So in the first chapter Monkey disappeared when he got his equipment and when the worker dies for telling him stuff, but hasn't happened again. Anyone experience that? It worked fine in the demo. But so far just got to Chapter 3 and loving the game.
By the way, is the game missing it's boxart on the "game library" preview thing on the dashboard for anyone else? I think it may be my dashboard preview, but I'm not sure.
After all the positive comments I've been hearing about this game, I might be buying this instead of Lord of Shadow.
Go figure, a game that a heard nothing about till a few days ago.
God no, last thing I want to start is a "let us look for imaginary haters" game. Instead, I am just promptly going to take the opportunity and RAAAGE about Chapter 5 boss, for whom, if you play it on hard, you need PERFECT execution and ALL the spare ammo you get. I got there with 2 normal and 3 stun ammo left, and all the ammo refill on the map was not enough if I even missed 1 (!) stun timing, and that means restart.
After an hour of fail, I had to scale back to normal to this specific stage, very funny...
I don't know, I'm playing on normal and I've died a couple times. The combat isn't easy or hard - just fair. If you like a bigger challenge then I guess hard, but I honestly don't think this is one of those "normal feels like easy" games.
Anyhow, I'm up to chapter four. Damn.
The first dog encounter scene was thrilling to watch. I'm legit scared of those things. Dumb bitch, she should of stayed hiding in the dumpster. Ive been getting the floating white faces that give me visions of real life people pictures, not sure whats going on here. At first it was a computer so I thought that represented the player like they were becoming aware its a videogame with human input. Now its just random pictures of people and...Shakespeare? Wtf?
I'm loving this game. I do think its annoying that I have to find places to drop and can't fall or that jumping is context based (I can hop in place, what the hell point does that serve). The actual platforming control is probably the weakest part of the game but looking for routes (at times when you can't simply spam the analog stick) and doing it is still enjoyable imo.

UC2 doesn't have that 20-ish framerate feeling to it though. Enslaved is rather... 'jittery'.
(Retail Xbox360 version and installed btw.)
The art style of the city is excellent though. But, if destroyed city is your thing and not really deep combat that doesn't have rather severe slowdown too, Darksiders is the better alternative to Enslaved.
Can't say that I have a good feeling about the whole after completing it. Main reason:
pigsi or the whole third act for the story, basically
For some reason Star Fox adventures keeps forcing itself on me as a comparison (yeah, the stick).
think im gonna pick this up for $30(splittin with a friend on trus b2g1) was gonna get castlevania but i'll wait until the LE inevitably drops in price good choice?
I did have some audio problems occur throughout the game. Sounded effects wouldn't happen (Example, there was no machine gun sound F/X when guns went off). Not sure if this happened with the 360 version.

Finished Chapter 2, pretty freaking mediocre =/ Unreal engine is hard on the eyes and I cannot stand it how in order to make that ledge jump that is already annoying for it being the only way- you have to jump in the right spot too.
I don't want to compare this to high profile adventure games like Uncharted or Assassin's Creed but I have no choice but to as a comparison. And it just wrecks the game.
I really wanted to like this, GAF what an I doing wrong? :lol
Edit: Also it's the 360 version I'm playing and God is there a lot of audio issues with my copy. The visuals aren't terrible as far as pop ins or screen tearing but the blur effect is really grainy.
Wow, this is GOTY contender for me. I haven't had so much pure fun playing a game in a long time. Everything just comes together for me, the setting, the characters, the combat. It's awesome.
It really is gorgeous, I haven't seen such a visually stunning game since Uncharted 2.
Came across a really weird bug in chapter 2 though,
just after I unlocked the upgrades and spent all my orbs Monkey just randomly died, causing me to repeat the previous fight. All my upgrades were still purchased, and I got even more orbs for killing all the mechs again.
There's a lot of bugs in the game that had me restarting checkpoints, especially during boss fights where the next section of the boss battle wouldn't load.
My biggest annoyance were the lift/cart/platform controls. Sometimes, it would take at least 5 tries to get it move a direction.
On Chapter 11 only glitch I've had so far was I killed a dog to close to a wall (stunned him before a chase so he wasn't moving when I had to go after him) and Monkey jumped into the wall during the killing animation and just sorta spazed out.
Love the game, gotta agree with the Uncharted stuff. Feels very similar to me only thing that I dislike was the last cloud chase I had to do (the one before u meet Piggy), just kept hitting hte mines. Had to reload it like 5 times to pass it.
I dunno, I just have a really good time playing it. I recognise it isn't perfect, and it has a couple of issues, but I look past them and keep enjoying it. Not many games can do that for me, that's why it's shaping up to be one of my GOTY, definitely not the GOTY yet.
No spoilers but I'll paste the link instead of the picture to be safe...I can do all these crazy jumps and 5 meter leaps but I can't climb a dumpster and jump up to that handle? "I have to find another way around"? Ugh. :lol http://imgur.com/Mrbd2.jpg
btw, up to chapter 8. Didn't expect to play this much today. Still having a blast but Trip makes me want to smack a bitch right now.

