Heck yea, my two issues noted, but otherwise sounds good. Love these reviews. I didn't think this would crash and burn in the reviews department, but wasn't totally sure either. These are solid.

Its probably about 6 hours. Reviewers always overestimate this stuff.
Probably because they're constantly stopping to take notes. Or hiding that they blew through the game on "easy." :lol

Surprise by the positive reviews, especially when the demo was very mediocre.

I guess the story really saves it. Hope this does well. Original IP like this needs more attention, and Namco's library really need some new blood to encourage them to do something fresh.

there should be a rule for reviewers to give out there gamertags, so we can see what difficulty the reviewer played at, or even if the reviewer completed the game.

Yeah? Then I hope everyone who forms an opinion about games must give out gamertags to see if THEY are competent enough to judge others opinion about that game ;)

I beat Enslaved on both systems on medium difficulty. But we do have to play games on debug sometimes. I got to level 50 in Dead Rising 2... on debug. And then got up to level 40 or so on my retail copy.

I'm expecting 9-10 hours first time through. I rarely come under what reviewers state. If they are averaging around 8 I'm 9-10 easy.

Updated OP with a bunch of reviews. Really surprised by the reception, I think I'll pick this up come Tuesday.

I'll never understand why reviewers don't include this information with their reviews. I often find myself jaded with reviewers when they discuss a game's difficulty or how short the game is. If we all can track a reviewer's trophy or achievement progress, then it puts more weight on their opinion. Did the reviewer just crank through the game on easy to meet a deadline? Did they really explore the game? These are all questions that I ask, but never have the answer to.

If we're playing a game on a debug system, you wouldn't be able to access that info. This is frequently the case. There's no public PartnerNet gamertags - and even if there were, it's uncommon for most reviewers to maintain one profile and carry it over. I try to, but it's rough.

Exactly.

Debug system, "do not go online" type of games, different gamertags for playing multiplayer and playing solo games... I have got a several 800/1000 gs stuff out of the Debug I have been reviewing games, not to mention my achievements being split amongst 2-3 different gamertags. Sucks, but the review should speak for itself.

Yes, clearly that wouldn't lead to harassment of said reviewer by people who disagree with the review or anything.

Ok then I guess I'll be picking this up instead of Castlevania next week. :lol I could flip flop again but I'm really liking what I'm hearing in the reviews.

I have 3 email accounts. One for personal use, one for pornspam and one for work. I don't know why I brought this up, but I thought you might like to know.

This is the one time we PS3 folks get to act all smug and superior -- sorta. The PS3 can very easily hop on the retail network and though the dev and retail networks, it's pretty easy to just use your normal profile. The only problem? There are a lot of early builds with Trophies that simply will never be on the retail server, so when you try to sync, it eventually hangs and times out.

At some point I'll go about figuring out what game is causing the hang and delete those Trophies. My stupid Trophy level will probably shoot up like three steps when I do.

Or people complaining the reviewer no way couldn't review the game because said reviewer didn't have a 1000 points in the game.

I've also used the term "good enough". As in, the actual gameplay mechanics are good enough to let the game be carried by the rest of its package (setting, story, characters, presentation etc.)

Scrolling down the page reading, I was going to post exactly this pretty much. It won't be a classic or anything, but good storytelling and presentation can go a long way just as good gameplay can the opposite.

I think i'm getting both or Castlevania. Normally i'd wait for Enslaved to drop in price to $15-20 or rent it, but that kmart $25 credit is enticing to pick it up, and the game is supposed to get some interesting dlc later on.

8/10 from Gamereactor Sweden

Wow, this thread has really grown in a day!

SO GLAD to see all the positive reviews from prominent gaming sites.

I'd only got to read a page and a half of new posts before I had to drop everything and preorder this!

I was so disappointed when I read this was going multi-platform. I was really hoping for a PS3 exclusive that allowed Ninja Theory to hone their skills to mega awesome, like Naughty Dog did, and Sucker Punch is going to.

I'm still game play over graphics, and I loved the use of sixaxis in Heavenly Sword, so does anyone know if I can hover board using sixaxis on my ps3? If not I'll pick up the 360 version.

There are no motion controls for the PS3 version.

:lol Holy shit

"My question is why you release a rather unpolished PS3 version when it was Sony who saved your company back in the Heavenly Sword days?"

oh my god :lol

I wanna play this game but I don't think the screen tearing is going to let me enjoy it... It was awful in the demo... is it true it's not that bad in the 360 version? Cause maybe I'll have to get that one... and I always get multiplatform games on PS3.

Seemed like about a 7 going by the demo.

Which is what Heavenly Sword was. Decent graphics, decent but not great mechanics, and a serviceable (but strange) universe.

Being merely slightly above average these days doesn't cut it. I may pick it up when it's heavily discounted, which it most certainly will be before the year is out.

I played the demo yesterday. Has the vibrancy, character design and shitty performance of Heavenly Sword married with the slightly awkward platforming of Uncharted 1.

I don't think I shall be purchasing.

Its like the fucking twilight zone or something. Castlevania getting 7's and this getting 8's.

Bah fuck it
With only a handful of reviews, Enslaved has a 82 gamerankings and Castlevania a 85. Both flawed but fun games, one or two steps away from being masterpieces. Here's hoping we see two more polished sequels in 2012!

That seems to be the way this gen has gone. First game is promising, second knocks it out of the park. See: Halo 3 -> Reach, Assassin's Creed 1 -> 2, Uncharted 1 -> 2.

Well im certainly happy to see the game getting good reviews. I really wanted it to be good. It has risen in amazon seller rank lately so thats nice. I just preordered. Be getting both this and Castlevania in one day!

was the gameplay in bioshock really that bad? /saving it for another time

I'm definitely picking this game up now. Control imprecision still really bothers me but I'll fight through it.

No, the gunplay was alright. Its the story that actually falters the more you think about it.

I am only on the 2nd chapter, but I can't believe how different it is to the demo part, which really didn't show in which direction the game will head. That is a shame, considering how awesome and interesting this journey seems. The acting so far is one of the best I have seen in any game. Well back to playing. :)

I enjoyed Uncharted 1 more than the sequel :/

For the record, I think Alan Wake was horrible. Especially the shitty shooting. Only cool part of the game was the rock concert. That was epic.

Well then. I can shelve most of what you type from now on when it concerns quality.

Yes I've been living under a rock and just found out about this game and watched the trailer.

This seems like a real gem. The story, atmosphere and gameplay seem like they come together to tell a real story that's kinda rare in gaming. And it's visually stunning. I'm really excited and now I find out there's a demo!

So bought.

Seems like both will be must plays.

Castlevania for value, Enslaved for story!?
I put more emphasis on story than production value; so in that sense it's not a tough choice for me. Games are too expensive now a days for me to go out and buy two of 'em on a whim without prioritizing.

It was a shitty game that had "pretty" graphics. OMG the FOG, greatest game ever. can't believe the developers spent so much time making a mediocre game.

That's good to hear. I have a question regarding the camera, is the demo good representation of camera movement throughout the game? Demo was giving me an awful headache.
