With those type of missions they expect you to source the food yourself and take it to the target. It'll cost you some credits but depending on the mission type they may reimburse you.

To find where sells food (without using an external tool like a trading website or the BPC or whatever) go to the Galaxy Map, select the View tab and go to the trade routes section. Disable everything except the type of item you've been asked for, and then you'll see glowing arcs with moving blobs along them showing the direction of import/export. Just go to a system the blobs are moving away from and you'll be able to get your food there.

Thanks for the tip, I have to admit I googled "fruits and vegetables" and came across a website that shows nearest stations to whatever system you enter.

I've been traveling 20+ lightyears to get two cargospace worth of fruit and had to refuel two times, this better be worth it haha.

Is there some "early game" area I should be going? You know, like MMOs have a typical starter area to learn the ropes of the game.

Looking at the bright side, that way you'll get to see Sol after patch 1.1, so it will look even better.

All of the sudden, I received three Navy missions in a row. It was like there was a clog. I have my SOL pass now but maybe I should wait for the graphical touch up anyway.

Is there any benefit at all to fixed weapons? I would have thought that they do more damage but the weapon stats look the same or worse across the board for beam lasers.

This is kind of a crazy system. So a random NPC can crash into you, and your insurance has to pay for it, not theirs? I get that it might be hard to determine "fault" in a case like this, but seems a bit unfair to penalize a player for bad AI.

Sounds like a realism simulator to me.

I just want to say I have had this game almost a week and I am absolutely in love with it.

This is pretty much the dream game I have always wanted, and will become even more so with it's expansions in the future. The level of detail, polish, performance, and everything in this game is astounding. Even the fact that everything is player driven makes it so incredibly interesting, and even the predefined factions change the galaxy all the time. It's just so damn cool

They deal more damage (note that a size 1 fixed multicannon is class E vs class F for gimballed) plus can't be thrown off with chaff like gimballed or turrets can.

Just stay out of systems with no government (anarchy) maybe? You can find this information in the System Map - when you go to select the system in the Galaxy Map, I think it's like the third button along.

If you're getting grief from other players, when you start the game select Solo Mode. It's exactly the same, and your progression is shared between the two modes, but you'll only encounter NPCs.

Mostly that, but also they use less energy and cost less money. Basically they're fantastic for agile ships.

Strangely, I have only been playing a week and yet to get ANY hostility from other players. Seen them plenty of times but none have ever been hostile toward me.

Is there any word from the devs about improving the non-trading methods of making money? I have no problem with efficient trade routes being the most lucrative way of spending your time in game but the difference is enormous and the ship prices seem balanced against trading. I can't imagine strictly sticking to bounty hunting and buying much beyond an ASP. The pay simply doesn't scale up with better equipment at the rate that trading does. In fact, a bad encounter with my ASP while bounty hunting, I'm not talking about ship destruction, just taking say 40% hull damage, can nullify a huge chunk of time due to repair costs. I could get most of the same bounties, with a little more effort but with less potential cost with a well equipped Viper or Cobra.

I know I'm not bringing up anything new but yesterday I made a big stupid mistake bounty hunting, completely my fault, that didn't only cost me all of the bounty I was carrying at the time but also probably all the profit I ever made bounty hunting. My ASP was at 50% hull and my shields were down but I continued to face off with an Anaconda that was on the verge of destruction. It must have destroyed my power plant or something because with 50% hull, I just exploded. To be fair that was about 2 million total but I went back to trading and my losses were recovered in an hour and a half and that was with a simple bi-directional trade route, no carefully crafted trade route or exploitable seeking luxury scheme. I find myself spending, by far, the least amount of time doing what I enjoy the most because I can't seem to make it a viable source of income.

That all being said, I'm hopelessly addicted to the game, even if I spend 95% of my time trading. The feeling of piloting a spacecraft around the galaxy is just too good.

Man, what kind of ship do I need to do that stupid Federal Dropship mission? I bought a Cobra and fitted it with gimballed beam lasers, but still got my ass kicked.

Upgrades, man. I've taken out several Dropships with my Cobra. Get better shields, more power, better distributor, a shield cell bank, and stop relying solely on lasers... those are only good for knocking out their shields, switch to guns to take down the hull. I've got Class 1 gimballed burst lasers for shields, and Class 2 gimballed multicannons for hull.

I did that mission in my Viper with Class 2 fixed Pulse Lasers, and Class 2 Gimballed Multicannons and that's about it. Nothing fancy. Got a little dicey near the end when my shields dropped because I was dumb and flew right at him a few times exchanging fire, and near the end of the fight the security forces showed up. But it wasn't too bad.

