommend it on xboxyde.

This game is the main reason for my 360 reservation.

But I will import it from UK (my German is not good enough :) )

Well, based on cursor motion, I'd say they were showing us the PC version...which can have a variable framerate depending on hardware. We don't know how well it will run on 360.

Im taking off 2 weeks from work for the 360 launch so I can lock myself indoors and get lost in Oblivion. Its going to be hard devoting time to my other launch games. Oh well.

Not to mention that they were capturing video while playing the game. I'm not too worried about framerate on the 360.

I remeber at one point my character was too strong for the main quest and i was cutting through everything too easy. I was going to start my game over, but then i found a nice difficulty increase mod and i wasn't so invincible, but still got to use all the cool items and spells to thier fullest.

If the combat is solid and you have these great visuals i'm sure people are going to want to mod this thing like crazy. I expect at least one mod where the world is more recent and you have guns and modern items.

Morrowind had some major problems and people modded that thing like crazy.

We do, Bethesda said that the Xb0x 360 version will be the one running at peak frame-rate and peak graphical effects.

Certainly you're not suggesting they'll steal user created content and sell it on Live?

Any Oblivion content on Live is going to be official Bethesda stuff. So inevitably when people make better looking models and animation 360 users will be out of luck.

I've been using azureus on cable modem. I'm at average 450kb down / 40 kb up.

i'm thinking they might make it available for free... a pc user could submit a mod for approval at bethesda, and they could test it and then release it for the 360 as a free download. According to what i've read, the mods would work just fine on the xbox version. it just depends on whether or not they decide to distribute them. Also, just because you can charge for content downloads on xbox live, does not mean every company will do so.

Anyway, it's probably a pipe dream, but i am still holding out hope for user created content from the pc version, playable on the 360 version. I know for certain that my current PC can't handle the game, and i'm not buying a new one any time soon (plus i hate playing games on pc's now)

Wow, I found Morrowind, Daggerfall, et al. to be mostly crap, but this looks too stunning not to pass up.

MMmm...why did I not look at this earlier. Looks like it will be stunning when released on the X360. Never played Morrowind, didn't like the look of it. But this looks too immersive to pass by (I just want to go exploring in that forest).

So now there is PGR3, GR:AW, PDZ, Kameo and Oblivion that look like must buys from day one (or the first day they are available). My list keeps growing, I wonder what's next? Great stuff, this past week or two has started to make me feel REALLY good about my X360 pre-order.

As I stated earlier, the main reason that would provoke me to stop playing Morrowind was that blasted journal system which didn't keep any accurate records of what quests you were on or where you needed to go and what exactly you needed to perform.

Fortunately I saw at least a demo quest-log at the E3 demo showing and it looked fine which is why I'm not too worried about that problem anymore.

Now the thing is will I need to buy a newer computer to enjoy this game since I need the PC version to get the TES construction set and test out my design skills with something other than the Unreal engine.

Holy fucking shit, that was amazing! From the AI to the physics to the voice acting to the score to the combat system to the quests, everything looked top-notch. And, the forests are unbelievably beautiful. I cannot wait to see them on my 52 in. HDTV. Please, please, please, please, please, make launch!

U know whats funnny i was reading on the Elder Scrolls forum and apparently there is still no word from bethesda that IGN posted that video legally.. coudl be trouble for them,, i think they did this once before with some raw footage from the game and they had to remove that too so check it out while u can.

Just wanted to say that the movie is simply astounding...it was the same feeling I got from watching the first Half-life 2 movie. Every little detail and function in the game...the freedom...and the graphics...I'm really impressed...been a long time since I've been this impressed with a game. But I played and loved Morrowind so I'm aware of the extreme, extreme scope of this game...maybe that's why I'm so impressed. :)
If they pull it off so everything actually WORKS as showed in this movie, it will be an amazing game. Only problems I saw were framerate and animation, but hopefully those two aspects will be polished before release. Hell, I don't even care if they just make everything work. :D

When two NPCs talk to each other, is it difficult to make them stop talking and scream "this is none of your business" when the player gets so close to them he can almost put a finger in their noses? This is a serious question. It really pulls me out of the immersion since it seems the game is not taking me into consideration in that particular case.

Cant it be programmed so that you can still hear them (albeit less loudly) but only from the distance?

Other than that, I'm impressed by the forest and physics, but not by the character animation, the frame rate and visual FXs like fire.

Edited for clarity

There's a radius on it. You can be further away from them and still overhear their conversation without being right up in their faces.

Of course, but my question was: why do they allow me to come so close to them? Wouldnt it add so much more to the their credibility (and to the credibility of the whole game world) if they just stop talking asking me to step back? It makes me feel like a virtual camera rather than a virtual person.

Why would they? It wasn't a private conversation. After that, the character immediately requested your aid in the situation they were talking about.

I'm sure some npcs will be more stand-offish than others. Some could care less that you are there, and some might take offense ::shrug::

if you listen to what they say about the NPCs, it is all based on your character

if you are a jackass to everyone and have a bad rep they will give you the diss

if you are a hero and kiss babies and save small puppies they will wan to hump you

dont just watch the vid listen to it as well :)

True, but, well, that's not how it actually works in the real life does it? I mean, you get at least suspicious when someone comes so close to you while you are having a (whatever kind of) conversation with someone. I dunno, it just feels so artificial it destroys the suspention of disbelief albeit the realistic graphics of it all. At least with me.

Ah! That's cool. Thanks. Didn't pay attention to that part. Well, they should at least salute the hero when he pops up like that tho :P

true but he probably just had a medium level.. not hated yet not loved much like myself :(

just wanted to add some praise for a nice little touch i noticed in the video... it's one of those little presentation things that you don't notice so much conciously. i like the way the camera zooms in tight on the face of someone you are conversing with. there is a nice speed to it, and it makes the conversations seem more intimate, plus it lets you notice the small details of the faces on the models.. i also like the way the cursor seems to change when you hold it over something depending on what actions are available... it's not anything new, but it looks nice and subtle.

Good stuff. My local EB said that Oblivion is the their top ordered XBox360 game. Bethesda looks as if their trying to keep the fans happy as well. Oh my god, this holiday season is going to be fantastic!.

Looks pretty great, but then again I still think Morrowind looks great (save for some of the character models/animation). Will this be coming out for the PC like Morrowind? I don't want to have to but a 360 just for this game, but I will if I have to - I enjoyed Morrowind just that much.
