Fallout 3 and New Vegas mod discussion

I'm starting New Vegas for the first time and I scanned the topic for the basic tweaks/fixes and graphics enhancements, but my question is should I use the Nexus Mod Manager (I used it for Dragon Age Origins without any problems) or FOMM?

Neither. Use Mod Organizer. It's at Skyrim Nexus but works just as well for FNV.

The mods I selected:
- NVAC - New Vegas Anti Crash
- New Vegas Stutter Remover
- 4GB Fallout New Vegas Updated
- Fallout New Vegas Redesigned 2
- Nevada Skies
- NMCs_Texture_Pack_For_New_Vegas
- POCO BUENO Texture Pack
- Interior Lighting Overhaul

Any other recommendations?

Thanks!

p.s, I don't own any DLC (may buy some if they get good discounts in the Summer Sale).

For the first game i wouldnt recommend any of those. The 4gb/stutter/crash stuff were good at release but i dont even know if its necessary any more. The texture pack stuff is okay if you really want it,

The only mods i would recommend for a first playthrough are a UI mod. i like Revelations UI mod on Nexus. Makes UI good for desktop play and does a good job making it "Fallouty." Also Mr New Vegas' Secret Stash.. adds quest songs to the radio.

Just a lonely Stormtrooper wandering the wasteland...

NVAC is 100% recommended regardless of what playthrough. it doesn't change the game or mess with performance while also eliminating all the super annoying crashes brought on from random shit at no cost whatsoever

im playing with jsawyer for the first time and its hard as shit

then again, the vanilla game is piss easy and doubly so if you get any armor/weapon mods

After just doing two playthroughs with jsawyer mod enabled, whew, it is no joke. Each and every quest is near mandatory for the experience points, rewards are sparse. Really enjoyed it, doubt I'll play without it anymore.

Off to Fallout 1 and 2 again for more!

This may be a dumb question but I'm looking into downloading full body and face mods for New Vegas but it seems that on Nexus Mods, nearly every body replacement mod is either exclusively male or female (but mostly female), gives guys rock hard abs, and turns girls into busty naked plastic barbie dolls with anime faces. Is there any grounded non-lore breaking better bodies I can find on this bloody site? I'm not trying to perv out on this game, I just want to complement all the nice texture and weather mods I implemented with non-uggo character models.

Don't think so, unfortunately. The best body replacer for males is Roberts, and I personally use Type 3 for females because most mods seem to have compatibility for it.

Going to start New Vegas pretty soon. Will check this thread out when I install it.

Oh my god... that would be awesome. Think I'll play God Hand instead though. ;P

If you want a stable load order, and more knowledge to avoid making mistakes that lead to large amounts of crashes during your playthrough, just use this guide. It's long and comprehensive, but it's worth it if you plan on installing more than a couple of mods.

Welp, guess I'll stick with the vanilla bodies. Kinda bummed out that the previously mentioned body mods are literally the only options available.

http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/34825/?

A body mod that Comes with converted armor without looking slutty or lore breaking .

There are seperate mods for all the dlc armor too

don't forget to install the eye child fix mod

As for males , you can try Roberts male body mod : http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/54731/?

Yeah I did check them out. The female body is fine I guess. I'm not so sure about that male body mod. Kind of dumb to make every guy in the mojave wastes have the same buff body. Can you imagine looting the corpse of some old wrinkly scientist only to see him sport some six-pack abs? Do you see where I'm going with this?

Well , you can blme Obsidian /Bethesda for not including Body sliders .

I think modders tried to have those included but it did not work like in Skyrim .

That's a problem with the base game, all males use the exact same body model, same for females. It's not really feasible to add extra body models to be used by different NPCs.

Of course. But on the other hand, I don't think the direction that the only relevant male body mod went with is ideal for players who don't want to have lore-breaking stuff in their game. It's disapointing that there isn't a male body mod that gives a general and humble body type.

Uh mod list please!
Textures, models... whatever. I need this.

OK, well here they are.

I tried not to go too overboard and mainly went with texture mods, and the mods that I thought are really necessary.
Obviously Star Wars is not lore friendly, but oh well...some of the texture packs also overwrite individual textures from other packs, but it's not a huge problem and can be prevented.

With all these mods it runs at 60fps/4K downsampled on my i7 2600K @ 4.5ghz, 8gb RAM and 980 Ti. I'm also using my own custom Reshade/SweetFX preset in which I've tweaked vibrance/curves/technicolor and added a tiny, tiny amount of chromatic aberration, which I know everyone's a fan of.

I been wanting to go through Fallout 3 again to show my girlfriend the story and overall lore before the release of 4.

What's considered the best mods to update the core mechanics and aesthetics to the game, without alternating the story or map layout?

Ok so after installing multiple ENB's i have found the perfect one for me

Overgrowth ENB .

How is your performance? I tried running NV with my old save(same mods, untouched) and an older ENB preset, and even on my 980 Ti it killed the performance. I guess I'll have to install a new ENB, I think the one I'm running is 1.67 or something.

Awesome, thanks a ton!

No probs, if you need the load order I can give you mine as well. You'll also need Fallout Script Extender(FOSE) - http://fose.silverlock.org/.

Guys,
Can my laptop run New Vegas sufficiently?

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz
Mobile Intel(R) HD Graphics
Radeon (TM) HD 6770M
4.0 GB memory

I have it on PS3, but I was going to pick it up on Steam with all of the DLC, can I?

Nobody suggesting J Sawyer mod huh?

Hardcore mode makes food and water worthwhile. I wouldn't have liked the game nearly as much outside of hardcore, and I wish that 4 had it. That said, even on a first playthrough, the survival aspect of hardcore was pretty easy. JSawyer's mod means you will be eating and drinking nearly everything you find, and I enjoy that far more. It also fixes armor, in particular powered armor. You can wear BoS or Enclave armor without training now, but training will let you use the servos to carry the armor, as it should be, so it adds its own weight to your carrying capacity. I don't understand why the base game doesn't do that. Overall, it might be a bit tougher for a first time player, but not significantly after getting used to the game, and a few of the changes actually make some things easier.

I cannot currently check how it runs normaly since my card (780 ti classified ) is in for repairs .

The above shots where taken while running on the integrated intel 4000 graphics card at 5 FPS at 1080 p:p

I have yet to play New Vegas but am planning on giving it a go. Are there any mods that are musts? Or should I go vanilla?

Advice I give for all games is to play it vanilla first. At the very least for a few hours. Know what you like and don't like about the game before you change it.

If you want the game to be largely bug free with no other changes, use Yukichigai's patch.

Which mods are the best for Fallout 3? I played New Vegas a while back and recently bought the Fallout 3 Game of the Year on Steam this past week. Reading through the OP I can't seem to find which one would best suit me, coming from New Vegas.
