I mean if the 1:1:1:1:1 ratio is too "rigid", you could replace the asian or the white guy with another latino.

Latino spiderman!

Yes I know Queens is diverse, thanks for the hot takes everybody.

The Burger King Kids Club approach to diversity just doesn't do it for me when you're getting adaptations of characters in name only that aren't gonna go anywhere. Ned Leeds gonna become the Hobgoblin? Flash Thompson gonna become Agent Venom with a drunk dad backstory? Nope. It's dead end casting.

Spectacular Spider-Man the cartoon remains this gold standard of a moving image adaptation of the webbed wonder because it did all this shit real good:

It looks like your argument remains "needs more white people," judging by the pic you've posted.

Until we know who Abraham Attah is playing in Homecoming, he's probably some water downed version of Miles for the MCU.

Ugh, I really really hope not. If Miles is in this, it should be a cameo and he should be like four years old, max. Maybe Peter keeps falling debris from hitting the baby and his parents and the mom says "Miles are you okay??" or something.

I want Miles to get his due properly. As in, after Tom Holland has a good long run (10-15 years or so) of Spider-Man movies, he marries MJ, they have a daughter, and Miles takes over.

Then we get 15 years of Miles in high school/college/as an adult, coming of age, participating in the MCU (whatever that looks like by then). Maybe Peter shows up occasionally. Maybe Peter has a big company by then and he's like the Tony Stark figure to Miles. He can't do too much superheroing any more because he has a business to run, a family to raise, and a prosthetic leg, but he can give tech and guidance just like Tony did for him. Miles can be THE Marvel super hero for a good decade and a half. In a perfect world, that's how it all shakes out.

Then it's time... Mayday takes over from Miles.

They probably just didn't want to have to credit the original creator of the character. Either that or some out of touch exec decided at the last minute to re-name him for nostalgia points.

I doubt most kids are reading Entertainment Weekly anyway and they have complete control over their cover shoots. The reference is definitely the wrong choice but EW is always bad with their covers.
i mean the photo isn't great but referencing the breakfast club isn't a bad choice when the film is supposed to be in part a homage to john hughes films

Ned wasn't even Peter's buddy in the comics. He was just Betty's on again/ off again BF who gets killed and nobody cared.

It's just weird since he looks and fits the role of Ganke to a tee.

I mean a bad choice for the intended audience. But that's hard to do when your readership is probably very different from both the people that will get the reference and the younger audience that just want to see Spider-Man.

I like Miles a lot but if they want to do Parker, that's fine. It makes sense when trying to completely reestablish the franchise. I don't want a Miles in this as any character beyond the mentioned baby cameo. I was Miles to get his spotlight rather than just throw him in as knowing Parker.

The extended school cast feels incredibly forced and without even a hint of nuance. Reeks of Sony moreso than Marvel.

Promo shots like this are kinda fitting when you consider Spider-Man sports Pepsi colours.

What is the make up you would consider not forced? Or containing nuance? What is the casting formula for a diverse cast that isn't "forced"?

I just don't understand the benefit of using one characters name but using the characterization of another character.

Not that anyone cares about comic book Ned Leeds, but it's just such an odd decision.
Worked for Arrow and The Flash, Barry Allen Barry Allen would be boring as shit

I'm agreeing with you for an entirely different reason: It looks like Miles should have been in the center of this picture, not Peter. He's the one who seems forced.

Who is the intended audience? Isn't it the readers of the magazine?

Actually, I change my mind, you're right. Looking at EW's media kit, their readership is 61% women, 39% men of a median age of 43(pretty young for a print mag). That's pretty in line to get the breakfast club reference and also have kids that want to see Spider-Man. I assumed their readership was closer to 50.

Omg seriously? Now I'm actually going to read Miles. Goldballs is so much better than Miles.
The three of them are roommates. When he was first brought in, it felt like his purpose was mostly to provide Miles with a friend that understands the hero side.
Ganke outed Miles' identify to Fabio because he thought it would be good for him to be friends with anther hero
.

I mean it's not just about EW. The director John Watts has specifically stated on multiple occasions that The Breakfast Club and other Hughes films are direct inspirations for this movie.

Ahh, cool. That makes sense. I knew that they were we're going for that era of films but I didn't know it was that spacific.

Yeah it's one of the reasons I'm really excited to see the stuff we haven't gotten in the trailers. The first one had very little school life stuff and that should be a big part of the movie.

yall really expecting a live action miles film in the foreseeable future?

That's what I'm missing. Why does it seem like people think one is in short order(other than the cartoon). This is spider-man for probably then next 8 years(assuming it and it's sequales do well).

I could actually see Miles coming in depending on how you take Amy Pascal's comments. Sony is possibly going to work with Marvel to bring Spiderman's stock up then take their ball and go with their own separated universe again.

If this was known and a part of the agreement, we could possibly see something happening to Peter that takes him from the MCU into Sony's Venom/Whatever Universe and resulting in something happening to Miles that has him taking up the mantle. This would allow both parties to have a Spiderman (not unlike Ultimate vs Amazing vs whatever other titles separate continuity in the books).

Could it be confusing to audiences? That's an argument that could be made but I think Marvel Studios could do well with Miles in their established universe and Sony would be happy to keep Peter.

I'd be really happy to see a Miles movie. I know a lot of people think he's boring but I like the character himself. I just think they aren't giving him the right stories. Like the Spider-Gwen crossover,
it felt like they didn't know how to get to an ending so they just had his real dad show back up after several books of looking for him.
I just think he deserves better.

My understanding is the trailer was mostly ment to say, hey, we're all in the same universe now and that Tony won't be in it as much as they made it seem. I have a good feeling about Homecoming. I think they are going pull it off.

How about Marvel keeps Peter and Sony can have Miles, start their own universe with him, whatever whatever

If Sony has trouble making SM work with Peter, I have no confidence they would make Miles work.

Sony with Peter and Marvel with Miles at least gives Sony a Peter that's been built up by the studio that's been making generally well received movies. Better chance at success.

Between this, the MJ/Michelle situation and Betty Brant looking waaay more like the Gwen, I have to think all this funky naming has some purpose, whether it be narrative or some problems with rights. I can't believe it's all some weird coincidence.

Miles is getting his own animated movie.

I know, so I barely understand why people are sill sore about Peter being Spider-Man here although I get the sentiment; we're are getting Miles in his proper role as the main character in his own Spider-Man story.

I hate to be the "wait for it" guy, but Miles has made an amazing leap so far into mainstream popular culture. In a few more decades, I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes the true Spider-Man to many fans, maybe most

...Betty Brant is in this?

The phrase "forced diversity" is no longer a criticism. It's now a requirement because white people aren't going to let other kinds of people in on cool and fun things "naturally".

Yes better chance of success hence why I want Peter to stay with marvel where he has belonged all along. I want to see all the team up's I read growing up come to life on the screen. Peter has history, a deep and rich history, Miles does not. Parker belongs in the epic storylines.

I'm just a bitter Peter Parker fan, now that he is in the universe, something I thought would never happen, I want him to stay and grow up there. I don't care if MJ is not a red head, I'll get over Flash looking like someone Pete could beat up with out his powers, I'll get over them screwing up Ned completely, but I want Pete.

Edit: for more context I hated Tobey as Pete and I hated Garfield even more, I never got a Spidey movie that made me leave the theater happy. This I feel, is the one.

I have no issue with it. We all know it's Ganke but they're honoring the older comics by using a classic comic name instead of something only modern readers would know.

Plus this means we can get Ganke for Miles.
