Fallout 3 and New Vegas mod discussion

This is a pretty basic question since I haven't really modded these games all that much:

I have a few simple mods and it's very important that I load them in the right order. No script extender required. If I set up a load order using FOMM and then launch the game using this (to make the game large address aware,) will the game remember my load order or do I absolutely have to launch with FOMM?

I'd rather simply alter FalloutNV.exe manually to make it large address aware but Steam freaks out and won't launch the game unless I somehow find a cracked EXE. The tool I linked above is nice because it bypasses all of this garbage.

Ona fresh reinstall..I started. Game started and I created..I even got to megaton. Than I installed FOSE..did same thing with new character. Than I followed the video guide guy had me install FWE and MMM..thats the video I am talking about.

I was able to play the game fine til than.
Did you install the FWE and MMM compatibility patches (iirc they have some for those, look for FOIP)

Are you running your load order through BOSS?

Yes I installed them cause it was in the video. I checked load order with his, website, and boss.

Also any tips on caravan? (New vegas)

Get BOSS and run it that will do the load order stuff for you. Fallout 3 and NV will always remember your load order no matter where you launch from.

One quick question. Once I have moved the NMC texture rars over to my main fallout directory and unrared them, do I still need to leave the rar files in there or can I delete them now?

Delete them, but they should be in "data", not in your main folder.

I'm sure you guys have been asked this so many times. But my brother recently picked up Fallout New Vegas: Ultimate Edition on Steam after playing his friends copy of the normal version to completion on PS3.

Is there any mods that you would recommend to improve the experience of the game? Preferably mods that wouldn't have problems in the DLC?

Pretty much all the major ones are in the OP. The two most important one are Project Nevada which overhauls a lot of the games systems for the better and if he is going to use a kb/m get MTUI.

the last page is making me think that it may have been a mistake to remove all the stuff about installing mods from the op...

reinstalled new vegas at some stage recently so I should be doing an update shortly once I see what's been happening since I last checked out the scene.

Since he's already beaten it I would definitely go with Project Nevada or FOOK. Both are pretty significant overhauls that change a lot. Then of course there is texture pack (NMCs), Nevada Skies (lighting redone as well as adding in weather), weapon mod improvements (weapon mod menu and wmx or wme), UI overhaul (DarnUI or MTUI), and improving the HUD (oneHUD and unifiedHUD).

The game runs the same as normal with FOSE..FOSE doesn't do anything but add more scipts. Its crashing either from FWE or MMM. It may be my internet download or something..I will just try again when I get my own place. For now I am gonna do New Vegas with just a slow experience mod.

Hmm, sorry you're having such a terrible experience. Ignore this if you've just given up, but when you deactive the mods in NMM/FOMM does the game work again?

Don't know if this is the right thread to post this but I cannot launch my New Vegas Ultimate Edition.
Bought it during the Steam summer sale and decided to start playing it today but the game crashes when I hit the play button in the launcher, already downloaded twice and vefified game cache, changing resolution etc and launching through the New Vegas Configator didn't help aswell. Steam forums say that some people have the same issue like me but the solutions from there didnt help.
Have win7 64bit, help :(

So far all of the mods for Fallout 3 are running fine for me except darnified UI. By mistake I didnt back up the menu folder when I installed it, but luckily using the second suggested UI mod in the OP completely fixed the problem.

The only thing I havent been able to properly mod so far is movement speed. This mod seemed to be perfect for what I was looking for, caps lock toggle remains unchanged but shift gives a much faster running speed, but it looks like its all bugged to hell. Quest to get the perk is bugged + it causes long loading times. Really unfortunate that Bethesda didn't include a real sprint for the Fallout games.

I'll join you if you do another playthrough, I feel like my mod list is getting deprecated and I really want to try Boulder Dome and some of the restoration mods made by a gaffer...

I miss Cass :3

Damn I'm stuck with these animation replacers.

I installed them with the help with this guide:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpSCya407Q0&feature=plcp

and all of them work except the two core animations I actually want :(

- The default stance (I tried all three)
- The pistol stance (I tried all three)

Curiously, the pistol aiming works fine (one-handed or professional), but what I reaaaallly want is the stance, cause fuck I hate the vanilla aim-at-the-hips stance.

Why is it that only those two are not working?

EDIT: It worked! Weeeeee

Trick was to uninstall the mod in NMM; start a clean save, reinstall and boom!

NMM is fine

Doesn't seem to be anything weird, but I'm not the best at diagnosing load orders. Try the easy thing: backup your load order and run BOSS. In my experience, crashes and terrible performance aren't related to the load order, but the mods being installed incorrectly or other incompatibilities, so I would start deactivating less trustworthy mods.

Did you do it step by step? I remember being able to install that mod, so it shouldn't be something that complicated :P

Oh and btw, I really, really think this should be in the OP; a series of truly amazing noob friendly videos by modder / scene contributor Gopher. The very definition of step-by-step fool-proof guides.

He's made lots of videos, but his latest series focuses on the essentials, and covers textures, shaders, weapon animations, UI and more. Here is the first of the series

Modding Fallout NV 'Ultimate Edition' part 1: UI

Agreed. This helped me out a lot and even some of the mods link to these videos in their documentation.