Actually was streaming during that fight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tocaFDe6BqQ

As mentioned, any ship can do it. Most important equipment is a chaff launcher to confuse his guns and shield cell banks to top up your shields.

Also, is anyone getting booted out with "adjudication server" errors at the moment? I'm trying to log in but when I try and go to supercruise that's all I get.

Wait, are gimballed weapons usually prefferable to fixed? Do I have that right?

Also is there a guide to effectively using flight assist off?

I like gimballed for my kinectic weapons and fixed for my lasers. I had gimballed lasers and hated it because if your target pops chaff or isn't at the right angle you can't get a lock on them, meanwhile you could be lighting them up if you had fixed.

Picked up an xbox 360 controller this weekend just for this game. Got sick of trading so pottered off in my sidewinder with upgraded power plant and guns and had a fun time killing npc's at resource extraction sites. Think I made more money this way then the routes I was using. The nice thing atm about the sidewinder is that it's so cheap it won't matter when I eventually go boom in it.

Gimballed weapons do less damage, but IMO, it's offset by the vastly increased number of hits. Effective DPS goes up substantially with gimballed weapons, at least for me.

As for FA off, just practice practice practice. Which I haven't done, either.. hehe.

Thanks!

And yeah I guess I'll switch to using gimballed kinetics, those are quite a bit harder to hit with.

Time to watch these videos. I've got the hang of *flying* with flight assist off (well sorta), but as to when it's actually a good time to do it is the hard part for me.

Hi Elite Age. I just bought the game. Working through the training missions now.

I really prefer to play the game as nonviolently as I can once I get going.... any guides as to first steps to take?

As I do most of my dogfighting in resource extraction sites fixed weapons aren't so fun... and turreted weapons are the worst as you can't control friendly fire as much. I use two gimbaled lasers one beam and one pulse plus two gimbaled multi-cannons.Gets the job done..

I prefer gimballed weapons on my Asp too (when I have weapons installed at all that is). Fixed beams may do more damage but I've found that I just kill things so much faster with gimballed. In a vyper or an eagle that might be different, haven't flown either of those since the first week of launch...

Trading would be a great place to start. Do small cargo missions in your Sidewinder until you can afford the Hauler. Shouldn't take long then start using the Elitetradingtool.co.uk to work out good trades in your area.

Best way to earn money without getting into combat. Hope that helps! :) It's what I'm doing anyway.

I am really interested in this game, I just want to know if the game is easy to play if I never played this kind of games and I only have an Xbox 360 controller.

If someone pops chaff against your gimballed weapons, all you have to do is remove the target and your gimballed weapons are suddenly fixed.

Spent about an hour scouring the galaxy map last night and found a perfect Luxuries system.

Are there any factors to consider to keeping a system in boom?

Gimballed work better in some hardpoints than in others. For instance, while you need gimballed on the Cobra for the wing hardpoints because of how spread out they are, they may as well be fixed for how little area they can cover.

Also, for shooting smaller ships gimbaled are pretty shit past 1.5k, they wobble too much for consistent damage where fixed can stay on target reliably past 2k. It's a matter of playstyle more than anything, personally I just get frustrated watching my lasers miss the target because of the gimbal wandering around.

This works great until you try to clear your target but select a fed instead. =/

Yesterday I flew the Anaconda for the first time. God. Damn. It sounds amazing, it doesn't get mass locked by the luxury seeking T9's, it has guns -everywhere- and carries 453 cargo.

also, going through a station's entrance is borderline pornographic now

Have you done any combat? Really curious as to how the gimballed targeting is, do ships just continue being locked when you can't actually see them or do you have to move your view to broadside?

I haven't, not yet. Given the hardpoint placements, though... my guesses are:

Huge hardpoint and small hard points: bellow the ship, probably can't track anything above center, so not great.
Large hardpoints: on top, should track anything as long as it is above center, so okay.
Medium hardpoints: at the sides, should track really well.

I guess I could use turrets to have a greater arc of fire but I don't really trust current turret AI. Also, they aren't cheap.

Interesting, thanks for the info. I wouldn't trust the turrets either. Currently trying to save up for a Type 9 to propel me to the 'conda but the 216 cargo on my Type 7 is making it quite a grind.

Blaauw Hub. Performance Enhancers.

Note to self, need to do this in solo mode. Some a-hole just blew me up while I was waiting for the trader to pick up my stuff. No warning or anything, just a one-hit instant kill, how is that even possible?
