So, this episode was really weird because I honestly didn't expect all that ramp up to lead to what is essentially a
farce climax
. In a way, it fits perfectly with what they've been saying about the Shimagamo family in particular at the end of every episode, in terms of how things always go for them, so maybe I shouldn't be surprised.

Given my earlier statement of Skyler-esque hatred for Benten, I'm not quite sure how I feel about how the show resolved her story either. Essentially,
she was just waiting for Akadama to basically come back to being his old self in order to have a place to go back to again
, which... I guess is fine? I dunno, I feel like she's as culpable as the Ebisugawas and nothing really happens to her.

How everything wraps up is also kind of weird as well, in as much as
almost nothing really changes... other than with the remnants of the last generation gone, with Soun essentially on a "permanent trip", there's this idea that life just moves on. Presumably the Friday Fellows will eat one of them again, and there may be another feud between the families, but that's just how it is.

Ending with Yasaburo essentially just asking for
good things to happen to everyone just points to that forward-looking ending, I suppose. Rather than linger on the past, we get a cut to some future where everyone is celebrating at the temple and just move on. Hell, even the human dude who loves to eat just shrugs his shoulders and is okay with not being in the Friday Fellows anymore.

I think I'll probably need some time to actually think about how I feel about the series as a whole. In a way, I should have known that the metaplot
wasn't going to be the important or even the central aspect of the show
, and trying to frame the series in that context probably changes how I feel about it - especially the last four or so episodes.

Kill la Kill episode one pre-screening impressions:

These are just a few, but impressions as a whole seem overwhelmingly positive; I don't think I've read a single review that isn't glowing. Of course, there is always the disclaimer that if you went to see the premiere you're obviously a Gurren-Lagann fan; that definitely means you have a taste for this sort of cartoon...

Don't do this to me.

My body can't handle the hype much longer.

Heartcatch Re-AirCure 6

Wait why is there a Motto! Ojamajo Doremi picture here!? For good reason, these two are both photoporn geeks seperated by age and universe (and the Heartcatch one is cuter), both of them took embarrassing shots of others and whatnot. However, their episodes play out differently at the very least. Also, because I don't have the proper # image that I wanted.

I think with whatsherface that I don't remember her name in Doremi,
She constantly took photos to make others look bad on top of never having photos of herself, which made her upset. On top of having her film thrown in water. Not to mention people enjoyed them after the trip.

Here, while the reason why she transformed was because her photos lacked love, it wasn't exactly beaten over the head as much considering she was on the hunt for Precures. But we did see Erika's dad!

photo 2 - Lewd photos of other
girls!?
Erika isn't amused!

YES, Heart Seeds do many things, like restoring the Tree,
transformation device for Cure Moonlight
, and uhhh.... That's it... I think it might have did some defense boost or something, I don't remember, but I don't think they actually do a lot. Oh yeah, that's a new mechanic shown here. It also give us a show in Cure Blossom's unorthodox fighting style since since she used a butt punch.

Many faces of Cure Marine while she was frozen. Anyway, Blossom was pretty awesome here despite her lackluster start. Some nice animation for the most part as well during the violence.

Infinite Stratos: 09

Beach episode ahoy! Fanservice and a little plot movement. Next episode looks like it'll be pushing forward plot-wise as well.
You should post Chifuyu-nee teasing her bro siscon brother. :p

All that's left is the 108 episodes, a few movies, and the spinoff series to go!
I think I just need to get over how the space battles have nothing to do with battles taking place in space. lol
But, if I'm going deep cuts, I suppose I should finish Utena first at some point.

InuYasha 1-26 Dub

So I've been marathoning this slowly to catch up with Toonami's airing (currently at episode 95 lol) but I figure now that I'm all caught up on Phi Brain I can dive head first into this. I still have plans to check out infinite stratos and freezing but they can wait.

So far I've really enjoyed InuYasha, this is my first time checking out the series and it's clicked really well so far. While all the characters aren't always useful in combat they each add to the story and party dynamics in a way that feels natural. I'm not really sure who my favorite character is so far, I just collectively enjoy the whole traveling group equally.

Sora no Woto is the greatest, always nice to see a new watcher.

Gonna be trying to savor it for now. Running on fumes for cute girls doing cute things

Love Lab - 13

All the Love Labs are best girls, but some are bester than others at certain things. Kinda impressed at how solid all the characters turned out to be, which isn't what I'd expect from a 4-koma adaptation. Even the boys - those abominable boys - turned out to be charming and perfectly likable.

If it wasn't for the flashback cameo by her family, you gotta stretch for Suzu being a best. She got pretty sidelined for the second half of the season :|

Seeing AIJOU YUUJOU mentioned again makes me wonder what the absolute worst choice of an ending song has been that clashes (non-intentionally) with a show's tone.

InuYasha 27

Great team battle all the way around, Sango gets to show off her stuff to InuYasha and co and she finally begins to trust him. Even Kagome got in on the action which was pretty fun.

