Stellar Blade - PC Demo out now

Clair obscur aims for that specific look and it makes a lot of sense.
I don't understand some pc gamers hatred for full screen effects. Sometimes it's tacky but it's fully arted for clair obscur
I hate them because they look bad and don't let me see the game. If it's an art thing, maybe limit them to cutscenes where they don't interefere with the gameplay, or at least tone them down a bit during gameplay.

Who tf plays hexen 2 with glide. It's a software game !
Heh, true. Those games look best when the pixels are extra chunky.

Clair Obscur, like many other modern games, is riddled with shit postprocessing effects and ugly fog.

Muted colors, fog everywhere, blur up the ass, dof to the point where you can't tell what the fuck is in front of you and you can't even see the blue in the sky.
You aren't wrong, but Clair Obscur goes for a surrealistic art style meant to convey absurdist paintings. All those effects are needed to make it look like that.

Runs nicely on my 1080p ultrawide monitor. Just default Very High settings. It gets my PC pretty hot, but I guess that's to be expected.

I have to disagree my man. I'm not a man of art, but a quick google of "absurdist art" shows me paintings where everything is perfectly visible and doesn't look like someone has smeared vaseline all over the canvas.

And if they want to achieve a dreamy or subreal look, there's way better ways of doing it than abusing post-processing effects. Just have a look at El Shaddai, imo the visual art of this game is miles ahead CO:E33 or most modern games for that matter.

No fog, no dof, barely any bloom... the game is just very clever when it comes to using colors and shapes to create amazing visuals.

Also sorry for derailing the thread with my babble. I just hate volumetric fog like you wouldn't believe. :goog_relieved:

I don't know. I think those are pretty damn close. The one above just seems to use watercolors.

This is intentional and it's based on a photography technique called tilt-shift.

You might not like it (and you're free to do so), but it's an artistic choice and nothing to do with anything you've stated.

I think they don't. In the first pic you can clearly see the platforms on the back. On the CO:E33 pic everything but the players is blurry.

Game blurry = ugly. I think it's that simple and the fact that theres a photography technique that does the same shouldn't serve as a excuse to make the game look ugly.

I don't even disagree and in 99% of cases, I turn it off. Hell, I turned it off even in Clair Obscur, but I don't mind too much when the visual style tries to be like a painting or statues. What annoys me is when games try to be movie because game creators for so long harbored such an inferiority complex they harped on cinema techniques to "legitimize" the art form.

It's just your opinion is that it's "ugly", but that doesn't get away from the fact that it was a deliberate and calculated choice of theirs to do it.

Plenty of people actually like the effect:

If you are on PC you can lower some settings and the effect goes away. I didn't like it either.

PS fans, Is there a way to play as Tachy or does she survive in some alternate timeline or something?

She should be the main protagonist. Hotter, cooler, better voice acting.
No, you cant play as Tacky, but EVE will have a Tacky mode later in the game where she uses the Tacky sword and outfit and some powerfull moves for a short period of time. Identical to the rage mode in God of War.

😢👍

Not only amazingly well optimized, the frametimes seem flawless too and i didnt even bother with frame gen, looks like a top tier port.

The animations and music are great, but the story/dialogue didnt grab me one bit, does it get more interesting later on?

Ive played it with a large amount of effects disabled so i have no clue how the vanilla version looks, is this a real image directly from the game or edited somehow?

It's cool they included a Steam Deck graphics preset. Running that with FSR3 'Balanced' and FSR3 sharpening turned up. Looks pretty good on a handheld screen and seems to run 40fps+ from the 45min or so I played it.

Huh....been a while since that's happened.

Was working great, but as soon as I brought up the Nvidia overlay, it hard crashed my whole rig and restarted. This is a very, very stable machine by the way, never had any issues at all.

Suppose I'll wait until the game's been out for a bit and maybe gets a few patches too. I do wanna play through it eventually though.

Took it from the internet, but based on my experience yes, that's how the game looks.

The overworld is the worst offender. Other areas don't look as bad.

Welp, that's twice now that the game has hard crashed my system. Definitely an uninstall this shit moment, lots of good games to play, no time to waste on this shit coming in hot.

Finished the demo and boss challenge. It really plays great once you start nailing the parry, dodge, blink moves. I feel like Nvidia reflex is doing wonders for the game, or maybe the high framerate idk, just feels tighter than I remembered.

Man, disabling the upscaler and just running TAA with 200% res scale on a 1440p display (so downsampling from 5k) makes the game look really bad. Eve's hair looks really bad and so much shimmering. lol.

1440p DLAA looks great, though, and cleans up the image nicely. I don't think the game looks ugly at all. It looks dated, yes, but on the other hand it locks to 120fps with no issues on my PC (7700x, 4070tiS).

