Fallout 3 and New Vegas mod discussion

Egh, getting some bad stuttering.. I heard this was a common problem with FNV, so is there also a common solution?

so is the OP up to date with all the new ENb mods and later mods that have come out since then?

I got F3 and FNV during the sale and ive never played them. What mods should I install? I get 60fps outside all maxed out and i'd like to push the IQ up in a way I did with GTA IV and its modding scene.

It's kinda outdated in some things, but it's a very good start.

Here's some of my graphical stuff for NV: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=39948490&postcount=755

It doesn't include the latest ENB stuff, though, but it covers a good amount previous to that.

To that I'd only add that it's generally a good thing to also pick up FNVEdit and use it to check for conflicts in your load order, dirty record edits left by the modder by mistake, etc.

um, i looked at that post and most of the stuff seems to be for new vegas? Im playing Fallout 3 first, any stuff for that game?

I think I fixed the game... after reinstaling everything, including New Vegas.
I think the problem was the (No Cyberware) thing, but I will never know now.

Argh, I can't get that Archive Invalidation Invalidated thingie working... I've editted my .ini, put the .bsa file in the data folder, but my game crashes every time I enter or exit a building..

Could someone walk me through how to use BOSS to determine load order for new vegas?

I'm installing the mission mojave mod (the massive bug fixer one) and NMC texture pack. I have the ultimate edition, so it looks like there is alot of stuff to load.

Also, once I get the mod installed and in the proper load order, is it necessary for me to use the nexus mod manager everytime to launch the game? Or can I go back to the default launcher?

Download the archive version, extract it to anywhere, open up the boss folder and then either runn BOSS or BOSSGUI.

BOSS opens up a command prompt, and BOSSGUI has a user interface that you can utilize for more options. Either accomplishes the same goal though.

In any case, launch BOSSGUI then select what game you want its load order sorted by, theres some more options, etc. It does all the work for you, then spits out a .xml or html that your browser opens and shows you all the nifty details of your load order and any conflicts that arose from the mods you have installed.

Edit: Also, I'd strongly recommend getting New Vegas Script Extender, then getting the 4gb patch for it, and the New Vegas Stutter remover. Now, launch your game with NVSE_Launcher.exe , and enjoy Fallout New Vegas!

Sounds like a lot of work, but should only take 5-10min max and its totally worth it =)

Are achievements disabled if you bring up the dev console? My last play session I noticed that I didn't have the achievements box in the steam community overlay.

Yup, if you bring up the console your achievements are disabled until you close and open up the game again. You can save after you used the console, reset the game and load your cheaty save and continue playing.

Hey guys, if any of you are using the lasest version of RFCW[0.6b] should check this. I made some fixes. I'm sure they would work for 5.1AE as well, but it will be pointless somehow since in 0.6b all of the red triangles are fixed, excluding the one that I fixed.

- Fixed the 20 Gauge Sawed Off Shotgun & Kneecapper.
- Fixed the inside wall for Broken Steel in Satellite Relay Station.
- Fixed the Rivet City Helmet when is dropped.
- Fixed the Shotgun Trap inside the Hotel in Penn. Ave/Georgetown Metro & White House.
- Fixed the Oasis Robe & Hood for all the members of Treeminders, working as well for the player.
- Fixed the Vault 101 Security Suit all the members of Vault 101 and when is dropped.

I think you can bring up the console, you just can't enter anything in it.

Damn, guess I should stop messing with showracemenu

Also does anyone know of good clothing/armor mods? Nexus is filled with that shitty Type 3 porn/anime crap, it's unbelievable how you give modders some rope and they let their sexual deviancy run wild.

Yeah, I mess a lot with showracemenu/showplasticsurgeon and it's a lot of resets :P

Uh, you could try Tailor Maid, it lets you make your own armor by splitting the existing ones (and adding a few more) into pieces, so you can mix and mash shoulder pads, boots, etc. It was a little more fun in FO3 than NV because they were all over the map, instead of just resting in one place, but it's pretty much the same in both games. I also like the one that adds scarves to the game. Scarves are pimpin'.

