Fallout 4 - Multiple E3 Gameplay Demos, Releasing November 10th, 2015

I feel like this game is going to be Fallout meets Animal Crossing meets tower defense meets Bioware RPG meets COD.

Unkillable companions doesn't bother me on it's own, but it's starting to seem like there won't be anything similar to hard core mode in New Vegas. I really wanted them to take that from NV and expand on it. I guess it's too early to say for sure.

Yeah, they seem to be going in the opposite direction of hardcore mode :(. Oh well, back to just enforcing it on myself. Though honestly, the companions dieing was not one of the things I liked about hardcore mode (only thing I was at best meh on). I'm one of those that yes, I fail if my companion dies and I have to reload. So there really was no point of that in hardcore mode. And now I can actually take the dog with me cause I don't have to worry about him dieing (he died so easy). Though it sounds like you can't have the dog and one other companion (which you could do even in Fallout 3).

Confirms that there are still loading screens separating some areas. Not a surprise, but at least we have a concrete answer.

This is a bit disappointing. Hopefully, large settlements/towns are exempt from this, like the helicopter ride from the large settlement in the first trailer indicated.

Mr. Handy was confirmed as a companion, huh. Makes sense, with his name-associated lines and all.

And 'any' companion who is the current follower can't be killed, not just dogmeat, though I don't know if they can't be killed outside of that, but would assume so.

I'm sure we will, but I really hope soon we get gameplay exhibiting the different facets of Fallout role playing, so a better look at the way dialogue is going to work, how stealth and lockpicking works and also whether they've changed the hacking mini-game.

Also, really want to get some solid confirmation as to what is going on with skills and traits. I'm really hoping they haven't gone for a Skyrim like system where you upgrade your skills through use. I really want The Elder Scrolls and Fallout to be separate entities, don't like the idea of a homogeneous template

I just had the thought, wouldn't it be super easy to be able to play as your spouse in the game since you customise them both. Like after the main storyline where you find your family and they come live with you at your cool new settlement.

Don't know if it has been mentioned but one of the concept arts was of
aliens
.

Hopefully they do a bit more with them like the f3 dlc did, other than just them popping up and having a weapon.

Do we know if Fallout 4 is going to have some sort of vehicles? That would be so awesome and it would add new varieties of travelling the wasteland.

Boone was the worst thing about New Vegas, because if I had him along I never got to kill anything.

Fucking kill stealer.

I loved Boone though admittedly he was a little overpowered. But I don't think he was that bad. Now Fawkes, Fawkes was a game breaker. You could just start a fight, sit back, and Fawkes would kill everyone for you. Hell. I started asking him to stay behind whenever I saw enemies just so I would get to kill some one. He made the game boring. But because I was rping and liked him, I didn't have the heart to send him away. Especially since their send away dialogue was pretty mean sounding. So I just asked him to wait here when I saw enemies, cleared them myself (or had him see them and stop waiting but still got to kill some), and hten have him follow me again.

Companions are THE WORST aspect of Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

Not only the dialogue options are awful (that fucking menu is clunky as hell), but you need to babysit every single of them.

I shouldn't be taking care of a Brotherhood of Steel member when I'm only carrying some marauder rags and a shotgun because she doesn't know how to operate a grenade or recharge a laser rifle, FFS.

Boone would like a word but he's too busy neutralizing foes you didn't even know existed.

I never used Fawkes much, but the few times I used Boone he'd be sniping things before I ever saw them. It got kind of crazy.

Exactly.

Put it this way. I'm not great at games. I am more forgiving if a game is too easy than too hard. Fawkes made the game so easy it really was annoying. I liked him as a character, but he was game breaking as a follower. And when I think he makes the game annoyingly easy, that's saying something (I mean I was fine with Boone but he also was a little overpowered).

I set Fawkes against a Megabehometh. The only reason the Megabehometh (or whatever you call the giant mutants) won was because Fawkes just couldn't get in an attack. The behomoth would knock fawkes down, Fawkes would get up just to get knocked down again. He just couldn't get an attack in and it took a while but the behomoth would have won that way. I think I eventually killed the behomoth for Fawkes... but it was no threat to me cause it kept focusing on Fawkes while I shot at him. That's how overpowered Fawkes was. Even a Behomoth was no threat at all when you had Fawkes with you. Guy was a true tank (I think from what I read it was due to a bug, same one prolly that affected Dogmeat, that has Fawkes level up really high every time you level).

Boone pre-patch was pretty damn absurd, and Veronica kind of sucks at points due to her melee focus leading to overlapping with your shooting pattern in 3 out of 4 major playstyles (laser, guns, explosives), but Cass/Ed-E was pretty nice in New Vegas, imo.

Curious as to how big the cells are this time around in regards to loading screens. Hopefully way bigger than individual houses or whatnot.

