EVO 2017 Player's Choice Game - [Ended] UMVC3 wins #SometimesEvilWins

Hopefully FChamp streaming and boosting from others gets Marvel back at #1. Marvel or KI (though KI is trailing). If Pokken wins I hope it gets relegated to small stream set-ups instead of taking up the main stage (which would delay all other Semi-Finals like last year).

I really hope Pokken doesn't make it in. I tried watching a bit of it last year and it was perhaps the most boring game I've ever seen played competitively.

I fixed the Player's Choice list

I wonder what would've happen if Brawl was in the list lol.

Anyways, I like playing Pokken, but not watching it. So I'm going to hope for ARMS, KI or Marvel. I think I should give a tiny donation to all three, it's for a good cause after all.

Probably woul've gotten in but brawl and smash 4 is too similar, thouvh i think 4 is more refined.

Kinda hoping Windjammers or ARMS takes it. I'd be okay with ST, but not too keen on it. Personally just not really fan of UMVC3, KI, MK, or even Skullgirls. But I'd be pretty okay with SG just based on the fact on how much work Mike Z and Lab Zero put into that game and listen to fan feedback. Nidhogg is pretty fun but I don't know if I buy into a competitive scene of it from what I've played, but I could be wrong.

Though, I love the EVO2017 line up so the 3rd game doesn't matter too much to me. Aside from Injustice 2 and Smash, the line up is every game I wanted to see.

Man I'm really confused, how is Pokken doing so well? Are there really that many fans of the game? I mean shit it's a Wii U game it can't be purely off of the fanbase. Not to mention this is EVO. Wouldn't the only people paying attention to this charity poll be huge fighting gamers? Pokken is kinda middling compared to competent fighters

Okay. Now I think Pokken might win. Either Pokémon fans are loaded or it's the combination of Nintendo fans/Pokémon fans/Pokken community that's driving the game to Evo.

What happen to MKX scene does no one really care?

The NRS community doesn't seem to be big enough to support two games, which is weird because there's plenty of differences between MK and Injustice.

Or maybe they just don't want to see SonicFox win two games at EVO.

Some of the Smash community is backing the game up, as shown by SmashBoard's Twitter account.

I'm eating major crow with Pokken right now lmao, what is even happening!? I guess I shouldn't be surprised that there's some very kind, generous souls in the Pokémon community that are making bank but goddamn.

To be fair, the Pokémon community kinda has to make bank between the almost-yearly releases, PokéBank subscription, & the dozens of systems they buy (with one more $300 console on the way). I'm actually kinda jealous that I don't make that much bank (I skipped out on Sun/Moon when Stars was leaked so I could save money).

I've played all Smash Bros, still doesn't change the fact that it is 16 years old and other games have been booted once a sequel came out. It's over stayed it's welcome. NOBODY would say that it is superior to a game like 3rd strike and 3rd strike isn't there.
3S is awful and wouldn't pull a tenth of the people entering melee

Once again, after Brawl dropped (which is considered the worst in the franchise by a good number of competitive Smashers), it split the Smash community in two. Now we have two almost-completely different games with two communities that have very little overlap.

It's because very few of the major TOs out there run Pokken. You don't see it if it's not run at the events you watch.

Any particular reason for this? Is it just the logistics of needing two Wii Us for every match, or do the TOs see the game as dead and it leads to a self-fulfilling prophecy?

Because it's been dead on Twitch for the longest time, I know that much.

Somebody needs to stop Reggie from making hundreds of small anonymous donations to Pokken
If anything, Reggie would be donating to ARMS. The Pokémon Company handled most of Pokkén Tournament's competitive presence (they typically do their own thing, for better or worse, with some input from Nintendo).

Damn, you're right lmao. They literally have to make bank to afford Bank. (I say, as I remember that I'm clearly Pokémon fan unable to afford anything)

Now that's the real reason people are voting....

I imagine the logistics of needing two Wii Us and TVs for each unit is the a big part of it. That's a lot of extra equipment that takes up space since you can't do two player locally via split screen. I one person has to play on the gamepad.

If there is a Switch port then the logistics would naturally resolve itself. It might actually resolve some issues that Smash 4 might have, if it gets a port, by allowing more setups due to not needing as much space for WIi U units and hell not even TVs since you are likely going to be able to do two players with each player having their screen. Might make pools run a lot quicker that way.

There are any number of reasons for it. Logistics is one factor, not wanting to do the leg work to get players to come and helping to make a community out of them, wanting to go for the established groups for monetary reasons, etc.

It's one of the problems I have with James Chens' usual spiel every year. In this day and age, stream time is a huge factor in creating an atmosphere for players to continue to want to play a game. At least, that's before it reaches a size that becomes fairly self-sustaining. The only way folks get exposed is if games are given some exposure. Congregating around sites or forums focused on a specific game is very rare now and a lot of buzz is focused through the tournament circuit. So what's shown and played at events is seen as the norm.