Other than that, no, I usually dread most clothing mods, because they're usually either distasteful or lore-unfriendly.

Hey guys, i just got new vegas for my computer and im totally new to modding. What mods would you suggest to just dabble with to start? My computer isnt super fast either:

I5 2500k
560TI 448
8 gigs of DDR3

Thanks!
Check the OP...there's plenty of good stuff there

Monster Mod is a good idea executed so badly that I want to cry. Don't install it unless you like ridiculous spawn placements and models that clash with the rest of the art.

Caesar's New Regime, from what I can see, is a mod that risks conflicting with a lot of stuff and also seems to be undergoing feature creep, but I could be wrong, never actually tried it.

Last time I played it, EVE looked beautiful but was buggy as hell, required tons of compatibility patches and was fairly crash-happy.

As for More Perks, it was kinda imbalanced iirc, though it probably just takes a bit of patience and FNVEdit-powered trimming you could keep the good perks and cut the overpowered/buggy ones.

Personally I'm using an heavily trimmed down version of SmileyTops' Traits and Perks together with the new perks and traits added by Cirosan's Classic Overhaul (you can find it here by the way).

I highly recommend playing CCO in conjuction with Project Nevada (but not the rebalance module, for obvious reasons) and the J.E. Sawyer's esp, as long as you want a game that's moderately more difficult and where stats and build choices matter more.

Finally, Increased Wasteland Spawns does what the name says and is highly configurable with an MCM-driven menu, and moburma80 is the king of cut content restoration. Some of the stuff is redundant and unnecessary (they cut it for a reason) but the Strip Open and Freeside Open work beautifully, as long as you have a decent rig.

Yeah I meant lore-friendly stuff (cowboy hats, cloaks, etc). The Wasteland Seeker Armor looks really cool but the guy who made it is an asshole who placed it in Quarry Junction of all places. Figured it would be slim pickings though, guess most people just want to prance around New Vegas as anime schoolgirls.

How exactly does using that 4GB.exe work? Since you use that to launch the game, does it affect how the mods are loaded at all?

I'm assuming once you have your mods installed and in the proper order, you can launch the game normally through steam right? Is it necessarily to keep launching through the mod manager?

I'll add MTUI to insane0hflex and WorstUserNameEver's lists, since it's an absolute must-have: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/34902

Just did a quick search for the tags clothing and lore friendly and found this: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/44476.

Basically it adds a few extra armor/clothings and dresses NPCs with it. Some of them are pretty good. It requires bodymods for both males and females, so that's a shame, but there's non nude versions of those mods, so if you're willing to risk it, it looks pretty alright.

Here's a link to Tailor Maid, if that isn't to your liking: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/36660/?tab=2&navtag=/ajax/modimages/?user=0|:|id=36660

Satchels is similar: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/35904/?tab=2&navtag=/ajax/modimages/?user=0|:|id=35904

That Spice Of Life mod looks good, maybe I'll hold my nose and install the pr0n bodies.

Here are the mods I use:

Darnified UI
Never properly finished sadly, but still the best UI replacer in my opinion. Sharp and functional.

ADAM - A Definitive Armor Mod
Really nice High res retextures of all the NCR armour. Sticks to canon and makes the Ranger armour in particular look a lot cooler and more like the box artwork version.

Populated Casinos
Transforms the casinos from deserted ghost towns to thriving, packed places. The only downside is that is crams too many NPCs into the Atomic Wrangler, but the rest are pefect.

Refined Casino People and Suits
This obliquely named mod corrects the suit colours of some of the strip factions to be consistent with their lore. Clearly a very important mod that is essential for MY IMMERSION.

