EVO 2012 Thread 2 Because one thread wasnt enough to hold all the hype and the salt

UMVC3 was so hype, so was KoF.

I have to admit it though the Champ win did get me pretty salty, mainly because he is so smug about it, and imho disrespectful wearing his glasses lol. Then he cries about it.

Definitely salty

I didn't get a chance to post last night because I was dead tired, but damn this evo was hype.

The only thing I didn't like was the AE finals. Some of the players just looked way to tired. I'm not sure if it's their fault for staying up late at night playing more games with their friends or the fact that the last day is a gauntlet of top 8's.

On Saturday all the players that were making it to top 8 had played probably over 20 matches to get there and are in full beast mode by that point. Then they play another game all the next day or no game at all. The final day is pretty much all finals so I'm sure most of them want to watch finals instead of practicing. By the time AE finals started up the players were probably exhausted and don't even have a good warm up.

Hype rankings
1.KOF
2.Marvel
3.MK
4.Soul Calibur 5
5.SF4 AE

Outstanding.

Ricky Ortiz liked the game for a while after the game came out, if his Twitter posts were anything to go by.

Knowing things about players by their Twitter posts makes me feel disappointed in myself.
the game was fun to play in early stages. still is fun but they need to fix some of the problems. the game is boring to watch though, and i don't see that changing at all in the future. its just the way the game was built with a lot of strong defensive options combined with a lot of safe offensive options.

honestly, i think they tried to please a lot of the capcom complainers out there from previous games but it just ended up all wrong. no more disc based updates, but then they give us dlc bs; no more strong comeback mechanics, but then now its all timeouts; no vortex or unblockables, but now theres really very few offensive options to open people up.

really, i'm very sad that you can't really create unblockables from switch cancel and cross rush setups. i mean, you have to spend 1-3 to bars and all you can get out of it is a frame trap or an ambigious crossup. its not like the opponent can't spend 1 bar for alpha counter to get out of the unblockable.

other than that. the two things that need fixing are supers and pandora. "comeback" mechanics aren't a bad thing if done right imo.

Not even just against fchamp but chrisg over came a lot of his demons to get there. Beat the Modok player, beat Wong who beat him at CEO and winter brawl, beat combofiend who beat him at ect and finally beat flocke who put him in losers bracket at evo. He was playing the best marvel he has ever played but his best was just 1% under fchamps best.

Yea that Modok win was huge from him. Normally I would call Chris G out being down 0-2, but he manage to come back 3-2 and that gave him a huge confidence boost.

Just got done watching Super Turbo. GODDAMN that was hype as FUCK. Best top 8 in EVO, fantastic stuff. ST really is eternal, just pure unadulterated fighting. We need more fighters without bullshit comeback mechanics.

This really was a great EVO, only the AE finals disappointed.

While we didn't use the term "comeback mechanics" back in the day, ST's introduction of Super Combos riled up certain parts of the community in the same way that people complain about Ultras and X-Factors. It just shows that after enough time the stigma goes away.

Hate to be that guy, but could anyone post as many of the archives as can be had?

I'm fairly certain I've covered everything.

I suppose. Personally I don't mind comeback mechanics much but it was great seeing something different like Super Turbo in all its glory. And how great were the Vega screams from the audience? hahahah

I hope you're joking about that third point, the final set was hardly free.

I'm not sure why people were surprised Chris G was on par with champ either, did they miss CEO? Have they even been paying attention?

Yeah, it's a bit of an exaggeration.

Chris G is my favorite player to watch. He's pretty much the only reason why I watch Marvel. Not sure if that line was directed towards me or just a general statement. I was hoping Champ would have took WBF serious so that GF could have been Chris G vs Champ.
