Epic: Xbox silence at GDC isn't the full picture

was this talked about before?

from nvidia's GDC conference.

I assume they just speculated 720's specs?

I think people are all leaking the same info. Others are just interpreting it differently. Anyone that wants to think the worst will translate "always-online" into "if you're offline, you cant play anymore". When in fact the leaked doc makes no such statement. So if we're going by the docs, we know that Kinect is required to operate the device (not a bad thing), installs are mandatory (not a bad thing since the leak also states games will be playable during install), and the console is capable of always being online (definitely not a bad thing).
Well yeah, and actually the doc said "Always on,Always connected",Always on means always powered on

Looks 1.23 vs 1.84 so seems NV using vgleaks rumor(even it's likely be true)for 720 and official data for PS4

EPIC = Microsoft

You really think that PS4 demo is the best the machine can do?

It's a pathetic try of attacking PS4.

If not, then the Capcom engine will be far superior after what we have seen...
There's is something more pathetic than that. Something like creating false news to attack anything that is not a Sony console. You did that on every other forum I have seen you and you have been banned every single time.

You're not going to last long here, fella and I'm glad for that.

30 seconds at the end of a news broadcast here and there or an article criticizing the launch for not showing the actual console isn't building any real perception of the PS4. And by public perception, I'm referring to the masses, not us. There will be no real public perception of it until right around launch (as long as Sony does its best to build awareness). People simply don't give a shit about stuff they can't buy. Steve Jobs knew that, which is why he put a huge emphasis on unveiling it and then immediately releasing it.
So if being at TV shows/news and having plenty articles in physical news papers doesn't build public awarenes then what does? I'd say that a pretty good chunk of the PS4 target consumers know there is a PS4 coming this fall.

Very curious to see what they've got cooking. Would love to talk about something more than rumors. I feel like all this waiting is just going to end up raising the expectation bar. Well, for those of us keeping up on this stuff anyway, probably not for the average consumer.

Knowing something may or may not be coming doesn't translate into there being a perception about it. And the way to build that perception is not by console reveals. It's marketing around the time of release. Getting it front and center on as many talk-shows, morning shows etc as possible. Nintendo had 2 years of letting the world know the Wii U was coming. Sony had a year with the Vita. Nintendo a year with 3DS. None sold. The idea that merely announcing or talking about something translates into anything with the general public is a farce. A painful farce.

Some people may suggest it actually played a role in the case of the PS2.

However, I agree that marketing around launch is more important not to mention pricing.

dam multiple forums?which other site?

I just need to know one thing:

Does it require an always online internet connection? (even for JRPGS)

If yes, than I'm out. Either way I was impressed with the PS4 after writing it off. The fact that they were the first to say that their system does not require an always online connection and that they are not blocking rentals, used games, etc... Has made PS4 a day one purchase.

I live in the mountains, when it snows their will be times where my internet connection is not up to snuff. I really wish they'd just make an official stance about these things already.

Sony blew their load to quickly. The PS4 presentation was boring as shit.

They blew their load LATE. PS3 was announced over a year before it released, and the conference was not as good as the PS4 announcement. It's just that they're not closer to launch like the 360 was (May announcement - November Release) and whatever the next xbox will be.

Chilean forums. He's from that country and so as I. Can't post screengrabs from his latest trollings because the account was deleted. Fucking deleted! He's THAT annoying.

Well...he's already posting the same thing on two threads (this and the UE4) thread now.
Account suicide watch in 3....

If we are expecting increased brute force numbers I feel confident those will not change. What will be known is how they engineered the entire box to be more productive than the numbers alone tell us and how that intersects with their services, games and plans for users.

Of course they had a private meeting! Epic having to defend Microsoft's silence is something that should not happen. (On a side note, do they keep making exclusive for Micro is a better question.)

Think its safe to say epic going with ms next gen again.

Bad news for ps4 ue4 support. epic always said their engine not done they ship a game....

Not sure why you've interpreted it that way.

Just because they've mentioned MS' silence as no big deal, that means Epic is siding with MS?

Long bow to draw.

We do have Ryse coming from Crytek. But there also hints at one (or more) of Microsoft's own studios will be using CryEngine.
There was a Kinect Fitness game from last year (the Nike one, I think?) that ran on CryEngine oddly enough.

Epic presented AT Playstation Meeting...

But as far as exclusives? Yeah it's more likely Epic is making a Durango exclusive game rather than a PS4 one. Maybe even likely.

i wonder who will do gears 4 though.pcf or main team?
Probably PCF, but TBH I wouldn't be surprised if MS is ordering up a new IP for Epic to thunder with again to be symbolic of the new gen the way Gears was last gen. MS seems to be very focused on adding to their IP stable right now, it just doesn't look that way from the past few years of 360.

I wouldn't call it speculation, but I think this is based on the specs that everyone knows rather than some unique inside knowledge that nVidia has

Toss Bethesda in that list.

Yep, forgot them.

I keep reiterating this in every thread I comment on about Microsoft's yet-to-be revealed box. They WILL overshadow Sony, it's in their nature. The are simply making sure they do not announce until the stage is set for a really loud announcement.

Microsoft will be far too scared to walk into next gen with Sony on even grounds. Why do that when you can secure the games that are guaranteed to give you a strong head-start?

That's true I guess. Specs don't sell consoles. Games do. Not sure why it would be in any of those companies best interest to tie themselves to one console, though. They're currently doing really well making multi-console games.

Scared? Now they are scared? How about smart. :)

Not sure if you're referring to my post, but I said would be scared. They would want to play it safe by securing blockbusters from third parties. Since they have the money for it, why not?

Like you said, it would be the smart way for doing this, especially since it already worked for them with 360 in that initial period, and now things are different since (you would think) Sony is releasing within the same timeframe.

- EA

- Activation

- Epic

At least two of these guys has an exclusive deal with Microsoft. That's my guess.

I'm go out on a limb and believe what a lot of people felt since February that, EA and Activision switched "support" of Sony and MS. Acti scoring a deal with Sony and EA wit hMS

If that were true shouldn't we have seen or heard something from Activision at Sony's PS4 reveal?

Well it shall be interesting to see what Microsoft has in store. They should keep in mind that Sony will also be making their own new announcements around e3. They better bring their A game or this holiday season could be very painful for them( that is if they are releasing this holiday season?)

So are you sugesting then that one side is making up bulshit ?

If so which side : the 10-20+ indie developers all throwing shit at MS
or Mark Rein. of epic possibly running damage control ?

which seems more likely?

What 10-20+ indie developers? We've had Jonathan Blow and Oddworld Inhabitants say they hadn't been approached by Microsoft about the next Xbox. That's "10-20+ indie developers" and "throwing shit" now? All the while ignoring the fact that, according to GDC's pre-conference survey, there are more developers developing for Durango than any other next gen console. Yeah, it's really hard to tell who's making things up here...

OMG, Kojima & Microsoft talking strategy for Snatcher reboot. For reals you guys.

That name is familiar. Are they the ones responsible for the incredibly mediocre Crackdown 2?

Yes, they were the ones responsible for the incredibly rushed Crackdown 2. It had only 8 months of full production, if I remember correctly. They also helped on a number of other projects.

By the way, State of Decay is also using CryEngine 3.

Not sure why you've interpreted it that way.

Long bow to draw.

Indeed, there have been so many leaps of logic lately.

I don't see Activision ending their relationship with Microsoft, there's no reason why both Activision and EA couldn't have exclusive deals with them, and why those same publishers couldn't also have exclusive deals with Sony (although that doesn't seem likely for EA at this point in time).
