Psycho Pass 06
Jeez. I am having more trouble than I should figuring out what it is I dislike about this show, because a lot of stuff bugs me but determining which error is the most egregious isn't exactly easy.
I think one of the major things it comes down to is scope.
Psycho Pass tries to be this big thing with a wide cast of characters who it jumps between to tell a larger narrative. For example, let's just look at the
of this case. They are introduced up front in a scene dedicated to only them, but why? Her character is never built up. Why do we get this view into the school at all?
This show is terrible at doling out information, and the jumps between scenes feels jarring as
Pyscho Pass shoots between meaningless characters that I neither know nor care about. Even when the show tries to establish some character backstory (surprise, it is dark and filled with regret) it feels impersonal. Like, the show has this information and you need to know it so it just kind of reads it off the list.
Psycho Pass is based more around its cases than its characters, but the way these play out is uninteresting because there is no investment in those characters its made up of. Even the cases themselves hold no surprises as the show reveals all the necessary information beforehand. I realize that this episode is setting up something longer, but it doesn't even have its own climax. Maybe that's because the confrontational scenes are as
flat as the art portraying the event.
