More good news for NDS owners who are strategy enthusiasts. EU2 is widely regarded as one of the better turn based strat games on the PC. Hopefully it isn't dumbed down too much.

This game is really good and very, very involved. It isn't quite as addictive as Civilization, and it is certainly less well-suited to pick up & play sessions, but it's deeply rooted in history and a lot of fun if you get caught up in it.

Interesting.

This game is decent.

DS could be the home of many PC ports! :lol

RTSing and turn based games on the go.

I wouldn't mind seeing some RTS games on the DS. I just hope the games are based on the current versions of the series!

Actually, I played Europa Universalis, part 1... I have no idea what 2 is like, but it looks pretty similar.

RTS and Point-and-Click adventures are just waiting to be capitalized on with the DS. Retro PC publishers need to get with the porting already.

Starcraft, Command & Conquer, Warcraft, Diablo, any Sierra or Lucasarts adventure...the possiblities are endless.

I'd love to see that old school Indiana Jones adventure ported over.

Just porting random adventure games (kiddy ones, stupid ones, and classic ones alike) could yield the DS hundreds of titles.

I'm suprised they haven't ported a collection of PC puzzle games yet.

Bejeweled (sp?) could make a killing there.

They'd rather release them one at a time for $40.

DS is the xBox of the portable world ... :lol

This is great news.

If this has anywhere near the same degree of complexity as the PC/Mac version, it's a system seller for me.

This game rawks my bawks. Paradox rawks my bawks.

Hmm, a PSP version could be pretty cool, play one of my fav games in bed? ;) Pretty hard without a mouse though. :/

Now this is what I've been waiting to see. Lets hope we get more strategy games on the DS (and some more first person shooters while we're at it)

Touch screen and all that.

but if the action of the game takes place on a map screen, what are they going to put on the second screen? a map of the map screen?

Inventories, objectives, stats, illustrations, battle sequences, etc most likely, with the map being on the touch screen.

The lead developer has posted on Paradox's board.

Hello,

I'm the lead developer on this project, and I'm very much looking forward to bringing EU2 to mobile gamers. This is just the type of title needed to give the mobile entertainment industry a shot in the arm to accelerate and legitimize hardware development. Thusfar, there have only been a few mainstream PC titles successfully (both in gameplay and financially) ported to Pocket PC/Palm platforms, including Age of Empires, Sim City 2000 and Warlords II. Europa Universalis will be the crown jewel of this elite group.

The goal of this project is to create a fully functional single and multiplayer client (sorry, there simply isn't enough horsepower to host a multiplayer game yet) that will play in a nearly identical fashion to its desktop counterpart. The experienced EU2 player will be able to play the game with little or no instruction, and all of those great user mods (EEP, AGCEEP, etc) will work as well as they do now.

We'll initially be supporting Pocket PC and Palm OS (some, including the Tapwave Zodiac) devices, with Gizmondo and Nintendo DS versions following closely behind. The Pocket PC release will be supported on virtually every device ever created, at both QVGA (320x240) and VGA (640x480) resolutions. The Palm OS version will support the current 480x320 resolution. New hardware and higher resolutions will be supported as they are released. We'll also keep the patch releases updated to match new Paradox patches.

I invite you all to frequent the EU2 forum at our website (http://www.ppcstudios.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=28) or post your questions/comments here in the official EU2 forum. Those who would like to participate in testing of this great title are also invited to join our beta test program which can be found at http://www.ppcstudios.com/betaprgm.shtml.

I'd rock if this turns out to be decent. I like games with historical background and this looked pretty nice on PC.

RTS games will start to display the DS's potential for 2 screens.

I'd be comfortable with a Starcraft setup, using the L button to flip the 2 screens as needed for touch sensetivity ..... or holding the L button for 'tablet' mouse control on the top screen.

Ngage and NDS get a fair share of strategy and RPG games.
Ngage and NDS have an ARM9.
Ngage games are converted to NDS and vice versa.
Brazilian mobile phone developer develops for NDS.

* does not compute *

Looks cool, anyway.

If the PocketPC version will be compatible with user mods, that must mean that the developer is attempting to preserve as much of the original game's content as possible. I don't know if they'll pull it off, but I'm rooting for them.

The DS will be excellent for condensing the information you have to deal with in EU2's eight billion dialog windows.
