What You'll Get
The Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars PC Demo comes with the final version of Valley, one of the larger battlegrounds in the game. Set in Yosemite, California, Valley has the Global Defense Force on the attack, as they attempt to foil a Strogg contamination plot centering on a water treatment facility. Valley features a great blend of close quarters infantry action, vehicle battles and aircraft dogfights, and the varied terrain combining mountains, waterways, tunnels and industrial structures allows for many different playing styles. To top it all off, there's a multitude of optional side missions and plenty of opportunities to try out the various defense turrets, artillery and radar deployables - Valley is a prime example of the frantic and diverse action you'll find in Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars.

If you want to learn more about Valley, read our Valley Map Guide for a full run-down of the team objectives, secondary missions and a host of tactical tips for getting the most out of the various GDF and Strogg weapons, items, deployables and vehicles.

For those who already played Valley in the Public Beta, the map has undergone further balance improvements based on your feedback. Most notably, the GDF can now capture the Contaminator Forward Spawn before the Shield Generator is hacked, which really cranks up the action around that objective. On top of that, the Demo contains the final XP and weapon balance, player movement, and vehicle handling.

The Demo also features ETQW's bots, so you can explore the map and gameplay in single player mode with computer-controlled opponents, or use the bots to fill up empty slots on multiplayer servers. We are also including the standalone server as well as the server launcher tool, so you can host your own online and LAN games.

Where You'll Get It
We're working with a large number of file hosting websites in order to make the Demo available to as many people as possible. These include Yahoo, Nvidia, FilePlanet, and Fileshack among many others - we'll be keeping an up-to-date list of mirrors right here on the Community Site, so you can pick the one that's best for you.

What Else You Can Look Forward To

To celebrate the launch of the ETQW Demo, we've got a number of cool activities planned. On September 10, we'll be having an IRC Demo launch party in the official Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars IRC channel. This is your chance to chat with members of Splash Damage, id Software, and Activision and play a few rounds of the ETQW Demo with them afterwards.

We've also teamed up with a number of partners to bring you several Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars Demo tournaments, so you can try out the game, put your skills to the test and win Cool Stuff. Our partners here include Total Gaming League, Xfire, Eurogamer, and IGUK. Look for more information on these and other Demo events in the coming days!

The map in the demo is VALLEY (not in the screenshots)

Don't forget to watch the training videos for both Strogg and GDF

When retail launches the Stat tracking page will also launch for all you stat loving bitches :). Check it out here

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't try the beta, I heard there were a few issues though. Hopefully they've made some improvements and everything goes smoothly.

I personally think that ET:QW will set the standard for Teambased online multiplayer. This game is just so much darn fun!

5 replies. PC gaming really isnt doing too well.
It's a shitty game (it was in Beta at least)

Wolfenstein Enemy Territory was big because it was free. And we're all waiting for tomorrow when the TF2 beta gets announced and September 25th for the Crysis demo. Plus, Company of Heroes :D (and still Bioshock - taking it VERY slowly ^^)

Don't judge a BETA.

The first BETA was shitty, the Second BETA a mile better and actually very fun, after server improvements it actually got very good. The demo promises even better gameplay so i can't wait basically!

The idea behind the game is just excellent, the classes, the action focused gameplay really fits my likings.

let the BF2 fan's come in and bash Quake Wars.. Point is, I don't like to spawn.. wait for a vehicle.. miss the vehicle... walk for 5 minutes for some action .. get killed and do everything again.

Quake Wars is not for everybody.

Not a big believer in this game... The almost complete silence about the game is the biggest sign... Not heard any good impressions of the beta either.

But what's really interesting is that Quake Wars has been designed to work well when you can't even fill the server. Splash Damage was born out of online games that drew the attention of the hardcore, which means training constantly, which means it's tedious to always have to get together a big team. Thanks to the focused front you can play Quake Wars 3 on 3; it's just a little slower, a little more tactical, and a lot more personal. We spent all day playing this game and can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that it's great, and it's finished, and all they're doing now is spit-polishing. If you still haven't settled on any games to be excited about this summer then you should know this is a very safe bet.

Gamespot
At the very least, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars has two things going for it: the legacy of Quake II and the pedigree of Wolfenstein's highly competitive, fine-tuned multiplayer gameplay. But from what we've seen, the development team is planning to do a lot more than just rely on the reputation of previous games. Quake Wars has all the makings of a highly ambitious, deep, and huge multiplayer game in which first-person-shooter enthusiasts can truly test out all their skills. The game is scheduled for release later this year.

