Blizzrad of AcidMods has managed to connect a DualShock controller through a 25 pin connector mounted in the right side of the PSP. The DualShock can control all of the PSP buttons (except for the volume and backilght) and can turn the PSP on and off.

Here is an external DualShock controller which interfaces through a single 25 pin connector mounted in the right side of the PSP.

The DualShock controls all of the PSP buttons (except for the volume and backilght) and can turn the PSP on and off. The right Analog Stick has been modified to copy the face buttons (like the razor nub), and L2 and R2 have been mapped to the left and right D-pad buttons (primarily for use in PS1 games, but useful in others as well). The analog On/Off button is used to power the PSP on and off, and the R3 button performs the Home function. All other buttons are self explanatory.

i am impressed that they got this to work, wow.
Looks to work really really well.

Thats pretty awesome.

Its the only complaint I have about my PSP, my thumbs sometimes get a bit cramped from the analog stick.

Couldn't they somehow use the usb port on top and route it that way?

If you ask me this should be a feature on the next PSP model.. that or a second analog stick.

Why did they put L2 and R2 to the d-pad? Couldn't they map them to the real L2 and R2 on the controller?

They should just allow you to plug your PSP to your PS3 through USB and have your PSP act as a UMD reader while the PS3 upscales the games and you can play with your PS3 controller and remap buttons how you want. I would play a lot more MGO if they did that.

and another PSP model with a second nub (or actual analogs similar to the Zodiacs) would also be great. They just need a firmware update that allows you to map the right nub to whatever you want (face buttons, left analog, dpad) and it would be perfect. Games that come out after its release can just support both styles of controls.

PS1 emulation has a setting where the 2 buttons are mapped to the Dpad, so this is a way to play PS1 games on your PSP with the controller and not worry about control problems. The biggest problem is that you cant play with the Dpad and those buttons anymore. I also think it has to do with camera controls somewhat. Games like MGSPO have camera control to the dpad, so you will at least be able to look left and right with those shoulder buttons. Ratcher and Clank also maps the dpad to side stepping.

i've always wished they'd let you plug your dualshock 3 or sixaxis into the PSP via a mini-usb <> mini-usb cable...

Blutooh enabled so we can just use our current SIXAXIS would be nice...
