Joining a conversation you are not part of only to make a comment that has nothing to do with anything was not worth it. This is not the first time I've gotten a weirdly personal response out of you, so please 'just chill out'.

Turning a page and reading a bunch of words isn't the gameplay I'm looking for.
You're saying it isn't clickbait? of course it is, the timing alone tells you thatYou disagreeing doesn't make it clickbait and a recent example makes for a good discussion starter. The fatigue has been building for years.
They have never hidden the fact that they have taken inspiration from Samurai movies, heck, its got modes dedicated to some of the best Samurai movie and anime creators (Korusawa, Miike and Watanabe)As long as Playstation is located in California, creativity will stay dead. This is the main problem currently.
I think only 2 games are about vengence currently.
Sure if we talk about movies. But there are much more interesting material from Japan about Samurai. The main problem is lack of imagination, they just copy paste some famous Samurai movies (infused with woke ideology obviously).
An unattractive woman for the main role, so for now it's just light but we don't know yet if there are others woke elements. The voice actress is a far-lef extremist, so why did SP pick here? They have never hidden the fact that they have taken inspiration from Samurai movies, heck, its got modes dedicated to some of the best Samurai movie and anime creators (Korusawa, Miike and Watanabe)
And what is this (obvious) woke ideology you talk of?
Unattractive? they modelled the character off the voice actress, that's VERY common these days. She is about as normal a Japanese looking character set in the 1600's as you can find, they aren't going to be plastered in make up, she is going to be covered in dirt, blood etc. Not only that but an unattractive woman in the game does not make it woke, that's a real reach. An unattractive woman for the main role, so for now it's just light but we don't know yet if there are others woke elements. Btw, pretty much every Zelda game is kill Gannon, and Mario has to save a princess. Are you tired of that yet IGN, you massive bellends?
I mean, they are 3rd person action games and if you are fed up of those then so be it, but I wouldn't say they are the same with a different skin at all, but third person story based action games is what people want from Sony mostly? they are certainly some of my favourite games (heck, I wish they'd make a new Uncharted). But I think thats why they have the likes of R&C and Astrobot to at least give some more variety.I'm very tired of 3rd person action games now. Sony is sitting on a ton of interesting IPs and does nothing with them.
Where is a new Wipeout or Killzone?
They have Naughty Dog, Guerrilla, Sucker Punch and Insomniac basically making the same game with a different setting/skin.
Bluepoint was turned to trash with GaaS and support roles, Media Molecule is still chasing the GaaS dream (they'll probably be shutdown). PD and San Diego are single IP sweatshops.
Housemarque is finishing the male version of Returnal.
It's all so boring...
That pretty much sums up Sonys games mostly. Bad ass boss women ruling the games and the games mostly open world walking sims.Damn, even IGN getting some common sense these days.
Though, they're probably talking about something other than men being written as inept dummies and women begrudgingly having to save them/show them what they are doing wrong..
Whatever it is, it's very far away, since their GAAS game was cancelled earlier this year.I mean, they are 3rd person action games and if you are fed up of those then so be it, but I wouldn't say they are the same with a different skin at all, but third person story based action games is what people want from Sony mostly? they are certainly some of my favourite games (heck, I wish they'd make a new Uncharted). I do however agree with you on both Killzone and Wipeout (and also Resistance) but those games simply do not sell as well as other games made by Sony's studios. I think 'maybe' Wipeout has run its course though at least until it can be done with full ray-tracing. But both Killzone and Resistance deserve either new games, full remakes or at the very least remasters.
Also, we don't know what Bluepoint is working on do we?
What's really killing storytelling is shortened attention spans of modern people imo. That and a complete lack of media literacy.Wonder if sensitivity proofing and inclusivity guidelines are homogenising story telling?![]()
Okay, so what are the alternative stories? It's easy to slag something off, but to not provide the alternative is just pure rage bait.To be fair, I think it's that we've come to expect Nintendo to prioritize pure gameplay, and Sony to prioritize big budget "movie games". If they're all going to have this third-person action adventure template with a lot of repeated mechanics and walking, then the base expects a focus on presentation and story.
Yep, exactly. Here's an example of what I'm really getting at. This is the author of this article.....

And here (timestamped) Simon also says Expedition 33 is one of his favorite games all-time.
How is Expedition 33 NOT similar in story "tone" to these other games he's saying he's tired of?
Spiderman 2 says yes.Wonder if sensitivity proofing and inclusivity guidelines are homogenising story telling?![]()
I believe they were working on two games, one was an original IP, the other was the GoW GAAS, but I guess we'll see...... eventuallyWhatever it is, it's very far away, since their GAAS game was cancelled earlier this year.
The funny thing is, it's easy to show that these people that say these things are lying right now. Your point about grief and revenge are perfect though. We've seen or heard about those stories for literally 1,000s of years!

The should ask that about Nintendo and their 30-40 years old IPs instead, around half of Sony new games are new IPs.Is it about time PS5 exclusives got some new ideas?

Sony was doing the same thing 15 years ago. What's the excuseIt's a little easier to do that when you spend 80 billion dollars buying publishers, don't you think?
Hum...what a fucking stretch. None of those games are similar. How can you look at TLOU2, Spider-Man 2 and DS2 and think "yeah...same story"?

Okay, so what are the alternative stories? It's easy to slag something off, but to not provide the alternative is just pure rage bait.
For one, I actually think the premise for the Horizon games is really solid. Certainly not used in any other Sony game I'm aware of. Open-world robot dinosaur hunting game at its core.
TLOU stories are more nuanced than we give them credit for. Linear action/horror shooting/stealth game at its core.
Spider-Man games basically follow the same kind of stories as the films. Open-world superhero game with combat, fun traversal and light puzzling at its core.
GOT is all about a samurai's honour, and GOY focuses on revenge. But then what else could you base an historical Japanese samurai game on? Save the princess? Time travel? Mutant sandwich's? Open-world combat heavy focussed game with exploration at its core.
The GOW games are loosely based on mythology. Linear combat/puzzle adventure games at their core.
None of those IPs play the same, look the same, or have the same stories.
The sequels don't have the same story as the first game. They just have the same story as each other.
Driveclub will never cease to impress me.
Still kicking ass 10+ years later:
Sony really fucked it up closing Evolution studios. They could have kept Gran Turismo as it's usual and make a Driveclub sequel more of a Forza Horizon and it would be selling like... Forza Horizon. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
RT's importance is overblown. Naughty Dog's games have better reflections without any RT. In many other ways game's quality got worse in recent years. How this game without RT looks amazing. Kinda surreal PS4 doing this.

For gaming, Expedition 33 is one of the most intelligently crafted games in the last 20 years. the story is absolutely sublime and throws some serious curveballs at you to fuck with your expectations. To compare it to any generic game is pretty disingenuous imo
The whole samarai thing needs a break across the board. I remember when had none though. Loving GoY but I'm good with two.Eh....I just wish their output cadence was better. The stories seem fine to me. I do think Sucker Punch needs to move on from Japan after GoY.
Absolutely. Something that captures the spaghetti westerns would be fantastic. I found the actual gameplay portion of RDR2 not very good.I would love a good Western. Red Dead's pacing and focus are awful.
storytelling is almost non existent in those games, Sony are burning you out with their shit stories, they have been for years nowIGN:
