Lost me during the second season, but I really enjoyed the first. I saw the later seasons before them (including peacekeeper wars). The number of episodes per really did the show in as the self-contained plots could be hit or miss. And yeah, I also disliked Harvey.

It's still awesome.

Still salty about Sci Fi cancelling it. The Peacekeeper Wars was good, but I can't help but think how awesome a 5th season would have been.

Someone with some time on their hands really ought to make a streamlined episode guide for new viewers, that allows them to skip all the early episodes that are completely inconsequential and jump right into the important continuity-based episodes. Max Tempkin's guide to Star Trek really made more more enthusiastic to try the show out.

I'll bet that beyond the Pilot and Chiana's introduction, you could probably skip almost all of Season 1 until Scorpius shows up.

goofy as hell, but i can't help but like it. i forget what season i stopped, but i don't like the guy with the metal on his face or the ginger alien lady though. I like that it's premise is that drunk american astronaut goes and hangs out with bizarre australian aliens. For some reason, i really like the thing where the main character is from "real life" and makes a buncha pop culture references that only he understands.

I have caught bits and pieces of it over the years on Space (syfy now?) but never enough to really makes heads or tails of what was going on. I remember it was one of the shows with some of the more interesting and colorful alien species. I've haven't seen enough to form an opinion on it.

Show is incredibly inaccessible. If you can break through that there are some good moments.

Yup, the show pretty much kicks off with the attitude of "We started without you, pay attention and hang the fuck on", and never really stops.

God help anyone trying to get into it without starting at the beginning.

Didn't really catch it as it was shown on BBC2 (I think?) in the early days. It was only much later when there was a Scifi channel marathon that I got into it, just as the save Farscape campaign was kicking in. I have really fond memories of it and it's up there with Babylon 5 as one of my favourite scifi shows. That said, I know the early going can be difficult to get through because the people I've introduced it to in recent years have all said the same sorts of things.

It's one of those situations where I'm not sure if I want to go back, maybe just preserve it in my memories. I will probably check out the comics though, eventually.

I love Farscape. I do agree that season 1 is really hard to get through. It has some good episodes and some tough to get through episodes. But S2+ is just fantastic.

I think it's the season 2 finale that had me super hyped up. That episode was just great.

Started rewatching the series a couple months back. I need to get back to that.

Lost my way in season 2. I think I dropped it around the 'space hippies jumping to their deaths' episode. And now I can't countenance going back and trying to get into it again. Show wasn't for me.

Edit: I made a thread on this show a while back.

Watched it for the first time last year. The first season is so-so but it really picks up once Chiana joins the cast. To me it feels like one of the few sci-fi shows to evoke the old pulp era of science fiction while still feeling forward looking instead of a nostalgic throwback. Great show.

Trash tier Sci Fi. I curse the gaffers that told me I should watch it after bathing in the excellence of Babylon 5 and Stargate SG-1.

The hell were they thinking. Best thing Farscape produced was a few lame references to it in the late seasons of SG-1 and the episode about the 'Food Squares' (crackers).

I suppose you can't sympathize with non-humans then (I can, but I know others don't)? The good thing about Farscape in my opinion is that it presents a complex world in which humans are neither required, nor invited. The dynamic is very different and for once we're asked to not cheer for the human in the room, because he's a total dick. And unlike Andromeda or Stargate Universe, the ship and its pilot are not on 'team hijackers' by default either.

If you can't look past 'no budget' you would also not enjoy most other notable SF either, I would think. And competing with B5 is kind of unfair because JMS wrote all that shit and was thereby capable of making a very tight story for his world and characters. It's a fluke. BSG had the great benefit of good actors, a highly developed franchise to work with (all you need to do is improve on someone else's work and not fuck up), and the show runner having some naval background, as well as an excellent soundtrack. Considering Helix and the seasons of Star Trek TNG from season 3 onwards I am going to say to BSG was a fluke too.
I am not trying to devalue people's work here btw, but I always accept that there is a great margin of error between 'what the show should / could be' and 'what we can actually do', particularly in science fiction where expensive sets and effects tend to be mandatory. Though I do sense that Farscape may be a bit of an acquired taste.

Watched up to S3 a few years ago but, never paid any attention. Decided to rewatch, and holy fucking shit it's awesome. I'm 50% done with S4 and it's better then DS9 ever frelling was.

Also lol at "no budget". Dude, farscape looks fucking amazing. It beats the pants off anything I've seen in any scifi show. Jim Henson is a fucking god.