guys who got ps3 version. Does it perform the same as in demo throughout the game?
I have the PS3 version. It performs similarly. I mean, there are times when it can be very choppy but it's not like that the whole time (or as much as the demo where there was a LOT of explosions and shit happening at once on screen). A little rough but not a deal breaker. The game really should be smoother though, Ninja Theory people reading this.

I'm just reading through this thread and it's funny how the posts are.
Downloading the demo now. I liked Heavenly Sword ( at least until Grey Fox....Fuck that guy), so i'll see where I fall.
People have a lot of different opinions. It seems those who think it's meh still think it's meh and those who love it love it, no one is really changing their mind during. It's a GOTY contender for me. I stand firm at "breath of fresh air"! Room for improvement but does a lot right and as a package it's a punch in the face of fun and awe.
The voice acting and animations, can't get over it.
Monkey: "It's a cloud..." His face looked so bothered, with a "Um...are you stupid?" look. :lol Top notch.
all in one session.
It's a game that's imperfect and that does not innovate at any level, yet it's truly fun to play.
A genuine, cinematic experience that can fascinate you with its amazing landscapes and its astonishing colors (it's the only game along with Mirror's Edge that doesn't make the Unreal Engine look brownish and greyish, what a miracle!!) and a great adventure with a wonderful atmosphere.
I hope it sells, it's not a GOTY conteder but it's sure a nice, entertaining game.
what difficulty are you lot playing this? I usually go easy as I just want to blaze through a game however sometimes easy difficulty is just ridiculous......yeah I'm looking at you Ratchet and Clank: ACiT.

