Even Bendis is Confused By Peter's Best Friend in Spider-Man: Homecoming

I have no issue with it. We all know it's Ganke but they're honoring the older comics by using a classic comic name instead of something only modern readers would know.

Plus this means we can get Ganke for Miles.

You mean a character who's called Ganke despite the fact he'll bear no other relation to the character?

Why can't Asian Ned Leeds be the Hobgoblin?

It'd be kinda awkward when Spider-man gets the powers of Captain Universe and attempting to fix Hobgoblin's deformities, accidentally remaps Leed's face to look like Peter's.

Assuming they adapt a Marvel "What If".

Otherwise the only reason I'd be annoyed would be due to Ned Leeds basically getting Harry's story mapped onto him. Harry's story sucks.

I'm agreeing with you for an entirely different reason: It looks like Miles should have been in the center of this picture, not Peter. He's the one who seems forced.

In this instance yeah. If they had just done this film with miles I'd go see it but as it stands im skipping it. This isnt the Peter Parker movie I want.

... You guys do realize Miles didn't create "high school Spider-Man" right?

Between this, the MJ/Michelle situation and Betty Brant looking waaay more like the Gwen, I have to think all this funky naming has some purpose, whether it be narrative or some problems with rights. I can't believe it's all some weird coincidence.

I think is just to make fun from the situation. The Michelle thread here was something... very special.
And it happened twice.

Yes better chance of success hence why I want Peter to stay with marvel where he has belonged all along. I want to see all the team up's I read growing up come to life on the screen. Peter has history, a deep and rich history, Miles does not. Parker belongs in the epic storylines.

I'm just a bitter Peter Parker fan, now that he is in the universe, something I thought would never happen, I want him to stay and grow up there. I don't care if MJ is not a red head, I'll get over Flash looking like someone Pete could beat up with out his powers, I'll get over them screwing up Ned completely, but I want Pete.

Edit: for more context I hated Tobey as Pete and I hated Garfield even more, I never got a Spidey movie that made me leave the theater happy. This I feel, is the one.

I can understand the sentiment but some of what you're asking just isn't in the cards. Peter growing up in the MCU could technically be possible but not likely given how late he's joining. Soon after IW, we're most likely going to get a reset of some kind. At the very least a focus shift to new characters.

But even barring that, Sony's going to do whatever they want and they clearly want to take Peter back on their own. What I suggested is a best case scenario and even that suggestion isn't all that likely. Most likely, Marvel sets up Spidey and Sony takes him back outright, while Marvel just moves on and creates more money makers with lesser known characters (as they've been doing) and gets paid on every avenue except Sony's box office.

There's one reason Miles wasn't used over Peter: Peter Parker is one of the most recognizable names in comics. He puts butts in movie seats. True, previously obscure characters like the Guardians have found success, but using Peter is a guaranteed money maker, which Marvel needs to introduce Spidey so late in the cinematic universe.

Plus, Peter>>>Miles

Peter Parker seems forced in a Spider-man movie? Really?

This is why I said Peter Parker and not 'Spider-man'. My issue is regarding who Spider-man is in this movie. The actual character Peter Parker looks like he doesn't belong in that picture nor the movie when you consider his best friend and high school friends, and quite honestly it looks like this was supposed to be a Miles-centric cast that was remixed to fit into a Peter Parker movie. To sum it up Miles would be better.

Nobody cares about Miles.

Very curious to see what you mean by this.

I mean, we're already getting a Miles Morales Spider-Man film that's going to be in theaters

I do tell that to myself, because it's fucking awesome

Ned Leeds is such a nobody to be throwing in there. Like someone else said they killed him off a long time ago and no one gave a shit. If they want to jack miles' story just jack it and pay bendis his royalties.

I wouldn't mind if they skipped MJ as well, peter doesn't need to meet the love of his life in high school.

I'm a comic book fan so it's hard to disparage my favorite characters by acknowledging their getting a 3D animated feature that's coming to theaters

Hard to downplay that Miles is getting his own Spider-Man movie

Nah, it's pretty easy for a cartoon. I'm glad he is as well, and will be there day one. I'm also not going to sit here and consider it the same thing as a live action film property.

That's like saying the Star Wars Clone Wars film was as important as the main series.

I'm having a hard time understanding this part :/. I understand the whole Ganke thing, besides that... what? Could you elaborate more?

People getting mad that Peter Parker is Spider-Man instead of Miles makes me feel old. It wouldn't be so bad if they were backing Miguel (who is awesome).

On the other hand...stop trying to make Miles happen. Statistically, there is no Miles.