Nevada Skies - Weather Effects BETA and URWLified
Weather and colouration mod that makes things look a lot nicer and adds some interesting dynamic weather effects. Also makes things much darker at night which I prefer.

Inofficial Community patch
Can't find a link for this. Controversy time - I don't like ANY of the unofficial patches for this game, as they ALL add in all kinds of stupid feature creep shit that shouldn't be in a bug fix mod, they all introduce loads of new bugs (try starting Honest Hearts with the latest Mission Mojave!), mangle NPCs names/looks for no apparent reason, and misunderstand Obsidian's deliberate game design decisions (stop making Doc Mitchell's stuff owned! It's purposefully there for new players to take). This patch still does some of those things, but was made before most of the more egregious stuff of the other mods was added, so it MOSTLY fixes stuff that needed to be fixed.

NMC's Texture Pack
Replaces the game textures with super high res ones that look much better. Make sure you use the 4GB executable with this to mitigate the extra crashes that will result due to memory issues. Still worth it despite this.

Delay DLC
Stops you getting bombarded by a million and one pop ups on game start if you have DLC installed, and also makes the start of those quests a lot more coherent and sensible.

Courier's Stash selector
Stops the game dumping tons of items on you at game start, and makes it easier to make your own pre-game history for your character.

Weapon Retexture Project - WRP
Beautifully detailed high res weapon skins that look a lot nicer than the vanilla ones. Most vanilla weapons redone now as well.

Lucky 38 Map Marker
Simple mod that makes the Strip much less frustrating to get to, and makes using the Lucky 38 as your HQ much more viable.

ENBSeries for FNV
Graphics enhancer that completely transforms FNV and makes it look like something half modern. Takes a while to get going well, and really needs some technical knowledge to do so, but worth it. Check the official forums for lots of stunning settings from others. I wouldn't recommend this for first time players though, as it breaks a few ingame visual effects that can be confusing/annoying if you don't know what is/where they are supposed to happen.

Stuff what I done. I made all the mods below, so I'm biased that I think they're good/essential. They might actually suck!

The Strip Open
When I first got New Vegas I really didn't like the Strip. The gates were just plain bizarre, destroying the entire visual aesthetic of the place and making it insanely frustrating to navigate. Then I saw the E3 footage of it and how it was supposed to be before they had to split it up for the console versions. When this mod came out it was revelatory and completely changed the strip from a pain in the arse to the jewel in the game's crown. Unfortunately the guy who made it didn't have time to finish the mod and it was abandoned for a year, with loads of bugs and vanilla game stuff not working. So I learnt how to mod, and fixed it up. Now it integrates perfectly with the vanilla game, and even restores a few missing things like the Second Tops Promoter and his previously unseen dialogue. I couldn't even imagine playing this game without this mod.

New Vegas uncut: Freeside Open
The sister mod to the Strip Open. Freeside was also drastically cut down compared to the original plan for the area. Unlike the Strip, most stuff here was just abandoned. 90% of the NPCs were removed, and all the cool little random events with them. This mod makes Freeside an exciting, dangerous, bustling place like NPCs describe is, and restores all the disabled stuff like the gamblers travelling to the strip. It also restores things like Rotface's previously half finished quest, and over 100 lines of dialogue that were variously either removed, or outright broken. Again, I couldn't imagine playing without this. some caveats though: this mod by its very nature makes the game more unstable, and also breaks a lot of other mods due to how it works.

New Vegas Uncut - Outside Bets
This mod restores tons of little cut things. It re-enables the hundered or so NPCs removed by official patches to alleviate console saved game sizes, including things like the horrifically maimed troopers who are supposed to be found in the Forlorn Hope no man's land, and also the random battles that were supposed to take place there between NCR and Legion troops there. It restores several hundred lines of dialogue that don't work due to incorrect dialogue conditions (as an example, in the vanilla game Securitrons literally only say one third of their dialogue due to missing random settings on their dialogue topics). Previously cut events are restored such as watching the Lucky 38 relight after tampering with the El Dorado substation, or the final showdown with Victor after betraying House. People who tell you they are going to go to a new location after their quest (i.e. Emily Ortal, Melissa) now actually do so instead of just being disabled, and other events talked about by NPCs now actually happen (e.g. the NCR now actually have troops at Nelson after the player takes it back for them).