Really looking forward to the mods... people will most likely add some graphics enhancements and maybe even RT.

Looks nice and performs great, didn't notice much in the way of stuttering either. I still won't be douple dipping though, doesn't offer much over the PS5 pro version on my configuration so I might as well save some money.

Either you are trolling or your computer is fucked. Check out the 1080p HP in Mr Moose's post versus yours.

FSR in performance looks like shit as expected but yours looks like its at the native FSR high performance resolution but then FSR didn't upscale.
There's nothing fucked. Are people using FSR4? Cuz i don't have that. And the first picture i posted looks cleaner than his 1080p ones, but that doesn't mean that it's good looking.

The ONLY way to make it look good is to supersample the game at 200% resolution, run the shitty TAA and add some sharpness.

Playing this demo made me reinstall Nier Automata and damn the combat is soooo much better. And the inspiration is so incredibly obvious. You even have a little drone. This game just feels like a poor man's Nier.
An imitation is what it is. Been saying it since the first demo launched on the ps5. Fully confirmed my prediction after having spent time on the final game on the ps5. But you can't say this kind of shit, a sexy chick is in it, and only woke DEI retards would be dumb enough to criticize a game like this.

Cringe af.

Couldnt even finish the demo, these kind of games are just not for me.

I'll give props for the optimisation, patato's should be able to run this. Although it looks like a PS4 game so maybe its performing like it should do.

Pretty much. Every reddit post, GAF post, twitter thread, etc. around this game boils down to hot girl or visuals. The gameplay just makes me want to play better games. I firmly believe if they didn't put a hot girl in it, even just a moderately attractive, this game wouldn't have reviewed as well with users. Maybe the game picks up later in the game, but by the end of the demo, it was a 6 or 7 at best for me.

another parameter I tried enables nvidia PCSS shadow filtering

r.Shadow.FilterMethod=1

the default shadow filter is a bit too sharp, looks almost like stencil shadows from Doom 3. Some people might prefer that though.

They keep the story very vague untill close to the end when things start making sense. Most of the game lore is told by diary entries you find in dead NPC.

The combat keeps improving. Boss challenge mode is great. The biggest issues of the game are the poor open world levels and repetitive side quests. Lack of fast travel hurts a lot, too.

Amazing t&a I must confess. Will probably take me about 260 hours to make it through the demo considering I'm taking about 40 screenshots every 10 seconds.

Runs great in VR out of the box, checking out Eve' as-I mean, the game's assets in true-to-life scale.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I liked this game and really enjoy my time with it but for me its absolulty not close to Nier Automata.

Expedition 33 did better job capturing feel of Nier while telling their original story.

Steller Blade in other hand tried very hard to be like Nier but characters and story telling is just no where near close to Nier.

Awesome game. Enjoy. Having played the whole thing, it's an action adventure, not a real action game. It doesn't have a high-grade fighting system, but it's still good and doesn't have to carry the whole game. Imagine a little God of War, a lot Nier:A.

The environment may not be UE5 standard but all the bigger enemies looks great, the bosses looks amazing, animations and sparkles and slow motion effects etc are all superb. The design in general is just fantastic tbh and the whole thing is quite the spectacle.

Also have you seen the body physics on Eve? Everything moves! They must have some kind of flesh engine going on and there is nothing dated about that, I want that in all games.

And yeah the screen refresh is essentially the limit in my case, it runs extremely well, best performing one with Sony as publisher so far.

Sounds like PC is the best platform to play this game based on impressions.

Oh, absolutely if you have the kit for it.

I played on ps5 standard before launch and it looked like trash compared to PC

Im sure ps5 pro brings it extremely close.

Does anyone know if the ps5 demo is patched for Pro?

Demo runs well.

The devs are abusing chromatic aberration.

Game isn't as exciting as I thought it would be, but reminds me of Darksiders 1.

Lots of people said it's a character action game.

Doesn't feel anything like Devil May Cry 5.

Why are you exaggerating? It didn't look like trash on regular PS5 and unless you do some 500% DF zoom side-by-side comparison or sit 30cm from your screen you wouldn't know what changed.

I'm just glad it runs so well that I would have to upgrade my screen to see how far up the framerate actually goes. It's a rare thing. They deserve my money for that.
Feels really snappy as well and I struggle less with parry/dodge/blink. Can't say if it's because of the higher framerate, or placebo and being more used to how it plays now, but I like it.

The rendering scale doesn't actually do anything, which is why it looks like ass. Put it on 50% instead and it will look exactly the same. Who knows what else is broken in the settings.

It's a tilt shift effect to make you look like a miniature on the world map. It's fantastic.
Would look like ass without it

Ok trash is a harsh word but the pc version looks a lot better to me than standard ps5.
