Every Revolution Game IGN Knows About

It may be that HAL is the "secret company", but it doesn't seem likely.

How do you make sense of that one? Why did Nintendo hire new staff and find a new building just to move HAL from Tokyo to Tokyo??

About the new IP complaints... Nintendo has TONS of them, and fans keep wanting more games from those existing IPs. That doesn't leave much freedom for Nintendo to come up with tons more IPs, no matter how big the company is. Just my thoughts on the subject.

Dark Samus being Metroid Prime
just bothers me and I refuse to accept it. Why do we consider Metroid Prime such a great being anyways? It was just a stupid mutated metroid.
When you beat the first section of Prime at the end, and then you go lower to fight that blue, disappearing creature, I consider that the phazon within her, as if something 'possessed her' and mutated her.

I think maybe there is something within the phazon far greater than Dark Samus and Metroid Prime themselves.
Dark Samus perhaps carries on some of the power of Metroid Prime
but that is a characteristic of the phazon, not
prime herself
. We need to remember that Dark Samus is essentially 100% phazon.

It doesn't matter if it bothers you, that's what happens. A lot of people don't like that Aerith dies. It still happens. You can see the
blue ghosty Prime while fighting the first one. The blue, disappearing creature is what takes the Phazon Suit and becomes Dark Samus. That blue, disappearing creature is the Metroid Prime Core Essence. It's probably looking for more phazon to survive, which the Phazon Suit caught its attention.

Beat both games with 100% item pickups and it's pretty obvious.

I'm actually down with the idea of not having Mario at launch. From what I can gather, the RevMote is best suited for first person perspective type games. I've seen the demo of what Mario with the RevMote might be like, but I'm not convinced that it's that simple; it will take a shitload of tuning to get it just right and I don't want them to rush it. Rev. should definitely launch with an FPS title as, I think, that this will be the rebirth of this genre on the consoles. The new control scheme will make it so much more accessible. After having played countless hours of GoldenEye in college and then countless hours of Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear and Desert Combat, I simply cannot go back to console FPS controls. So primitive, unintuitive, and limiting.

I want new IP but I want old IP like PilotWings even more. Nintendo64 launched with PW64
and I bought an import system in July 1996 before U.S. launch just to get my hands on that game early...Mario64 was just a bonus for me :)

I'm expecting Prime 3 in the launch window.

The game's been in development long enough and Nintendo knows the importance of Western appeal at launch.

But the core essence of Metroid Prime, could it be considered Metroid Prime? or just....the phazon-creature that took over her and mutated her, then escaping to the phazon suit.

Midway to support Revolution this year

Midway joins Revolution
CEO David Zucker reveals company is developing for Nintendo's upcoming console; game slated for release this year, details scarce.

LOS ANGELES--One of the phrases every Nintendo fan is anxious to hear is "We will have a Revolution title this year." Those exact words were spoken by the CEO of Midway Games, David Zucker, in a one-on-one conversation with GameSpot yesterday.

The console, which has been shrouded in secrecy since it was unveiled at May's E3 expo, hasn't had much in the way of announced games announced for it yet. For the Nintendo faithful, even the smallest tidbits of information on Revolution games are as valuable as gold.

While Zucker didn't give away the game's title, it might not be what gamers expect. Midway currently has four next-gen games announced: Unreal Tournament 2007, a TNA-licensed game, The Wheelman, and Stranglehold. Both the TNA game and The Wheelman aren't expected to hit stores until 2007, and Unreal Tournament 2007 has been confirmed for this year--only for the PC.

This leaves Stranglehold as the likely option for Midway's first Revolution game. Further evidence comes from the game's trailer shown during Midway's presentation last night. Previously expected to be released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, a bombshell was dropped at the trailer's end, when footage stated that the game would be coming to "ALL next-gen consoles." [Emphasis added.]

However, today, Midway reps told GameSpot that the aforementioned project was not Stranglehold, but "another project." The rep admitted that Stranglehold may come to the Revolution at a later date (after the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions), but no plans are set yet.

Expect more details about Midway's unnamed Revolution project at this year's E3.

Metroid Prime == Dark Samus == phazon creature

Who cares if you can't accept it. It isn't a big deal and you're thinking about it way too hard.

Oh man, PLEASE be UT2007. UT with the Freehand Controller would be a dream.

Oh WOW, YES! I could sell my PC then...

...well almost...

Dodging would be hard with an analogstick tho :/
Maybe Unreal Championship 2,5 with freehand swordfighting?

Unreal Tournament 2007 would seem like the most logical choice. And with that rumor about Rev. handling the unreal 3 engine (albeit scaled down), it seems like it could happen. Make it so, Midway!

Edit: And I'm glad Nintendo made Hal focus on much more important things than Smash, like the new Kirby game...

And I'm glad Nintendo made Hal focus on much more important things than Smash, like the new Kirby game...

Smash Bros Melee took an immense amount of resources out of HAL. HAL Labs is mainly comprised of about 75 designers (+ clerical), and Smash Bros used up 85% of those designers for the GameCube installment. Nintendo needed to start Smash Bros. as soon as the devkits were ready to go, and HAL was busy with Kirby GC and Pokemon Rangers at the least.

Sooo.. Nintendo did a pretty smart thing; build a new office for the development of Smash Rev. (probably DS too).

Couldn't they have built a new office a couple YEARS ago?

