Englishmen, where do you buy your videogames?

Like everyone has mentioned here, digital online retailers. I found Simplygames to be the best for console releases, simply because it's likely to arrive at least a day early. If its a triple A release and I decide to dip in on release week due to project members picking it up - I can normally go into any of the Argos's in the city to pick up.

Is it something you do for fun or is this a business to you?

I don't see any ads on your site. What do you get out of doing this?

No ads, I choose not to put ads on there because I don't like ads, and since I use adblock, it would be pretty hypocritical of my to make other people view ads on my website.

I have affiliate commission agreements with most retailers, so I get a percentage of what my users spend through these links. Although whether or not a retailer offers me affiliate commission has zero bearing on whether I post links to them.

It's my full time job. In the past I've subsidized it with things like freelance games journalism, but I work on it full time now. Only other source of income is my patreon, but that's more about motivating me to write stuff semi-regularly than it is about the money.

I earn a below average UK salary, but in early 2015 I moved to South East Asia, and it is a salary I can live on very comfortably here.

Just bundling Scotland in with England huh?

For new releases simplygames.co.uk or Amazon, used a combination of amazon marketplace, eBay, GAME, CEX etc.

In-app purchases don't require shops.

Amazon, and from time to time, CEX. CEX is normally the only retailer worth going to, everything else can be found much cheaper online.
As an Briton I'm insist that you DO NOT go anywhere near CEX for your own safety. Full of weirdos and stinks to high heaven - mainly due to the nature of the clientele but sometimes also because of the staff (personal hygiene issues).

Simply games or gamekeeper or gamestopuk. Don't use amazon cos of the tax fraud they do, don't do game if possible, shopto no longer the deals they once were.

Well your mileage may vary of course, but I've had nothing but good experiences in CEX. Friendly staff, some even fixed my discs/hardware for free when I needed to.

Usually buy from wherever is cheapest, which is mostly online stores (though there are a few I have had bad experiences with and as such stay away from)...

Retail stores these days seem to all be GAME and they have terrible uncompetitive prices.

I'm not English, but I buy most of my stuff on-line from Steam/GoG/Amazon. The only time I was in GAME was to get myself the Steam Controller.

Man, I remember when I went to the UK in 2007 for a holiday. I went to every Gamestation I found, and it was amazing! There was this "BOG OFF" sale on all their retro stuff, 2 for 1! I bought up all the Dreamcast and Gamecube stuff I could get my hands on! I'd never even seen Dreamcast games in New Zealand before!

Ahh, memories.

I know this is a little off thread but does anyone use boomerang? Normally I buy and sell games but have started considering boomerang rentals for 2016

Not British, but when I was in London, I spent a lot of time seeking out record stores which took me off the beaten path. I think we did see some video game stores, but I didn't go into any. I think we only walked through Piccadilly Circus once just to connect to the Tube station there.

Mostly buy games online, SimplyGames, Amazon and CDkeys.com are my normal picks. Sometimes a local supermarket like Asda if I want to pick up a game on the same day.

Mostly Shopto as they are the most reliable one out there from my experience, and Amazon and Game if they have Exclusive Editions I want or have a deal.