This. Chapter 7 was one of the most painful gaming experiences in a while I can recall. They really needed to take a page from the HL2 Ep1 book of emotional subtlety from female companions.
Early game question:
Do they explain why that spotlight was following you during the first dog sequence?
Random end game thoughts:
The scene when Monkey gets Trip to reactivate the headband ends way too abruptly. It's really the last scene we get that addresses the whole reason they were on the journey and they could have done more with getting across the bond they made. Also reminds me how much I miss the higher cutscene quality from Heavenly Sword.
They really should have held back on the trophy name joke after Pigsy dies, kind've kills the emotional resonance. Maybe if they would have lightened the mood by amping up his attitude right before he bites it, but you just kinda feel bad for him while he suffers on the chair.
Lastly, I hate the idea of juxtaposing real imagery within games. The only way I can see them justifying it is by them expecting the player to make the observation that the characters' reality and the reality that pyramid imposes are two separate things.
I love the way HT tells the storys in there games. They do a great job showcasing every person in the game. The story event parts, like
When Monkey/Trip arrive back to her hometown and how she freaks and you have to run and find her.
It makes everything I did in the game seem important and never thought "WTF am I doing this for?!"As I was playing there were parts that I thought other companies would have did very poorly.
Only major complaint I have with them is the length of their games. I picked it up last night, started to play at 8pm, Kept playing and beat the game at 4am.(I couldn't put it down)
I for one can't wait to see what NT does with DMC!!
I like it let's you change difficulty just you have to start at last checkpoint. I think I gonna stay with hard. Really enjoying the game not Uncharted level, but it's really fun.
Played the demo on my xbox and I'm quite surprised that it was soo enjoyable. It feels much better than HS gameplay wise, not digging the character design though.
It surely entered my wish list!
+ Wonderful characterization, story, voice-acting. Even liked the ending.
+ Platforming - even if automated - was good. Got much better later on too.
+ Great soundtrack, amazing visuals.
- Technical hiccups, horrendous pop-in.
- Wonky camera, combat is pretty bog-standard.
- Little to no replay value.
I finished this eariler and liked it quite a bit. You'd think the whole you can't miss platforming jumps would make that terrible, but I still thought it was pretty fun. Combat isn't great, but okay to me. And I liked how they kept some variety in the gameplay by switching between ranged and melee combat or doing some of the other different sequences and bosses. The characters, story, dialogue, cutscenes and all that was really great for the most part. Loved the look of the environments too. Particularly the second major area (I think it was Chapters 6-8 or so). And thought the music when you were just exploring was really cool. I mean the lighter stuff not the sort of big stuff though that was cool too. So, good gameplay, plus great story/characters/etc. and I thought this was a really cool game.
Oh also can you get the Beat on Hard trophy but just by beating each chapter on Hard via the Chapter select? Just kind of curious. Also, will your upgrades and stuff carry over if you play on hard?
After all the positive comments I've been hearing about this game, I might be buying this instead of Lord of Shadow.
Go figure, a game that a heard nothing about till a few days ago.
It definitely has the kind of magic those games possessed.
It's hard to put a finger on why, but I'm actually feeling like this might end up becoming my favorite game of the year. I'm enjoying this WAY more than I had ever expected.
It does capture my attention in a way similar to BG&E. There's no doubt that having a capable side kick alongside the main character adds a great deal to such games. Like BG&E and ICO, they've completely escaped the "escort mission" trap here. You really don't spend much time worrying about Trip (outside of a few specific scenes) and she adds a whole lot to the story.
Speaking of story, I think this is another great example of the kind of story telling that really works in games. The overall plot seems fairly simple and mysterious even (as you really aren't told what is going on, rather, clued in at some points). The story which drives you forward is that of the characters you are spending game time with. The personal interaction and character development is the driving force here. Building up this relationship adds more gravity to some of the situations they may encounter. I'm really surprised at how natural the relationship really is. I also really appreciate how some of the game related elements are explained. The HUD, for instance, exists as a result of the slave head band and trips programming.
Speaking of head band related visuals...
Is that Andy Serkis showing up in those visions? It sure does look like it.
At the time of release it is always difficult to say which games may or may not become cult classics ala BG&E, but I feel this has a real shot at it.
Oh yes, I now have faith in their Devil May Cry game. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed DMC games in the past, but not one of them really stuck with me. I understand the uproar over the new game, but in all honesty, I feel that it may be a game which ends up appealing more to me than any previous entry in the series. Could be an amazing experience.
you motherfucker, you compared the game to BG&E. That's the only possible fucking way I would have caved after the impressions :lol
Fuck, so I got the game. Yeah, I fucking got it. You tickled my goddamn soft spot and yelled the code command, and I sped away like a trained dog and did your bidding. Fuck. If I hate this game I am going to so rage at you, dark10x :lol
Anyway, visuals are nice, two initial problems:
- One there is a huge delay between pressing a button and the characters reaction. Makes all commands feel disconnected and as a result less fluid and enjoyable. Not quite sure why they thought that was a good idea.
- Two, camera angles suuuuck half the time. I understand the cinematic camera angle idea but for combat, it should have been better. 60% of the time the camera ends up in an awkward place for combat.
Anyway, that is all. The ship part was pretty neat, visually, when you exited the initial long boring repeat corridors anyway.
