Trash tier Sci Fi. I curse the gaffers that told me I should watch it after bathing in the excellence of Babylon 5 and Stargate SG-1.
The hell were they thinking. Best thing Farscape produced was a few lame references to it in the late seasons of SG-1 and the episode about the 'Food Squares' (crackers).
I suppose you can't sympathize with non-humans then (I can, but I know others don't)? The good thing about Farscape in my opinion is that it presents a complex world in which humans are neither required, nor invited. The dynamic is very different and for once we're asked to not cheer for the human in the room, because he's a total dick. And unlike Andromeda or Stargate Universe, the ship and its pilot are not on 'team hijackers' by default either.
If you can't look past 'no budget' you would also not enjoy most other notable SF either, I would think. And competing with B5 is kind of unfair because JMS wrote all that shit and was thereby capable of making a very tight story for his world and characters. It's a fluke. BSG had the great benefit of good actors, a highly developed franchise to work with (all you need to do is improve on someone else's work and not fuck up), and the show runner having some naval background, as well as an excellent soundtrack. Considering Helix and the seasons of Star Trek TNG from season 3 onwards I am going to say to BSG was a fluke too.
I am not trying to devalue people's work here btw, but I always accept that there is a great margin of error between 'what the show should / could be' and 'what we can actually do', particularly in science fiction where expensive sets and effects tend to be mandatory. Though I do sense that Farscape may be a bit of an acquired taste.
