Ugh. Holy shit. If its spreading, and the fumes are spreading as well what will the rescue situation be..

Lets hope it's not true.

Seems conflicting information, to be sure.

Some news outlets reporting 60 dead in West explosion; others say 60 being treated and no deaths.

The fire started in an anhydrous ammonia tank and spread to the building, authorities said.

The resulting explosion spread the fire to the Middle School and to a nearby nursing home.

The blast was felt throughout the city and as far away as Hillsboro, Whitney and Blum.

Most of the injuries resulted from debris being thrown from the blast, glass, doors and other shrapnel, authorities said.

Jesus fuck, I wonder how far the wind will carry those fumes. I know it won't reach san antonio but damn its a scary thought. Stay strong and safe fellow Texan-Gaf

Confirmed fatalities so far seem to be 5 firefighters and 1 police officer

Not sure how many firefighters and police west has but that town is very small and that likely would most most if not all of the first responders. Also generally small towns like west only have volunteer firefighters.

Yeesh, watching this on the news right now. It looks crazy.

No wonder I felt a mini earthquake here in Arlington earlier and I'm about 70 miles away from that area. @__________@

Hopefully the emergency crews can get the people out to safety, there's also a thunderstorm coming in a couple of hours so that's another problem that they might be encountering.

I don't know if the news people are just using "triage" as a broad term, but if that is actually what they are setting up, that's pretty bad. Some people get wheeled in and get red or black

RIP. Man that sucks. A fully involved fire that size, unless it just broke out, would probably have firefighters, EMS and police from probably every surrounding station and county. I'm shuddering at the thought of how many rescue personnel might have been there when that blew. I mean if the fire had just touched off, a lot of them would have been still responding. But if it had been going for as little as 15 to 30 minutes there's no telling how many first-responders could have been there.

It's not uncommon where I live if there's a big fire or barn fire or something that you might have every company in the county plus support units from other counties and mutual-aid assistance from neighboring states and that's just for a big barn or house fire.

Man, this is horrible.

West is a town of 2,700. I imagine it's volunteer firefighters and maybe 1-2 officers.

Also, it's the hometown of MLB player Scott Podsednik.

Jeezee Pete's that's a big explosion.

This has just been a completely up and down week.

Every house within 4 blocks of the explosion is destroyed, nursing home collapsed, school on fire, 5 dead, 60 injured.

No way the report of 60 dead can be true so early after the explosion. They can't declare that many people dead so soon. Wounded or treated is one thing, declaring them dead is not something that is done hastily.

holy fuck I wasn't expecting it to blow and especially not such a huge fucking explosion

Just a guess, but seeing how big the explosion was, it's probably safe to assume anyone in the plant died