Wait, Strummerjones is moburma80? That's pretty cool, man, the Open mods and the Uncut series are some of my favorite mods. And you actually don't just cram features thoughtlessly, which is pretty rare for a modder!

Honestly, fuck that Nexus site. It says I can't log into my normal account, can't make a new one, can't download files bigger than 2mb without an account, and it runs like shit.

Any fucking ideas?

Strummerjones, your mods sounds really good. How do you feels they are bug wise?

Just asking because every time I have tried to play through NV, I have stopped due to bugs (I think I have been exceptionally unlucky.)

I intend to try again soon, but obviously I want to minimise the chance of mods messing anything up. I noticed that outside bets was not v1 yet. Are you still developing it?

The Nexus site has been having some database problems recently. It's the best mod hosting site around IMO, so you should give it a second try and register an account =)

It runs slow atm because of the database problem, and lots of modders like to throw in pictures in their description, which slows the page load.

There basically is no other site thats even on the same level as the Nexus for FO3 and FNV mods, AFAIK.

I do have an account.... it wasn't letting me log on

I tried to register a new one after... it wasn't letting me validate it

I can't download anything pass 2MB without logging into an account... The mod I want is 4MB.

I want to use it and I have before. But I also want to kill something for attempting to use that PoS.

Thanks! Be warned though, I'm sure with time I'll succum to the modders disease of being unable to resist fucking about with everything possible just because.

Strummerjones, your mods sounds really good. How do you feels they are bug wise?

I've spent a lot of effort making sure my mods are bug free, 95% of bug reports I get these days are due to other mods editing the same things and breaking stuff. I'd honestly say Strip Open is completey bug free now, just make sure to use a 4GB executable with it to minimise crashes transitioning in and out (the F:NV engine doesn't like loading in large worldspaces in general).

Outside Bets should be pretty solid. I only just released a new version 10 minutes ago, so you might want to wait and see if people find any bugs in it. A large percentage of stuff this mod changes is incidental anyway, so there's little chance to break quests etc as that kind of thing is rarely touched.

Freeside Open has some annoying non-serious bugs in its current public version that I've fixed and will release in a new version shortly, but there are also some problems with stability with this mod that I don't think can actually be fixed, unfortunately. I personally think overall the mod makes such a huge positive difference to the game that this is an acceptable trade off, but of course you may entirely disagree. If you want to try it, I recommend making some temporary saves with the mod to see whether you like it before comitting to using it, as it can't really be cleanly uninstalled from a save in progress due to how it works. If you don't like it you can just go back to saves made before installing it and everything will be back to normal.

The rest of my mods are generally fine but less interesting. Wilder Wasteland could do with a spruce up not so much to fix bugs as just refine certain things. I'm not sure what to do with Betsy at the moment. The cut intros should work perfectly, but there is some other mod that crashes the game if used with it due to the other mod changing the intro script (which is very naughty). Going by reports, I think it might be Project Nevada?

Oh yeah, new Outside Bets re-adds lots of Primm stuff. I'm a little wary restoring some of this, but we'll see what people think. It's probably one of the most radically altered areas in the whole game, with tons of abandoned ideas still on view in the GECK. Despite it being one of the first towns to be created it never seems to have been really conclusively finished off, sadly.

Okay, can you tell how I can get like that, on ENB forum nobody posted any settings. Others are saying they are using Skyrim settings yet by PC can run it. First pic is exactly the color for Fallout 3 green world and the other one for the fog death atmosphere. This two shots are splendid.