Few details regarding the online functionally are currently available, but Eguchi did suggest in an interview that he would like to make the game compatible with the DS in the same way that Animal Crossing for GameCube can be linked to a Game Boy Advance. Since there is no link cable accessory for DS or Revolution, the only way to do this would be via an online connection.
Err, wouldn't that be jumping through an unnecessary hoop when both devices have wifi capabilities? There's no need for a special cable.

F that. Fire Emblem got away with being true to it's roots, AW should get the same treatment.
Fire Emblem is Fire Emblem. Battalion Wars is not regular Wars. Mario Kart is not Super Mario Bros.

Super Mario Sunshine was launched 10 months after launch... did that wait make it a better game?
Unless the last 10 months were spent removing things and making the island natives uglier, yes.

Given that their Flux Capacitor Boy is still in development, more recently will have to do for now.

This is new to me:

Trauma Center Revolution
Developer: Atlus
Status: Exclusive
Source: Nintendo Power, IGN contacts

Anybody who owns a Nintendo DS will undoubtedly be very familiar with the Trauma Center franchise. The Atlus-developed series took full advantage of Nintendo's touch-screen handheld with a unique new idea that utilized the stylus. Players were challenged to become a doctor and operate on patients, performing such tasks as sewing organs up, removing artifacts from bodies, sanitizing wounds and more. Gamers could even take part in some tense open heart surgery. Of course, maneuvers were inputted with the stylus, which worked in conjunction with the touch screen. On Revolution, players will utilize the console's free-hand style controller for pixel-perfect accuracy on the operating table.

Nintendo Power hinted that a Revolution version of Trauma Center could be in development in a recent issue and IGN has confirmed that such a title is moving steadily forward. If all goes well, aspiring doctors everywhere may be able to get their hands dirty at E3 2006.

I said it's not likely, didn't I? It could be HAL, but it would make no sense whatsoever. Not to mention that HAL has given the new staff all the development materials from Melee, which would certainly be an odd move if they were developing the game.

IGN learned last year that publisher Ubisoft was underway with an ambitious first-person shooter-type game for Nintendo's new generation console. Few details about the project are known. Readers should expect very big things from this effort.

Does matt kind of hint that he has seen the ubisoft project or knows more about it?

Devs are getting kits. And I know of a half dozen major games -- not the ones announced by Nintendo, but real, tangible, working, playable things -- that are underway and ramping up. Everyone seems extremely enthusiastic about their projects, and based on what I know of a couple of them, it's easy to understand why.
I wouldn't be surprised.

Battalion Wars Online..interesting. I skipped the GCN one. Was it any good?
It was below average. Lots of potential and decent ideas, but fairly shoddy controls and a somewhat screwy camera really hurt the game.

Okay, Kirby's among my seven or so favorite series, but let's not get carried away here.

Anyone besides me want to see a 3D Kirby Canvas Curse for Revolution?

I definitely think Kirby has been moved to Revolution. I bet the controller will bring some interesting twists to the stacking gameplay shown already. Although I have no idea what those twists would be.

Pilotwings 3 was confirmed for "N5", IIRC.

It was rumoured to be in development for the then known as N5 before an E3 a couple of years ago. IGN started the rumour and then subsequently stated that the project had been cancelled. Other than a few interview awknowledgements that a pilotwings game would suit the Rev, nothing has been heard of a Rev version being in the works. I'd imagine a DS version would be more likely first, with precision touch movement and aiming.

IGN has heard rumblings that Crystal Chronicles for Revolution is highly advanced and may not only show up at E3 2006, but is a candidate for system launch.
Think about Revolution launch in Japan with games like Brain Training, Super Smash Bros. Rev, FF: CC, ...
Japan will be exploded.

Throw in Brain Training at launch as well and this thing will sell on NES levels.

:D

I dunno if Brain Training would be as successful on a console as it would be on a portable (particular one with a touchscreen) ... but the Brain Training games cost so little to make, that's its almost a no-lose scenario for Nintendo even if the console version only sells 1/5 of the DS versions.

I think with Revolution its key for Nintendo to have the library in "full swing" right at launch.

They need to look at their release schedule right now, especailly for Japan, and make sure they have good content right off the bat and then right into 2007. Essentially you want to start the Revolution where the DS got going 7-8 months in, because Rev is not going to get the benefit of the doubt that the DS (Nintendo handheld) will get.

Just a question concerning HAL Labs. Did they ever develop a real 3D game? I don't think they are capable of doing this.

I get the feeling Smash Bros. 3 and Metroid Prime 3 will both be 1st half 2007 titles.

It may not be a bad idea though ... games like that could cover the usual post-launch lull that almost always happens.

Hmm, now that you mention it, I don't think so.

Off the top of my head, Pokemon Snap and the Stadium games, Shigesato Itoi's No. 1 Bass Fishing, SimCity 64, and Kirby's Air Ride.

Most likely:

-Animal Crossing (the DS version has turned it into a premier series in Japan)
-New IP
-FF:CC
-Non Game (Nintendogs or Brain Training?)

I expect AC Rev for 2007, not 2006. One per year would hurt I think. AC is not a sports game or a mario party, it shouldn't be a one per year thing or people will get burned out FAST since the overal concept wont change much system to system.

Last month we learned that Midway had a FPS that used the Unreal Engine in development for "next gen sysyems." The Revolution was listed, along with the other two systems. I bet you this is the Revolution game Midway is talking about.
