I rarely watch and dont follow football but I am somehow in first place in my office pool.

Need a solid pick for the final including score. Someone tell me what to do.

Penalty was one thing, but ignoring a second ball in play when a player with the primary ball is running a meter away from it is just weird. How does that not affect play! Especially, considering couple of minutes later a second ball came in and ref blew whistle immediately.

England deserved to win, but what a farce.

I think people need to re-evaluate the word dive. There's not a single striker in the world who wouldn't have dropped to the floor like Sterling in that scenario.

Football is football.

Take this one from the 98 World Cup. Couldnt see anything wrong with it then. Still can't.

Poor Sol, two terrific game winning goals, two pathetic disallows.

But that's not to say it doesn't work in our favour, England should never got to the semi finals for Euro 96. Spain scored a perfect winner against us, but had it disallowed. Home advantage. As we found to our cost against Portugal a few years later.

Well hang on a bunch of ‘hooligans’ climbed on the roof of a London bus and broke the wing mirror off. Kick them out in the competition now.

Muppets saying we left Europe so shouldn’t be able to compete in the championships. There really are some thick twats about today.

Well, I've just seen the whole laser pointer thing, but that didn't stop him saving the pen. Still really shitty behaviour.

Sometimes our fans are an embarrassment. Booing the other teams national anthem is also really cringe. I wish our fans would show a little class and respect the opposition.
Yeah, pathetic from English supporters that is.

I mean not just the laser but the dive also.

I expect to see plenty of this sort of thing on Sunday...

ngl some England fans are the worse and really let us down at times, shining a laser pen is not acceptable behaviour and could see us disqualified and booing the oppositions national anthem is fucking cringe man, makes us look like absolute assholes.

Hell I don't like the players taking knee but applaud them anyway because of where we are in the tournament.

Gareth Southgate has done wonders to the England squad give him a pay rise and whatever else he wants. What an absolute legend.

You can tell the real football fans are coming out of the woodwork now to underline their firm anti-diving stance at this final by supporting Italy.

Italy.

Italy have no shame. It's win by whatever means necessary. They don't care if they're legitimately better or worse. They just care about the score - the appearance of things. Insecurity and frailty of the highest magnitude. No honor.

Realistically isn't that just every team?
I can't argue with that. I have just always found the way the Italian team goes about it to be particularly egregious and annoying though.

Italy are the inventors of simulation, well them and maybe a South American team or two.

Nowadays everyone has adopted it as part of the game. If you take a nudge you go down, just the way it is.
Reason enough to always pull for the opposing side, as far as I'm concerned. Ruined the game. (even though I still love it, lol)

I just think everyone tends to think of other teams as dishonest cheats whereas when their own players do it they're just "drawing a foul" or "being smart about how the game works." Or they acknowledge it may not have been playing fair exactly but "X are so much worse about it" I think any team in the tournament would take an ugly win or suspect penalty if it was offered to them. Do I wish it wasn't part of the game? Of course, it's pretty embarrassing. But the risk/reward balance for trying to get a penalty means players are always going to go for it.

Sterling got hit, most of the angles are difficult to notice but it was 100% a penalty. You can see his hamstring shaking after he got hit by the defender's knee.

Got video of that? I certainly didn't see a foul in any of the footage they showed during the broadcast. Wild decision.

The Harry Kane tackle was a clear penalty. And The yellow on Harry McGuire was also bs.

These plays happen all the time even with VAR. Its just part of the game.

There was a slight contact in one the angles, but he had already dived at that point, so it's not a penalty.

Yeah, but he commited a foul before that, which was called, so it would never be a penalty, since play was already stopped at that point.

Yes, it's a sickening part of the sport to me. But, in fairness, in all competitive endeavors, especially at high level play, most competitors will do whatever they can to gain an advantage - within or outside the rules.

There are the rare exception - players who don't (or very rarely) dive, but those guys often already have an advantage...they're very skilled, lol.

It turns out it was a fly that foulded him, the fly got a straight red for that.

You know, honestly I wish they'd have the eyes in the sky constantly looking for simulation. And if it's suspected, stop the game, use VAR and if it's an obvious no contact dive - no matter where it occurs on the pitch - that should be a straight red, no exceptions. Do that consistently and for long enough and get that shit out of the game. (And I hate VAR, but if we're going to use it, at least get something good from it.)

Exactly, its not the strongest penalty ever but there was contact, the 1st guy knocks him, the 2nd player especially doesn't even attempt to play the ball, just bundles into him with hand and then leg.

If that was England we'd be calling our defenders who did that clumsy useless donkey's, naive etc.

Also Denmark players were falling about like they had been shot at times.

The thing about people getting mad about the idea of England winning, this is the most likable England team I can remember. There's really no one you'd look at and think "what a prick." If nothing else it's the team with Dr. Marcus Rashford MBE.

Getting a booking for any fanzone / bar / pub in London for the final is next to impossible. Flat party it is instead then.
