Yes I know Queens is diverse, thanks for the hot takes everybody.
The Burger King Kids Club approach to diversity just doesn't do it for me when you're getting adaptations of characters in name only that aren't gonna go anywhere. Ned Leeds gonna become the Hobgoblin? Flash Thompson gonna become Agent Venom with a drunk dad backstory? Nope. It's dead end casting.
Spectacular Spider-Man the cartoon remains this gold standard of a moving image adaptation of the webbed wonder because it did all this shit real good:

This isn't Queens. This is Staten Island, probably the northern end of it.
Because we simply can't change things up from the comics, dude
To be pedantic, unless my google fu is wrong none of them are middle eastern or Latin. also Tony aka Flash is Guatemalan
Until we know who Abraham Attah is playing in Homecoming, he's probably some water downed version of Miles for the MCU.
i mean the photo isn't great but referencing the breakfast club isn't a bad choice when the film is supposed to be in part a homage to john hughes filmsI doubt most kids are reading Entertainment Weekly anyway and they have complete control over their cover shoots. The reference is definitely the wrong choice but EW is always bad with their covers.
Glover is playing a time-travelling Miles.Miles won't be in it. They'll be keeping him in reserve.
Why couldn't this movie be about Miles in the first place?
I mean a bad choice for the intended audience. But that's hard to do when your readership is probably very different from both the people that will get the reference and the younger audience that just want to see Spider-Man.i mean the photo isn't great but referencing the breakfast club isn't a bad choice when the film is supposed to be in part a homage to john hughes films
The extended school cast feels incredibly forced and without even a hint of nuance. Reeks of Sony moreso than Marvel.

Promo shots like this are kinda fitting when you consider Spider-Man sports Pepsi colours.

I refuse to believe Slayven doesn't have We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service memorized by now
Ganke is a terrible name for a character with as much screen time as this renamed Ned is getting. Simple as that.
Current Miles also hangs out with Fabio Medina, but I don't think Sony or Marvel have the rights to use the GREATEST XMAN OF ALL TIME
Omg seriously? Now I'm actually going to read Miles. Goldballs is so much better than Miles.
Worked for Arrow and The Flash, Barry Allen Barry Allen would be boring as shitI just don't understand the benefit of using one characters name but using the characterization of another character.
Not that anyone cares about comic book Ned Leeds, but it's just such an odd decision.

Who is the intended audience? Isn't it the readers of the magazine?
The three of them are roommates. When he was first brought in, it felt like his purpose was mostly to provide Miles with a friend that understands the hero side.Omg seriously? Now I'm actually going to read Miles. Goldballs is so much better than Miles.
Actually, I change my mind, you're right. Looking at EW's media kit, their readership is 61% women, 39% men of a median age of 43(pretty young for a print mag). That's pretty in line to get the breakfast club reference and also have kids that want to see Spider-Man. I assumed their readership was closer to 50.
Ahh, cool. That makes sense. I knew that they were we're going for that era of films but I didn't know it was that spacific.I mean it's not just about EW. The director John Watts has specifically stated on multiple occasions that The Breakfast Club and other Hughes films are direct inspirations for this movie.

He got Ganked
yall really expecting a live action miles film in the foreseeable future?
That's what I'm missing. Why does it seem like people think one is in short order(other than the cartoon). This is spider-man for probably then next 8 years(assuming it and it's sequales do well).
I could actually see Miles coming in depending on how you take Amy Pascal's comments. Sony is possibly going to work with Marvel to bring Spiderman's stock up then take their ball and go with their own separated universe again.
If this was known and a part of the agreement, we could possibly see something happening to Peter that takes him from the MCU into Sony's Venom/Whatever Universe and resulting in something happening to Miles that has him taking up the mantle. This would allow both parties to have a Spiderman (not unlike Ultimate vs Amazing vs whatever other titles separate continuity in the books).
Could it be confusing to audiences? That's an argument that could be made but I think Marvel Studios could do well with Miles in their established universe and Sony would be happy to keep Peter.
My understanding is the trailer was mostly ment to say, hey, we're all in the same universe now and that Tony won't be in it as much as they made it seem. I have a good feeling about Homecoming. I think they are going pull it off.Yeah it's one of the reasons I'm really excited to see the stuff we haven't gotten in the trailers. The first one had very little school life stuff and that should be a big part of the movie.
I'll say a ninja turtles game.
Peter Parker seems forced in a Spider-man movie? Really?I'm agreeing with you for an entirely different reason: It looks like Miles should have been in the center of this picture, not Peter. He's the one who seems forced.
I want this movie to have more white people so I can complain about force whiteness.
How about Marvel keeps Peter and Sony can have Miles, start their own universe with him, whatever whateverCould it be confusing to audiences? Born and raised in queens, bruh this is a real representation. Throw in a Indian kid and it really hits home for me.
Miles is getting his own animated movie.old & busted...
I'd honestly rather Miles get his own cartoon
Miles is getting his own animated movie.
Between this, the MJ/Michelle situation and Betty Brant looking waaay more like the Gwen, I have to think all this funky naming has some purpose, whether it be narrative or some problems with rights. I can't believe it's all some weird coincidence.
Just checked yes by a 16 year old...Betty Brant is in this?
Yes better chance of success hence why I want Peter to stay with marvel where he has belonged all along. I want to see all the team up's I read growing up come to life on the screen. Peter has history, a deep and rich history, Miles does not. Parker belongs in the epic storylines. If Sony has trouble making SM work with Peter, I have no confidence they would make Miles work.
Sony with Peter and Marvel with Miles at least gives Sony a Peter that's been built up by the studio that's been making generally well received movies. Better chance at success.
