“The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon watched his show’s ratings take a hit yet again on Tuesday as competitor “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” won its fifth straight week in overall viewers — and sources say Fallon’s being forced to change his strategy to win back eyeballs.

“[Fallon] is feeling the pressure. I mean, Stephen Colbert is now beating him in a big way and he has to change his format to keep up because he’s losing viewers,” said a source, adding that Fallon’s getting more political. “They had to figure out a way to get Trump [into his routine] because he’s too weak on Trump, and viewers are going elsewhere. [He’s been] uncomfortable talking about politics, and that’s not what the people want.

Fallon's strength and his weakness is he is super bland and inoffensive. That "oh look I love the 90s" bullshit doesn't play for the 11:30 crowd. He isn't bad, but he isn't exciting, daring, or smart either

Except for in his taste in music, Colbert > Letterman.

Letterman had some legit good stuff on in his day.

I guess you can't throw up nostalgia for years and years and expect it to keep working as well as it did before.

Fallon's running out of things to go "hey guys, remember" with.

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
Colbert played the long game and it paid off. He just puts out a better late night product. Fallon's show is too light and sugar coated to get into Colbert's lane, especially when it comes to politics.

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
Hey NBC, have I got the man for the job...

Edit: ^^^ Fuck Goo!

Ugh no... please don't infest his show with a bunch of politics. I still prefer Kimmel, but Fallon was a nice refreshing change of pace from all the redundant political jokes.

Fallon needed another decade or more to learn how to host one of these shows in the late night slot. The Conan/Leno stuff followed by Leno coming back and then leaving almost right away thrust him into the big chair as some dope that didn't know what he was doing.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
I never take these kind of reports too seriously. Everything is always doom and gloom in Late Night and if you believed everything that gets trickled out it would sound reactionary and scatterbrained as hell.

Not saying there isn't truth somewhere there and I'm glad to see Colbert get a footing, but I doubt NBC is too worried as long as Fallon is still winning the demo.

Love that colbert is finally beating him in ratings consistently

But fallon going political...is not the right move. He has never been into that it's just gonna be awkward

Kind of hard to give a shit about Spencer Pratt lip syncing Eye of The Tiger when the world is burning.

Thanks for doing your part Jimmy ya ass.

Fallon will turn heel and invite Trump back on his show.

Ratings for that night (and commercial revenue) will set an all-time record.

Which is funny since those were the exact same criticisms that Leno always received when he was the host.

How's Colbert lately? I never disliked the show, but its highs were never really all that high. Is the show finally finding its footing, or this this just people looking for some Colbert Report that isn't there?

Donald Trump being elected is the best possible thing that could have happened for Stephen Colbert. He's got four years of material that practically writes itself.

Fallon is too neutral on politics and no one wants to watch that right now. Pick a side! The left wing comedian market is pretty saturated so maybe he should go all out in supporting Trump and bashing the left. Of course that would be a terrible lead in for Seth Meyers who hates Trump so that may not work either. Just leave television and don't relapse on cocaine, Fallon

get some go again
i love that ball washing he gave trump resulted in him losing in ratings. hope that was colbert's hugh grant moment.

Living in the shadow of Amaz
Fallon can rot for all I care. His cookie cutter show about Kevin Hart lip-syncing and grow-ups playing xylophones simply cannot survive the times we're currently living in.

Colbert deserves its success.

Fallon comes out in fake beard

"Uh, hey everyone! I grew a beard! Oh wait, these are just Trump's ball hairs. Ha!"

There you go Fallon, that one's free

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
i shudder at the thought of fallon attempting political jokes

Biting political commentary from Jimmy Fallon: Democrats get outraged too much and conservatives are dumb hicks! *laughs at his own joke for too long*