I have some companion mods, the New Vegas Bounties I an II installed, some new weapons, so if I installed Project Nevada would anything conflict? Anyone know?

So I been wanting to do this for Fallout 3 but honestly the amount of tutorials and the length of them just intimidates me. What's the summary of what needs to be done to install things like Project Beauty and NMC texture pack?

So Fallout New Vegas ENB just went from 0116 to 0118, and 0118 added DOF (broken on AMD) SSAO (broken for everyone but mostly AMD)... I'm bummed as an AMD user but fine with using my current config.

Does anyone with an Nvidia card have some screenshots with 0118 FNV with DOF? I'd love to see some.

Is there a non-nude version of the Type 3 body replacer mod for Fallout 3? Reason i ask is the PC is in a SFW environment.

Like this one? But for Fallout 3.

http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/34825

I tried replacing the textures with a bikini optional files but the textures are corrupted.
Browsed a bit, couldn't find anything, sorry. There's one for Type V but some of the armors seem to be pretty NSFW: http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/5326

I'm gonna quote myself if you don't mind:
zky said:
Simple steps:
1. Download the mod (preferably as a zip/rar or a FOMOD)
2. Fire up FOMM and go to the package manager
3. In the package manager, click on add new (as FOMOD) and select the zip/rar/FOMOD. It should add it up to your list in the package manager.
4. Select the added mod and activate it.
5. Close the package manager and you should see the mod in the load order list just below the Fallout3.esm, etc. It should be ticked.
6. Use BOSS to sort your load order (click on load order, and it should be last on the dropdown list). It's not perfect, but 90% of the times it works.

This requires you have FOMM installed, which you can find here: http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/640/

You can also use NMM, it's a matter of preferences and I just like FOMM's interface better.

Hmm, well I done all that, most of the mods don't show up on the load order list after being activated, half of them don't have any version or mod info in the FOMM loader either. I tried extracting them and zipping up the data and readme file into a package too, but no dice for the most of them. Project Beauty also makes Fallout 3 crash at start up.

I don't understand why people just don't use Nexus Mod Manager, it's superior in every way if your getting all your mods from the Nexus site. I have used it for Oblivion, New Vegas, Skyrim and now Fallout 3, never had a problem with it.

It's still a pretty shitty piece of software. It's gotten better in terms of crashing, but it still crashes. It still regularly spits back the "file cannot be found" error when trying to download from nexus. And for mod newbies, there are all kinds of problems like it telling them the wrong mod is the newer version and giving a "download with manager" link when the mod won't work that way. And there are still lots of mods that were designed around FOMM, although most of those won't have any problems with NMM.

On the other hand, FOMM hasn't been updated in ages, and lots of people can't even use it because it crashes whenever they try to do anything (including myself.)

In balance, I agree NMM is better, but they both suck.

Has anyone used the Project Ultimatum mod?

I used an earlier version and it was pretty wonky and clashed with the rest of the game, though the ideas behind it weren't completely awful. I'd expect, judging by that misspellings galore that is the mod page, that the mod underwent feature creep and general creep(iness) in full force by now.

Still, if you're braver than me, you can give it a spin, I guess.

Wow, that's a long of things. Did you install FOSE already? What mods are giving you problems, exactly?

I don't really like NMM's interface. I've used it for Skyrim and it works alright, but I just like FOMM better.

So, GAFfers, has anyone tried CASE? On one hand it looks pretty interesting.. on the other hand, the installation procedure is pretty stupid*, it looks like not a lot of thought was put into the compatibility patches for the DLCs, and some of the ammo types look like they'd overlap with GRA-added ones.

* and would probably be messier with my setup since I use Mod Organizer.. my Fallout: New Vegas installation is basically pristine because Mod Organizer does his magic shenanigans to allow for different profiles

I previously asked about Steam achievements disappearing being linked to using the console but it seems that whenever I use the 4GB.exe they also go away, does this happen for any of you guys?