It's like saying Pixar films are just cartoons instead of full length animated features.

for a character that's only been around for 6 years & you say nobody cares about, Miles seems to be doing pretty good. You act like he's getting 5 minute web episodes

Marvel Studio's target and average moviegoer has likely never picked up a comic book, but knows who Peter Parker is.

Has Pixar made a licensed comic book film yet?

Is it not incredibly obvious that they're pulling from all of the High School eras?

Ditko (Suit, first villain is Vulture) Ultimate v1 (Hippie Aunt May, Tony is just standing in for Fury since Winter Soldier messed this up) Ultimate v2 (Ganke, Gifted School) and Spectacular (Liz Allen having anything significant to do at all ever.)

Lot of small thinking here in saying that this just somehow a Miles movie.

Err... a Clone Wars film to launch off the Cartoon Network TV Show, and a full blown Sony Animated movie is a completely different thing I feel like. The talent on the Miles Movie is amazing. I really think it'll be great... maybe even spectacular.

But but THE CAST! THE HIGH SCHOOL! Miles was robbed. Hey, maybe they'll give Peter Mile's venom blast? Wouldn't that be awesome. He could just Venom Blast every enemy he meets.

The argument is why isn't Miles in the MCU. I agree, the talent and potential of this film is greater than the norm, but the bar isn't set very high.

I just don't trust Sony with a Miles animated movie by themselves. Marvels not involved, right? I'll still be supporting it though.

Since the first news of it, I came to terms with them having a Ganke because I don't feel like a live action Miles movie is coming soon. BUT, when he does get a movie, Ganke needs to be there.

Is this true? Whose working on it? That's good to hear.

So uh...ya know...I love Miles because he's black, but uh...what's his personality? Really?

Slightly timid wisecracker struggling with the idea that there's darkness in him because of his dad's past. A guy who is always trying to be a peacemaker and quell internal conflict, and someone trying to live up to a legend.

Voice acting cast seems great. Donald Glover is a solid choice for Miles. Edit: I think I was wrong, has an official cast been announced for the movie?

And then we have Lord and Miller writing and directing. These are the guys behind Jump Street, the Lego Movie, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. I really enjoyed all of those movies, so I'm really excited for this.

The only negative is they were suppose to write and direct the flash movie, but they quit that for this. Why couldn't they do both :(?

Why should he be in the MCU? Peter is the better choice. He has better villains, a better cast (MJ, Gwen, Flash, JJ, Aunt May > Ganke, Mile's Parents), more stories to adapt from and is more well-known. People didn't like Amazing Spider-man, they want a good Spider-man & Peter Parker movie. And Marvel is delivering that.

And imagine it from Marvel's point of view. Let's say Sony decides to keep working with them for 10-20 years. Wouldn't it make sense to introduce Miles later on? A big part of WHO he is, is him trying to live up to Peter. I don't know. It makes sense for me to do Peter first, and then Miles later.

The MCU is hodge-podge of multiple storylines and character incarnations, after the weird Crimson Dynamo/Whiplash mix we saw in IM2, folks really shouldn't be surprised.

It's likely Sony will crash this franchise again and again, so by the time Miles and friends get a proper shot, this specific reboot and it's characters may only be remembered Slayven.

Thank god Bendis eventually timeskipped and they're probably going to draw from that, when Glover did 12 yr old Miles that shit was incredibly mismatched.

Sorry Sou Da, I was wrong about Donald Glover. No cast has been announced for the movie :/.

I think find some more information. It's being written by Phil & Lord like I said, and will have two directions.

The first is Bob Persichetti, this is his first directoral debut, but he's worked on many animated movies before. The other director is Peter Ramsey, who has directed Monsters vs Aliens (eh) & Rise of the Gaurdians, which I thought was a really solid movie.

I enjoyed those movies as well, That restores some confidence in it being good. They must believe in the project to leave it for an animated Miles movie. Who's writing Flash now?

Would you really want to have anything to do with the DCMU right now?

I mean, it's turning down a pretty iconic super hero.

I dunno this seems super easy to complain. They're not going to do a minority spiderman but still want to have diversity so they obviously put minorities around the white star. Ganke happens to be one that's from the comics and has a close relationship to Spiderman even if it's the wrong spiderman.

I would. He'd make an excellent internal parody/mirror for the DCEU Batman, with the right writers it would be brilliant.

That's my point. In our demo who like the books, it would be neat. I just don't think it would make much sense in the films marketing for Mass appeal.

Guys like Aquaman or Ant-Man you could have marketed as whoever really.

"Evil Batman" is an easy sell as long as you frame Bruce in there too. I'm not asking for a solo Valley movie here or Knightfall exactly lol, but I get your point. I just wanted to take it somewhere else.
