LAS VEGAS -- Electronic Arts and Vivendi Universal Games, both major game software makers, are due to announce their support for the Blu-ray Disc optical disc format.

The two companies are scheduled to make the announcement on Thursday afternoon at the International Consumer Electronics Show here, according to Blu-ray Disc Association member-company sources who did not wish to be named.

there's no details, no specifics, its not confirmed, and has no real source.

if its true, and its exclusive support for blu-ray, thats a huge blow to hddvd.

It's still strange to me that just after DVD becomes common-place in homes we're ready to jump onto the next generation DVD format.

Game makers announcing support for a physical media format doesn't really mean much. If Xbox2 is HDDVD and PS3 is BRD, its not like this means they won't be making games for Xbox2...

Of course this is only for PC games isn't it?

Yep.

1) This only applies to PC games. For consoles they'll use whatever the hardware requires regardless of HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray

2) For PC's, DVD's will continue to be used for a LONG time, so they'd just add more DVD's. Hell, there are still games on CD, of course.

3) Publishers almost certainly won't publish on 3 seperate formats, (DVD, Blu-Ray, & HD-DVD). It's a matter of trying to publish all those skus and take a chance on that many seperate formats with respect to inventory. It just won't happen unless they have absolutely no choice.

I was gonna say, surely they arent gonna move any quicker to blu-ray than they have done to DVD.
