Emily Rogers: Splatoon Switch is not a sequel, allegedly. Same for Mario Kart.

Surprised so many are down on this. If it's cheap for Nintendo to port, and easy to do, why not pad the launch lineup and Year 1 with Wii U ports.

Of course, it will suck having to buy them again, but if it sates the Year 1 drought I'm all for it.

I don't see anything in that tweet that says anything how she knows it's a port of the original as opposed to a sequel.

She simply seems to be reposting her original rumor and saying the trailer confirms them.

Not to mention the original rumor was that there was difficulty bringing over splatoon's infrastructure, it's more likely they're starting further from scratch.

Sounds like they're going to exist in-between ports and sequels, which is fine as that means we get both new content and we get the games sooner. I'm certainly more inclined to double dip on these than I am on something like Skyrim.

Why call these ports if there's new content, new graphics, and new mechanics? If true, I don't get Nintendo.

It's no different from Remasters that are frequent during consoles early life now. This thing is not going to be backwards compatible probably, so it makes sense that they want their flagship Wii U titles available at launch. The enhancements and additional content will sweeten the deal.

I held off buying Splatoon and Mario Maker since NX was on the horizon. I'm there for those day one. However, I do hope Nintendo offers some sort of discount if you bought the WiiU versions and NX versions aren't significantly different.

I'm very interest in all of these enhanced Wii U ports, but I think they have the be careful not to flood the new platform with "old" games - to the extent of letting it stand on it's own two feet.

Because they're still largely the same games, just as GTAV and Last of Us remastered are largely the same just better looking with some new features.

Narrative games wouldn't follow the same rules as these arcade types of games. With enough additional content (characters, stages, mechanic refinements) they can easily blend the lines of DX/1.5 sequel.

I mean are Super Street Fighter, NBA 2K15-NB2K16 ports or sequels?

Narrative games like Uncharted and Last of Us aren't built the same way to do these kinds of things.

I sold my Wii U last month, but it wasn't easy: even though I played the hell out of Xenoblade X (300+ hours) and Mario Kart 8 (+200 hours), I still want to play them. I would gladly buy MK8 again, and if a XenoX port is announced I'll be a very happy gamer.

The people down on it probably have Wii us. I know I'm down on it because darn it, I already bought a wii u to play these games. If a significant part of the early lineup is Wii u ports, it's going to be really barren for me.

Did some people really expect Splatoon, Mario Maker and Mario Kart sequels just like that from the start? Lol

I can understand thinking Splatoon may have been a sequel, but Nintendo aren't miracle workers. Plus these are great games that didn't get the sales they deserved.

There will be plenty of new games.

Works for me. I didn't want to buy a wiiu because I was worried they'd just be ported to the NX so I never got around to playing wiiu games

I thought this would be obvious.

Nintendo just got it feet wet with HD development last gen and those games came out for a system with barely an install base.

Enhanced ports make sense.

Do people really expect another Smash iteration in less than 2 years? Especially how Sakurai kills himself making them lol

As someone who bought these games on Wii U, I welcome the enhanced ports. I didn't get enough time with them on wii u and tons of people missed out.

It's like getting mad at the last of us remaster on ps4.

Enhanced ports for year 1 doesn't mean the system can't get proper sequels down the line, either. Yes, I know a lot of these franchises have a '1 per console' rule, but those rules can be broken if the '1' is just a port. This helps round out year 1 and lets people who missed out enjoy them. We still only know of 6+ switch games at this point, let's wait until launch announcement event before deciding 'lol switch is nothing but ports'

I do assume that these ports will add a decent amount of content too, so it gives a reason for old and new fans alike to pick it up.

Zelda is a cross release, like Metal Gear or Dragon Age, not a port.

I expected Splatoon and Smash, but i can't believe they're doing it for MK8 as well. Maybe they want to move the userbase of all these multiplayer games from Wii U to the new console, and take their time to build the next entries in the series.

I'm still thinking Mario Kart ∞. All the content from 8, plus new content and a stream of DLC throughout Switch's life.

To all the people complaining that we should be getting new versions of these online/multiplayer franchises:

Honestly, the content in the Wii U games is so phenomenal that I think it all needs to be on Switch as soon as possible. And I think it'd be a shame if it all died with Wii U. Add some new content while they're at it (8-16 more Mario Kart tracks?), and it'll feel like a new game anyway.

So you wouldn't buy a Smash Bros. with new characters, stages, and game modes? Mario Kart with additional characters/karts, CUPS, and battle mode? There is no way any Nintendo fan is saying no to that. Oh yeah, you get to play them on the go. Your online community also lives on for the next 4-5 years.

I'm actually kind of okay with a bunch of enhanced ports. Stuff like Mario Kart 8 was absolutely fucking great. I'd gladly buy it again with some new stuff because it was so damn fun. There aren't many developers who can get me excited about something like that.

If the launch is going to be that full of ports, I totally don't mind. However, I'd love to see an upgrade program in place for WiiU owners of these titles. Playstation, Xbox, and Steam have done various kind of upgrade programs in the past for certain ports, it would be great if I were able to get these ports for a cheaper price, since I've owned all of these on WiiU.

I bought Smash on 3DS and Wii U. They'd have to give me a deep discount to convince me to buy it AGAIN and be forced to go unlock everything AGAIN.

What people want is old games that were on the previous system?
Yes, and these ports existing doesn't immediately mean there won't be completely new games, though we'll have to wait for Nintendo to give us more details on that. There is an audience for these ports/remasters, this generation is very good indication of it.

What people want is old games that were on the previous system?

Yes. Look how well remasters do on other systems.

Plus, in this case, no one bought the previous Nintendo system. this is a chance for more people to experience some of the great games that were stuck on Wii U.

Unlocking everything practically consists of turning the game on and pressing 3 buttons in Smash 4.

Although I wouldn't buy it either.

And that's what they looked like in the NS reveal.

I played Splatoon for about 10 hours. Mario Kart for about 50. Smash is nearing 2000. I'll probably get them all again, depending on what else is announced for NS.

To me that sounds pretty neat. I wonder if people who already own the WiiU games can get a discount. Fairly easy to do (in theory but this is still NIntendo) If you log in to your Nintendo account on the system and checks if you've bought the digital edition or dlc for the game and then offers a discount to the product. Don't think it'll happen because Nintendo though.

Mario Kart Switch with all the Tracks of Mario Kart 8 + the DLC tracks + (at least 1 new cup, probably 2-4) AND new characters would be absolutely godlike. Oh, and maybe battle mode stages as well

Same with Smash really: All the stages of both the 3DS and WiiU version, maybe Smash Run also on the Switch version but with online mulitplayer added to it. + new characters. Come on, that sounds pretty rad!

For smash competitive it'll be great to have a few extra legal stages too.

What hot garbage. Nintendo is becoming more and more like the rest of the industry. I wonder if we'll see a fee for online multiplayer this generation too.

This thing is going to have like 1 or 2 original launch titles and a dozen ports isn't it?

Which most non-wii u owners will find a lot more appealing than 4-5 original launch titles and no ports. As a wii u owner I'm a bit frustrated but it's to be expected.

Pretty sure Mario Kart 8 will include some new stuff. A DLC pack #3 was rumored to be released in 2017 :

I'm OK with this if it exposes more people to these excellent Wii U games. Slightly bummed that they're just enhanced ports instead of completely brand-new, but if it means having a nice, healthy selection of quality games at launch, then by all means do what you have to do, especially since the console is only 5 months out.