I feel like I know a ton of these, but then I remember that some shows chose to skip either the OP or ED to keep the mood in check. Most recently in Uchouten Kazoku when hearing OMOSHIROOOOOOOOOOO- would kill a good number of beginning moments.

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S 24
Well, that was pretty badass. Ended up watching this episode twice. It wasn't the best arc this season, but it was still fun and enjoyable.
And now I'm rewatching Endymion for the x-hundredth time because of the space scene

Bring on the Season 3s (Index and Railgun)!

The song works for most of the episodes. It's just the one big cliffhanger where it just breaks the show. lol
But even then, I expect in Japan, there's probably a commercial between the end of the episode and the credits... just for extra milkage.

Railgun S fin
I guess I felt the need to finish this, even though I'm tired of the cartoonishly evil villain with the psycho sneer.

Anyway, 5 god damn songs in this episode:
GuVkCjyl.jpg

I guess it's easier than actually scoring the episode I suppose. And you can move singles. lol

But you know, as silly as the villains turned out to be, I'm actually glad that they developed Shinobu the random science girl.
83Jqyrvl.jpg

I don't think it's a spoiler to say that she just disappears in the manga never to be heard from again. And, the end result is the same of course, but at least now there's both an arc to her character and an explanation of where she went after essentially blowing the whole Accelerator project open.

Also, even though they totally dropped the mind control girl out of the story after episode one, they managed to shoehorn her into this anime-original arc as well:
ZTFCgnTl.jpg

So, both as a "READ THE MANGO" thing and as a way to actually use her in this original arc, I guess that's clever.

I still feel that the first season was better... if only because the whole first arc was just so tedious. At least the second arc paid off a lot of aspects developed there (martyr-Misaka and science girl Shinobu specifically), so it theoretically comes together as a complete season.

Finally, dresden showing me that random page from the manga about mind control girl makes me hope that they do a third season just for the larfs. lol

InuYasha 28 Dub

Naturally in a Miroku focused episode InuYasha would receive a power up. At least when Miroku recovered he kept his eyes on the prize on Sango's backside lol.

Well, new season thread means I gotta make a list of shows and my intention to watch them =D

BACKLOG TIER (this tier has only shrunk by two shows since the start of last season. MUST TRY HARDER)
Yes! Precure 5 GoGo! ←watching now
Fresh Precure! (the Precure journey continues)
Heartcatch Precure! (someday I will get this far, and it will be a glorious day)
Suite Precure♪ (someday I will get this far, and nobody will care)
Smile Precure! (someday I will get this far, and I will become addicted to the OP)
DokiDoki! Precure (by the time I get this far, it will almost certainly be over)
Hidamari Sketch ←STILL not actually watching now because of Precure addiction
Hidamari Sketch x 365 (yunoyunoyunoyuno)
Hidamari Sketch x Hoshimittsu (yunooooo)
Hidamari Sketch x Honeycomb (yuno)
K-ON!! (I should probably actually break up the Precure with some of this stuff but I don't think it's going to happen)
End of Evangelion (starting to think I'm never actually going to get around to this)

CONTINUING FROM LAST SEASON TIER
Kitakubu Katsudou Kiroku (inbefore this runs over into the Winter season lol)
Monogatari SS (all shinobu all the time)
Hunter x Hunter (shit is already real, and it's only going to get realer)

---

ALL MY HYPE TIER
Kill la Kill (THIS IS THE CLEAVAGE THAT WILL PIERCE THE HEAVENS)
Kyoukai no Kanata (KyoAni doing action? Count me in! Also the girl is cute. Also Suzuki Tatsuhisa.)

SECRET BEST SHOW OF THE SEASON CANDIDATE
Non Non Biyori (Compared to last season, there seems to be a disturbing lack of cute-girls-doing-cute-things shows this season. However, I can deal with that because this one looks so utterly perfect.)

OPTIMISTIC TIER
Galileidonna (wait there are robots in this?)
Kyousougiga (because people are hyping this up or something)
Coppelion (aside from GoHands filters, I'm not sure what to expect from this...but for some reason it gives me good feeling)
Nagi no Asu Kara (underwater villages, huh? Haru from Free! wishes he lived in this world)
Golden Time (Chinami is probably best girl)
Log Horizon (so this is basically SAO lite, right?)
pupa (why do we still not even know when this is starting)

OH BOY HERE WE GO AGAIN TIER
Valvrave S2 (oh boy, here we go again)

COULD BE GOOD TIER
Samurai Flamenco (well, I enjoyed Tiger and Bunny)
Gingitsune (something about this isn't really clicking with me, but maybe it will when I watch the actual show)
BlazBlue: Alter Memory (I'm heavily invested in the BlazBlue franchise in general, so no way am I missing this. Setting my quality expectations for the show itself fairly low, though)
Strike The Blood (Hosoya Yoshimasa is my husbando)
Machine-Doll wa Kizutsukanai (I'm not convinced by cajun's Yaya hype, but this looks interesting nonetheless)
Tesagure! Bukatsu-mono (I haven't tried one of these lol-MMD shows before, time to fix that)
Meganebu! :)DTL as fuck, yes, but I like the sense of energy this seems to have)
Yowamushi Pedal (I don't even know)
YuuShibu (looks suspiciously like an inferior clone of Maou-sama!, but I'm sure it will be fun at least)
Outbreak Company (the premise is hilarious)
NouCome (poor Kadokawa)
Tokyo Ravens (my god there are so many LN adaptations this season)

PRIME CANDIDATES FOR DROPPING TIER
Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio (this is going to suck, isn't it)
Walkure Romanze (actually I should probably drop this one right now)

---

GUYS, SHOULD I WATCH THIS? TIER
Yozakura Quartet -Hana no Uta- (I never watched the original series, but apparently this is a reboot of some kind? What kind of reboot? Is it sensible to jump in here? I feel lost...)