IGN
Though on paper (or text on computer monitor), this game sounds like every class has a strict functionality and strategic situations in which you'd be effective are easily identifiable, that isn't really the case. Battle in Quake Wars are absolutely frantic, with detonations all around, tanks rolling over teammates, artillery batteries whizzing down from the skies, space-based laser cannons sweeping across the field, and of course a constant haze of bullets. Fighting is fluid as well, since combat shifts around so often as objectives are completed and one team gradually takes more and more ground. Thankfully there are a number of icons that pop up on your minimap showing where objectives or teammates that could benefit from your class' abilities are located. Going off on your own is very rarely an effective tactic under these conditions. Instead, moving as a team, with an Engineer to set up a defensive turret, Soldier for explosive firepower, Covert Ops to scout enemy positions, and a Medic to keep everyone alive is crucial to victory. While many games of this type like to toss out a whole bunch of options for play, they're not always able to translate to a system where everyone can be effective. Quake Wars, like the Enemy Territory before it, does a great job at making the player feel useful regardless of class, and offers tons of different ways to significantly shift the fight's flow. If there's a sudden need for an air strike, the Field Ops class is only a few button presses and one respawn away.

Kotaku
The two most impressive things I noticed in the gameplay demo was the interesting weapon selection, from the hand weapons to the vehicles and deployables the game includes, (any game that has mech walkers can't help but be fun) and the graphics.

The graphics were really impressive. Splash Damage used id Software's new MegaTexture rendering technology to create impressively large outdoor environments. The one we saw took place in a wilderness setting with a clearing surrounded by forested hill and you could actually run around in those trees. The game also allows for day and night battles and includes weather, we're told.

But the most beautifully executed aspect of the game is the objective-driven map play, which sees all the elements mentioned above coming together. In the Valley map, this consists of the GDF pushing forward to eliminate the Strogg contamination facility. Along the way, critical mission objectives, such as building a bridge, escorting a command post and disabling shield generators, call for serious teamwork.

It’s gameplay like this that makes you forget about the visual element of the game. The character and vehicle models are brilliant to look at, and the explosions (which reportedly got a facelift since Beta 1) are spot-on. While Valley is fairly bland open map with little vegetation, it also showcases the incredibly deep draw distance in Quake Wars – making it possible to take out an enemy hundreds of meters away.

Is there some sort of permanent leader board, where I can embarrass myself publicly?

The only thing I disliked with ET was the fact when you disconnected from the server all was lost. I know that the XP will probably be per session, still it would be nice to have some permanent stats.

www.splatterladder.com is a stat tracker of sorts. Plus clan servers out there have proper stat trackers for kills/deaths etc. Also XP is saved depending on the time limit of the server you're playing on.

Sadly this has achievements, resulting in a lot of stat whores.

It tracks pretty much everything, from XP gained to kills etc. You get a rank according to your stats which displays as a symbol next to your handle.

This'll be a good test of the ol' video card.

If I loved Quake 3, but didn't really get into Wolf: ET, will it still appeal to me?

I have a ATI 9600XT running on a XP3200+ system with 1gig of ram. It's a pretty ancient setup, but it's taken me through Doom 3, HL2, and HL2 Ep1. Here's hoping I can get at least 20fps out of this demo! Otherwise it might be time to consider an upgrade....

Thanks for the stats update guys..

I'm not much of a stat/rank whore myself as I do not have the time to devote to gaming anymore. Still I do like to see my progress, esp with these type of online games.

Gives me an interesting set of goals. Looking forward to the demo.

cool site: http://stats.enemyterritory.com

Nice and fast. Will this be wiped for the demo? It does say Beta on it.

After playing ET for 4 years, plus playing the QW closed beta...

No.

There are big differences i agree, but i think the differences between B2 and QW are FAR bigger that ET and QW.

Gamespeed is both fast
Both are objective based
Both have frenzic, fast action
Some of the same taunts ;)
Same developer

But, i don't want to start a discussion, have you enjoyed the BETA?

The beta was a pain in the ass for my poor pc:

AMD 3000+
Radeon 9700PRO
1 Gig ram

Do you think that with this demo things will be a little different?

Thanks.

I agree on those points, but I didn't enjoy the beta because it just wasn't what I wanted from the ET name. For example, you can no longer go out solo and get killing sprees on your own as say, a medic. The vehicles in the game really take the run-and-gun rambo gameplay out of the game. Any ET player would agree with me on that. Its just more BF2 and alot less ET.

I'll still play the demo to give it another chance, the closed beta rarely had a full server going, so who knows, maybe it can pull me in.

If I loved Quake 3, but didn't really get into Wolf: ET, will it still appeal to me?

I think you're better off with a twitch/arena shooter like Unreal Tournament 3 instead tbh.

That processor is ancient, you realise that right?

He's joking, you realize that right?

As far as the topic is concered, I'll give the demo a spin. Also in the interest of the PC defense force on GAF and all that!

Crysis also has Multiplayer
I know, but a far cry (teehee) from being an alternative to UT3. The general consensus of the steep system requirement is too high for it to be a multiplayer succes like UT3 or a new Quake multiplayer only
