But those ships are worthless for anything but "haul more cargo make more money".
I'll never need anything bigger than my viper for fighting until they add the rest of the 30 ships and maybe give some more medium price range combat vessels.

Basically all ships above the Cobra are "prestige" ships at this point and only really get flown by the grinders/traders

For the crazy larger ships I'd agree, but the Asp sits right in the middle. It's got enough hardpoints and it's nimble enough to be a good dogfighter. It has more than enough utility mounts to do anything. It's got enough internals to be able to do many things at one time and still have very roomy cargo space, it can be a hauler / miner / explorer all at once. It has an incredible jump range. It's a medium ship so it can land at any station. And then it has that excellent visibility from the seat. The only ship which comes even close to the flexibility of the Asp is the Cobra, but even it can't do everything at once, you need to pick and choose with the Cobra.

I have zero desire to own an Anaconda / Python / Lakon 9 / Orca. I'd rather be star hoping around the galaxy than grinding my way up to dozens of millions of credits. I've considered just settling for a Cobra but I really want that Asp!

Well if Jet Comms takes over, your bounty won't be able to get cashed in anymore so it might become dormant?

Be aware though that the conflict zones are ripe with PvP, so go solo mode if you don't wish to engage with other players.

Ah, thanks for the warning. I need some PvP practice though. Not sure how I'll hold up at all.

Think I'll go do a few minutes of extraction sites then head over so I can buy back a few times.

Awesome!

I'll take it from you :D

You can try :)

I really wanted an Asp until I got the thing. It's slow, a massive target in a fight and expensive as fuck to maintain. I ended up selling it for a Viper and haven't looked back. Game is 1000x more fun now that I'm not focused on grinding for cash.

Finished my first warzone combat mission at Steiner Hub. The effects are interesting. I wonder what Lockdown and Outbreak mean?

Son of a bitch! Took the combat mission from Jet Comm to kill 6 enemy ships in a conflict zone. Took my eagle in, wrecked five ships quickly. Needed one more and went after another Python. All was going well, had him down to 14% Hull, I was at 71%, my shield got knocked offline and I pitched up and hit boost to get some room, and he turned around and I ran right into him. Kabloomers.

There goes 15k in combat vouchers + my missions. XD

Time to do it again! :D

I think Lockdown means that they are locking down their area of influence.
Outbreak...maybe an epidemic? Caused by war? And if it braks out they'll need medical help?
Frontier did say that exists, just like Famine.

I had assumed Outbreak meant outbreak of war spreading to surrounding systems. Who knows!

Will be interesting to find out what it does! Loving the civil war :D

Okay I need help just tried the tutorial missions and it felt sluggish (the controls).

I got to the one after you kill two..the one where its a supposedly same skilled player and I spent an hour both of us 100% still.

=/
Slow down. Ships turn faster when your throttle is at about 50%.

Has anybody made an online "ship outfitter" or something like that? Showing prices and how much it would cost to get certain stuff?

Also, ASP insurance cost is base $250k?!? Holy shit. Maybe I'll buy the Type 6 later this week and just start saving a tone of money.

I've been spending the last few days fighting in Barnard's Star actually for that civil war, I'll head back to Ho Hsi now. :p

For some reason I've went from Friendly to Neutral with Jet Comm :( Even though I've only been doing their missions and killing Ho Hsi Corp ships!

Yeah, the maintenance does concern me. I mean with a fuel scoop gas isn't an issue, but any damage will be costly to repair. It's one of my biggest reasons for considering just grabbing a Cobra and enjoying myself instead. I can always just sell / rebuy modules to change roles if the mood strikes me. Plus the rebuy cost of a decked out Cobra is so much less than the insurance for an Asp. And I could easily afford to kit out a Cobra right now and still have credits to spare...

I did once read that conflict zone missions might be a little buggy and take rep away.
Thought they fixed it though.

This would be useful. I need to get a hyperdrive that doesn't suck so much or whatever, there's missions to places I can't get to cos they're too far away from anywhere.

How will my somewhat well upgraded Viper fare in this conflict zone? I suppose I could buy Cobra, but it won't be quite as decked out as my Viper. I've been doing my part to start the civil war in Ho Hsi, but mostly offline. I'm gonna jump online now, though, look out for CMDR Saganator.

The viper is a better combat ship than the cobra.
You will be fine.

Nice! I've yet to fight an actual person. I tried to last night, but I kept finding people with clean records in Ho Hsi and surrounding systems. I've managed to kill a fair bit of Master and Deadly AI's, though, which is probably nothing special.

Any good trade routes to do round the Ho Hsi area with my Hauler? Just bought one as I'm crap at bounty hunting. Need a more relaxing job :D I'm using the trade graph from this OT but right now I have no clue what I am doing lol. Managing to get about 3-5k in profit so far but I'm sure I could get more if I, well knew what I was doing!

I use this tool:

http://elitetradingtool.co.uk/

I definitely need to lower the amount of time I spend getting to the stations though. Am going to look for a shorter route because at 9k and 11k from the jump in point, I'm just wasting time. A cheaper route that's closer will net me more.

Yea I've gone from allied to friendly, looks like it's still bugged.

65 confirmed Ho Hsi kills so far. I'm in the high intensity zone closest to Hand Ring if anyone wants to join the fun.

I don't have the game yet, but I plan on getting it when I get my claptop fixed. Flying around in storage spring ships and stuff sounds so awesome!

About the planets and suns, I know there isn't landing on planets yet, but how do players interact with them if at all? Are they to scale? Can you fly into massive rings surrounding a planet, or is it just a backdrop/unreachable area? Someone mentioned being to close to a sun; how close can you actually get? How big are these objects in space compared to the real things?

Is there something like a gimbaled dumbfire missile rack?

Alternatively, what's an upgrade for the gimbaled multi cannons on the eagle?

Hoping someone can assist? I've got FacetrackNOIR working with a Logitech C160. But I don't really get the whole curves side of the setup, and currently it's super sensitive.

Anyone using it and have any settings suggestions?

Thanks!

Thanks will check this out. :) I want to join in on the action at Ho Hsi but I jumped into a low intensity fight and I was getting pwned big time in my sidewinder. I then realised it is probably best to try a different life in this game until I get my thrustmaster hotas x haha

Is there any way to select "no PvP"? If I use the Solo mode, do profits and ships and whatnot that I earn in that mode carry over to when I go back to the regular mode?

Some bastard just killed me, twice. I'm just trying to take some damn cargo to a place to make some startup cash! It's not even valuable stuff! First time it was tea, then after I died I didn't have enough money for tea so I got natural fabrics. What the hell???!?!? Why do people do this.

I had the "Report crimes against me" option on, does that mean there'll be some sort of penalty for them? Because I sure fuckin hope so.

People do it because they can. They play psychos/pirates. he has a bounty on him now.
Solo mode is the same as online mode just without players.

Yeah, it's what I'm doing. Trading until I have a ton of money and not be destitute when I run out of ammo or lose a ship, plus all the flying is getting me more akin to my ship(s).

Some people are just out for the easy kill. These are usually the ones that complain about open and solo being "connected".

"But I kept killing this sidewinder with 2t cargo with my fully kitted Viper and he just goes to solo!"

Go solo, you lose nothing except the ability to 'see' other players. I haven't needed to go to solo yet, has all been open but I imagine in the more crowded sectors I may do it just because I'm enjoying my trade routes. Losing hours of work because of the "omgawesome risk involved" sounds ... well, idiotic.

No shame in doing trade runs in solo, especially if you can't afford to lose. After playing almost all solo for a few days, I have a decent bank account and now I'm playing pretty much always online, I go solo when I can't dock at an outpost.

I have a few questions about this game if you don't mind answering.

does it play like Eve, except you pilot the ships and has dog fights etc? economy sound similar

does keyboard and mouse work fine or do you need a joystick to be competitive? what about controllers?

is the galaxy to big? is using a 1:1 scale too big?

if I play the solo mode, does that stop me porting my character to the proper online mode?

1) Plays nothing like Eve, the economy aspect is fundamentally similar however.
2) Game pad is a bare minimum in my opinion, but a hotas joystick is far superior.
3) Galaxy size is fantastic
4) You can freely jump between Solo, Group or Open Play any time you want.

Something's definitely up with the reputation in the game at the moment, I went from Friendly to Unfriendly after handing in my combat bonds at Steiner Hub...

Just started playing this with my x52 Pro and trying to do the very last combat training mission and its as hard as nails. Does anyone have any tips?, the enemy AI seems to be able to stop really fast and do a 180 and come back towards you yet my ship seems incapable of doing such maneuvers!
