I think it’s a good move for him to develop his own AI company since he has enough resources to potentially compete with the big guns—OpenAI, Google, Meta, etc.

They haven’t had much time since xAI was founded though, so this is probably an open source model with at most some fine tuning and not groundbreaking tech, which is why he’s trying to differentiate it with a snark factor.

I don’t see it adding a lot of value to an X premium sub in its current form but it’s part of his convergence strategy long term.

Keep in mind that you can have any AI model do this. For example:

So, it's not necessary to do any R&D, just set an existing model to a snarky disposition with internal context (which you can do with ChatGPT in settings if you wish).

But we'll see how it stacks up to the competition generally when people get their hands on it.

AI in its current form is exactly what it needs to be: reductive in mundane and repetitive tasks. This whole snarky attitude persona bullshit is fucking cringy and has no real purpose other than "hey look I'm different guy, isn't my AI really cool?"

Why people want AI to comment on political topics, create porn fanfics or some other weird shit is bizzare. It is quite literally doing its actual job incredibly well, despite hiccups in factual/correct processing. Heck, I have saved countless hours feeding GPT Pro my work to then have it create varied responses that I couldn't have even thought about or done in a shorter space of time.

genuine question, since I don't follow the comedy scene that closely, but is Daniel Tosh/Tosh.0 still a thing? ChatGPT and the other large corporate models are heavily compromised and censored, to the point where it's becoming a serious ethical problem for the most powerful technology to be so deeply distorted by the preferences of a few US corporations. So any work to come at AI from another angle is laudable.

His team isn't a joke, either... the list of AI engineers who moved over to xAI is substantial, drawing from all of the big movers of the past decade (Deepmind group, OpenAI, MS research, etc).

For what it's worth, there are already a few competitors who permit fully uncensored models. One prominent example is NLPCloud, which is heavily privacy focused to its core, has zero terms of use or restrictions, and has its own powerful chat model (not on par with GPT4, but absolutely up there with the best models like 3.5, LLama2, etc). You can use those freely for pornographic stores, even through the API for monetized apps and they have no restrictions on what you could monetize. I don't know if anyone has built porn-story apps from it or not, but it's available.