NOT WATCHING BECAUSE OF REASONS TIER
Little Busters! Refrain (Didn't watch the first season. I do intend to get into this series at some point, but through the game, not the anime.)
White Album 2 (Again, didn't watch the original. Doesn't look that interesting anyway.)
Infinite Stratos 2 (Didn't watch the original)
Aikatsu! 2 (I think there may be a pattern here)
Freezing Vibration (Look can we just assume that everything in this tier is a sequel to something I haven't seen?)
Phi Brain S3 (Actually I did see the first episode of the first season of this! Then I dropped it.)

LOLNO TIER
Diabolik Lovers (I'm actually kind of tempted to check this out after seeing DTL's GIFs, but...no. No, I will resist.)
Magi S2 (I've had more than enough of this disappointing adaptation)
Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai! (I have no interest in excessive :chet, or in wrestling. And combining these elements with idol culture just sounds ridiculous.)
Hajime no Ippo: Rising (lol I wouldn't watch an anime about boxing even if it wasn't a sequel)
Kuroko no Basket 2 (Sports anime aren't generally my thing. Neither are DTL anime. Plus, you know, sequel.)
Daiya no A (lol baseball)

This won't be the "worst" choice, but having this kick in after a typically angsty cliffhanger in Escaflowne always felt somewhat incongruous.

Lol yeah Escaflowne had a pretty unusual ending theme too.
I do think its ok to skip an ED or OP if the situational mood calls for it.

Watching angel beats. This show is awesome! On episode 6. awesome OP and ED.

The music is one of the show's strong suits.

Aiko, I know you want your parents to get back together and all, but I just don't see it happening. Even though I guess they can talk now, it just doesn't seem feasible.

Poor Doremi. When will she get her steak? Also, how did her turning all the lights green for Aiko's dad not result in a disaster? Did it automatically turn the lights at all the intersections red? Other people have to rush home to see their families too, you know.

It's supposed to be starting from the beginning of the manga from what I hear.

And you should watch because it should have some awesome action scenes like this and this. (these are from the Hoshi no Umi OVAs)

Dem feels. So many of them.

I can't believe this incredible journey is over. This has been, and probably will be, the most fun I've had watching science fiction since the early days of Stargate SG-1. There are just so many lessons that I have to assume the Japanese production crew must have learned from watching the shitshows that BSG and JJTrek turned into as reboots and they're all applied here to create something that - I admittedly have to assume - venerates the original series but modernizes the series in a way that makes it meaningful to a contemporary audience.

Even how they handled the ending and the
retcon of a certain death shits over what JJ did in a recent movie this year.

There are the small twiddly bits that are just weird - at times, it feels like they added more female cast members not to diversify the crew but to have more figurines to sell to otaku, but unlike say JJ showing Carol Marcus half naked in his crappy movie, at least these characters are more than just pretty women to gawk at.

As for the actual denouement, it serves as a nice quiet ending to the fucking balls out cliffhanger from last week. The journey back to Earth is framed by
the circle of life and death and rebirth... with the wedding, the captain's death, and of course, the "miracle" that happens with a certain character. They don't show how Earth is saved by this magical technology, because you already see it happen, so ending the show with the crew disappearing into a point of light and a blue Earth rising out of the darkness is just perfect
.

There are obvious questions, which is probably why there is a 2014 project, but it is an emotional ending to the previous episode's explosive climax.
There is no need for a gimmick, like the crew of the Galactica being our ancestors, or Khan with his blood of immortality, or the entire cast of characters going to a church and going to heaven or whatever bullshit SyFy has dumped on me in the last decade. It's just an ending marked by beauty and contemplation, one that is just simply happy and posits an end of a narrative rather than one that tries to make some shitty grand revelation or final plot twist for the sake of trying to be "memorable".
It's the perfect desert after a hearty and filling full course meal.

I know like only 5 people here will watch this show. But those 5 people will experience one of the greatest science fiction stories of the modern era. (It might even bump Aria off the top of whatever theoretical list I might make, which is just fucking inconceivable for me).

9yZq6vCl.png

And a salute to you too, my dear Yamato. See you in a year.

Not as good as the previous two or three episodes, but not bad. Just kinda slow and the

was kinda dumb. But coming up next is the super long "school festival" arc, and that's got some damn good moments in it.

Oh, and I can't believe I forgot to post this from the previous episode:
