One more historical nugget:

Name the team that went 11-5, won three road playoff games on the way to the Super Bowl energizing their fan base with dreams of upset, and then faced a team many considered a unbeatable juggernaut.

Answer:
1985 Patriots

We can throw out historical nuggets all day, but you're right, those two shutouts the Patriots dished out in the playoffs this year were clear domination. Giants have no chance.

Oh wait...

No one said they have no chance, I'm just pointing out the other side of the coin. There is an overwhelming amount of pro-Giants sentiment here and innumerable reasons given that they can and will pull the upset. But there are tons of reasons on the other side that suggest that they won't. I expect the game to be close because the Patriots have a history of not blowing people out in the playoffs, but I just think people get carried away inflating how good teams are. For every 01 Pats team, there are three or four teams like the 85 Pats, 94 Chargers, and the 2000 Giants. Who knows though, if the Giants win, it'll be a great victory and I'll give them all credit for it.

In any case, GO GIANTS!
I would love to go against those chumps. Oh well.

That said, I am somewhat sorry I started this already. :lol

Giants - 31
Patriots - 27

I... I believe.

Well I think in the jaguars game the pats offense looked better than ever, the defense is what liked. Fast forward a week the defense looks unbelievable, but the cold weather held the offense back from flourishing like it normally would. One thing you can count on is some warm weather for the SB. Another thing to point out is comin off the bye week the pats play their best football.

I think for the last game against the giants the pats felt the pressure of 16-0, also Brady and Moss no matter what they say were feeling the pressure of the single season TD records. Pats perform really well in the superbowl they've been there 3 times. I just would love to see moss get his ring, and seau finally getting one would be great.

Patriots didn't get the benefit of playing in 40+ mph winds and getting a gift touchdown when the opposing punter whiffed on a punt in the divisional game, or of facing a team led by Dieter Brock at QB in the championship game. That Bears team was great but the level of opposition that the Patriots have faced so far makes their run more impressive.

as a Giants - Mets fan, born and raised in Queens, I would like to state for the record that I want to murder the OP for linking to the Yankees.

I may be an ignorant Canadian but the perception, at least here, is that the majority of Yankee fans are Giants fans and the majority of Mets fans are Jets fans.

This guy an oddity?

Jets - Mets - Nets?

Or have I been lied to?

Welcome to Queens, New York - home of the non-stereotype.

Yeah I always thought it was Giants / Yanks, Jets / Mets but then I came to GAF where by-and-by there's no way of drawing a consensus.

I may be wrong but didn't the Giants used to play some games in Yankee stadium and the Mets played some at Shea?

yeah, my way of thinking when i was younger was - both of these teams wear blue! how much easier could it get? also, i was six when both the Mets and the Giants decimated the sad saps of their respective leagues, which had a lasting impact on my allegiances.

Queens is the no-man zone the other boroughites dare cross. closer to the Manhattan side of the borough and the makeup is more evenly split between Giants/Jets fans, but the farther one strays east and towards Long Island it becomes Green Country.

Has this not been posted yet?

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/rumors/post/Walking-wounded-Brady-spotted-in-cast?urn=nfl,62907
Fans of the New England Patriots had to be swallowing hard Monday when pictures of quarterback Tom Brady sporting a walking cast on his right foot surfaced.

A video taken of Brady in New York Sunday, which is available on TMZ.com, shows the NFL's MVP returning to girlfriend Gisele Bundchen's apartment. He's walking gingerly on the sidewalk after emerging from a black SUV parked on the street.

Damn, I saw there was no thread, so I was working on an ironic post and a drawing for the OP...now what am I gonna do with an unfinished drawing of a giant Brandon Jacobs pwning Boston Harbor and some miniature Pats?

*changes the colors to match Lamont Jordan*
*realizes Jordan is probably gone*
*changes it to Bush*

I'll post it next season!

This year's? Beating a Jags team, and an LT-less, one-legged Rivers while throwing 3 int's? How is that impressive? Given the whiffed punt, the '85 Bears still shutout the Giants and crushed the Pats in the Super Bowl. That was an impressive run regardless.

:lol :lol Oh goodness don't remind us... I'm terrified that idiot Snyder is looking for another coach... I just know he's looking for a big name to sell tickets.

what did he say now?

Also, that last game of the regular season was great, both teams played with a great amount of effort. But it is not a good indicator of how they match up. Neither team went all out scheme wise or play calling wise until maybe parts of the second half. Hopefully it will still be a good game, but I doubt it will play out all that similar.

He was on Mike and Mike talking about how the Patriots still aren't all that good, they haven't proven anything yet, they can still lose. He said that they'll still be the best team ever but he would welcome the Patriots as second or third best team if they win.

He's a freaking jackass, on top of being insane and pathetic.

Is your memory really that bad? Jags and Chargers were considered to be the hottest teams in the league going into their games with the Patriots. Rivers' injury didn't have too much of an effect on his performance and LT's backups are both excellent players, the Patriots just stepped up and made huge plays on defense when they needed them and their offense dominated possesion of the ball in the fourth quarter. The Bears defense in the NFC playoffs in 85 was helped out tremendously by the weather and that Rams team they faced in the Championship game was a serious pretender who had faded down the stretch after a hot start.

I agree. They haven't lost a game yet and beat 6 playoff teams SD twice. Pats obviously suck and they are lucky to be in this position...........

not to mention that the AFC this year was fucking atrocious.

Indy, Pats, Tenn, Pitt, SD, Jag < Dallas, NY, Tampa, Seattle, GB, Wash

Riiiight

I won't be around to post during the game, but I do want to throw my support to the Giants. This shit with the Patriots has to be stopped at all costs.

Of course I can't say I'm that upset or surprised at the season New England's having. You could see this coming back in April of last year.

Pop quiz...What's do two of the greatest offenses of all time '98 Vikings and '07 Pats have in common?
Da BAWWWSSSS

Yeah the Pats have faded in the 2nd half of the season. They still won, but they didn't really dominate anyone except for Anthony Smith.

Game is simple. Get in Brady's face and don't fall for the Pats trick plays (they always seem to have the best playcalling). Brady played like shit in SD with pressure in his face.

Jags got minimal pressure on Tommy and he ripped them apart with the short stuff.

Eli also has to avoid the stupid INT. And for the love of God the Giants need to stick with the running game and have a good playcalling game offensively.

I would say it is probablyt 75-80% of the people who are Mets fans are also Jets fans, since they used to play in the same stadium and were good at the same time (late 60s). But that still leaves a good 20-25% who go Mets/Giants and Jets/Yankees. Also, generally Jets-Mets fans are also Islanders fans (the LI connection I suppose) and Giants-Yanks fans are Rangers fans.

To be honest no one in NY roots for the Nets or Devils.

Also, wear some metal shin guards or something for asshole leg whippers like Vrabel. Would love to see him break a shin pulling that shit.

Well that will change when the Nets move to Brooklyn, and if the Knicks continue their losing ways with Dolan at the helm, I'll probably be at the front of the line.

Great headline on today's NY Post. :lol