Any idea what might be causing crashes in my mod list?

http://i.imgur.com/TSfLl.jpg[IMG]

[s]Not shown: NMC textures, Aimpoint Crosshair, and MTUI. Doubt any of those would be causing the problem though. Seems to happen mostly around the Wilhelms Wharf crossing and around Rivet City.[/s]

After going over all my mods today, enabling/disabling, changes the orders around, I think I finally found the problem. I think it might be from using the full NMC texture pack without changing the exe to address more than 2gb of memory. Switched to the Performance version of NMC and haven't had a crash yet.

Does New Vegas also have the problem where it doesn't address more than 2gb's of ram?

These are fantastic and are giving me the push I needed to start New Vegas this weekend. Thanks so much for sharing them.

Replaying F3 again after putting 20 hrs into it before getting bored, this time I installed the Marts Mutant Mod and it's crazy. Before in F3 I basically never ran from enemies except for the occasional Super Mutant. With MMM, I constantly have to run away from enemies who are just relentless. He also added Wanamingo's from Fallout2 and they are terrifying when they come at you.

The tension and difficulty increases 10x with this mod.

Yeah, but there are mods to fix that. Don't have time right now to look it up but search 4gb on the nexus and it should pop up easily.

Hmm, a mod is making the game crash to desktop when I try to get into the gomorrah

Is there anything I can do to try and find out which mod it is other than disable them one at a time?

Nah I think I will just stick to the performance version of NMC's improved textures.

Is this 2gb addressable memory still a problem with New Vegas and Skyrim?

It's a problem for New Vegas (like I said though fixable by mods) and it was for Skyrim on release but Bethesda's patched it since then.

So I searched a bit and couldn't find this, kind of a stretch but still.

I played a little of Oblivion and liked that doing something repeatedly (using a melee weapon, wearing armor, etc) increased your skills. I like the current skill system of Fallout 3/NV, but was wondering if there was some mod to emulate that in Fallout 3.

I find Oblivion and FO3 to be such a pain to mod. I'm just too spoiled by everything being NMM compliant due to Skyrim.

Been attempting to get FO3 running for a week now, only CTDs or playing the game with vanilla graphics. ;(

I just used FO3 Edit to find the problems in my mod load order.

Like someone said earlier in this thread, the top reason for CTD's is because of your mod load order is messed up or one of the mods requires something you don't have which is causing it to crash.

The funny thing is that it was starting fine prior to my running BOSS.
KuGsj.gif

Probably going to work at it for the next 20-30 minutes. If all goes to hell I'll shelf it again and try again some other day.

Started New Vegas for the first time a couple of days ago, bought it during the summer sale. The only mod I'm using is the New Vegas Stutter Remover. Had a really annoying micro-stutter, and this mod removed it. Everything is silky smooth and a nice stable 60 fps :)

Are there any mods that make the game a tad more stable? I'm playing with a few mods, and my game crashes every 30-45 minutes. I am in love with the game, but it breaks the heart when I have to reload the game so often.

Edit: Nevermind, I found the mod that should do the job, Mission Mojave--Ultimate Edition.

The best way to make your game more stable is to find what is making it crash that frequently instead of adding even more mods on top of it, no matter how miraculous they promise to be.

Can someone help me out in adding the texture pack?

http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/43135

I downloaded the 4GB package and unrared but the file is in folder form. The other mods I downloaded where not this way and were easy to add. I'm having hard to figuring out how to add it via mod manager.

Disregard the Nexus mod manager, it's not a particularly functional piece of software. IMO, the original FOMM was better.. and if you want something with more features there's always the Mod Organizer ( http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=1334)

Now do this: pick up the texture and meshes folders and unzip them in the data folder of your new vegas installation. Be sure to check that you're using archive invalidation so that the new textures will be shown properly. Ah, also, install the patches in the download section.

Basically.. follow the instruction spelled on the mod's page.

Thanks. I know there is something simple I'm missing. I switched to that Mod Organizer you mentioned and added the files to the data installation folder but is it suppose to show up in Mod Orginizer? I'm not seeing it and and I'm not seeing that "archive invalidation" option.

Yup. Game is still crashing. I'm going to acquire a backup of the file, and experiment to see what's causing the damage. Loving the game, but crashing to the desktop every forty-five minutes kills the experience.

Going to toss my save file into a backup USB, and reboot the installation of New Vegas. That should hopefully fix the problem.

The guy who makes the ENB series has released an early version of ENB for New Vegas. You can get it http://enbdev.com/enbseries/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=911&sid=1f686c633d0b9ef170a900a36d04e000. It's early days yet, but someone in that thread posted a tweaked up shader set for it that produced some really great results. Here are some screens I took using that config:

The ones in the ENBDev thread have better settings - some of them have to be seen to be believed.

Damn, you're not kidding. Some of those are incredible.

edit: not sure if I'm going blind, but I can't see anywhere on that forum thread to download it, except the post by the russian dude which gives a google chrome "dodgy file" warning.
