The holiday season is just about upon us, and there will no doubt be an influx of people -- members on this very board, even! -- who have a shiny new console but very little idea of what to play on it. In the spirit of these soon-to-be-enlightened souls, I think it'd be nice to make a list of your top tier games on the platform(s) of your choice. Not "pretty good" or even "A", but only the finest possible games that you couldn't live without (I make this caveat so we don't end up with lists of high-ranking games copied from IGN or Gamespot...even though we probably will anyway).
Since I am short on time right now, I'll only do the GC, but I'll see if I can hit the GBA later on.
GC
- Super Mario Sunshine (not the best Mario game, but still one of the finest platformers this gen)
- Pikmin 1 and 2 (fantastically addictive)
- Resident Evil Remake (BUT THE TANK CONTROSL OH SHIT)
- Metroid Prime (sorry, drohne) (also note: I have not played MP2 yet)
- Legend of Zelda: Collector's Disc (no, it's not a GC game, but you'd have to be nuts to own a GC and not have this)
- Legend of Zelda: Four Swords (only if you've got friends)
- F-Zero GX (uber-cheap and loads of fun)
- Timesplitters 2 (laugh all you want, but the co-op mode in this game is incredibly well-done. Multiplayer's fun too)
- Metal Gear Solid: TTS (yes, it's poorly done on a technical level, but luckily the brilliance of the original game overcomes SK's hack job)
There are others I had plenty of fun with (Smash Bros., Viewtiful Joe, Rogue Squadron II, The Wind Waker), but the list above is what truly makes me happy I owned a GC this generation.