Any links to the panel today, by chance?

edit: Apparently not streamed, sad day.

No loading screens is nice to have, but not anything close to a deal breaker if we don't get it. On PC, loading times are usually pretty minimal anyways.

Shocking news: Fallout 4 is big, ambitious and long.

"I've played the game probably 400 hours, and I'm still finding stuff that I haven't seen yet," lead producer Jeff Gardiner noted.

Game director Todd Howard further described the experience of wandering an expanding world during development: "I'll be playing the game and run into something and be like, 'Who built this? What is this? It's so big!'"

I've no idea where I'm going to find the time to play all of this.

Here's an Imgur gallery from the Fallout Reddit featuring all the concept art which we saw in Bethesda's presentation. Lots of awesome stuff in there.

Is there any way the OP could have all of the latest videos/images on the first post? It would be nice to have them all together, Todd interviews and the like.

Any news on whether mods with be available on the ps4 version?

There are a couple of articles out there on it. I think IGN has one. Basically, Microsoft is working directly with Bethesda in trying to overcome some the hurdles of bringing over mods. Hurdles such as making sure there is not copyrighted material, nudity (bummer), and that mods will run and not break the game. Things like that. As such they will be out on Xbox One first. Each company also has their own ideas as to how to implement mods so it's just going to take time. Don't expect PS4 mods even next year is my guess. I recall Howard was talking bout bringing Mods for Xbox next year and said further out for PS4.

Game of the forever (hopefully). I think I could spend a lot of time on just building bases and setting up trade routes and defending them.

Indeed, it's going to be amazing. Thankfully other than Battlefront and maybe No Man's Sky, I'll only be playing Fallout 4.

Some highlights:
Level scaling:
Bethesda is tweaking the way auto-scaling works for Fallout 4 to create more challenge. "We call it rubberbanding; we'll have an area [where enemies scale from] level 5 to 10, and then this area will be level 30 and above," Howard says. "You'll run into stuff that will crush you, and you will have to run away."

Radiant AI:
Bethesda's proprietary Radient A.I. and story system are also being used for your settlements to drive random encounters. It will determine if someone should be sent to your town, if raiders should attack the settlement or abduct your caravan, etc.

Storytelling and Branching Paths
Fallout 4's narrative has a lot more branching paths and overlapping of "if that than this" than Fallout 3. They want the game to handle all the fail states of missions instead of forcing players to reload saves.

Settlements
A list of your settlements will appear in your PipBoy. You can send caravans between the various bases to get your supplies where you want them to be.

Thank God about the level scaling, that there will be much higher leveled enemies. I want what New Vegas had. I want to feel like exploring is dangerous and can end my life at any moment if I am careless. I should be punished for trying to explore too far while not properly prepared or leveled.

And holy heck there is a lot of good info there.

A critical bar that now fills instead of it being random. The shooter aspect as been revamped they sought help from workers at Bungie and it is now more closer to other shooters on the market. Even Todd Howard as not seen all there is in the game it is that huge. And more. All of it sounds awesome!

I'm very pleased that level scaling is a little more loose. Having areas that you should stay the hell out of for being too low level is great.

NICE Thanks for the info man. I love the leveling concept... and they got Bungie guys to help with combat?! Bethesda Game Studios just keeps making me happier.

As you could see in the trailer, Fallout 4 introduces new modes of transportation in the form of the gunship, but Howard says they aren't doing cars or anything as well.

Man a motorcycle would have been cool...

So did they get rid of durability or not. I'm kinda getting that impression from all this talk about customization and building the same weapon over time.

This all sounds awesome honestly! Damnit, the more I hear about this game, the more the 5 months seems so far away :(. Hell, some of this info is making some of my fears go away (like I'm fearing not having decent dialogue choices <- that is my biggest one honestly. I love making choices while talking to characters and having what I say matter).

I hope not. I know I'm the odd one out, but I like it. It made it feel more like a survival game and one of the things I like about Fallout is that survival feel. It's why I get a little disappointed when I'm levelled high cause the the game gets too easy and less survivor like.

That's some great info. Very happy about level scaling and the fact that there won't be any land based transportation. They seem to really be pushing the story elements with more branching paths and mission fail=/=total failure, plus the biggest addition with voice protagonists. I hope they've really upped their writing game to make this all worthwhile.

Boone was the destroyer of worlds.

I don't know about executing criticals. The randomness made criticals more like an unexpected treat, rather than a resource that you hoard until you need it.

Yes, this all sounds good. I love the fact that quests have fail states other than dieing. Though knowing myself I'll just restart and retry (I have a hard time accepting failure. But I like that I can fail in more ways than dieing).

God, I need to stop reading on this game. The more I hear the more impatient/excited I get. I'm going to Yellowstone in 2 days and I'm more excited for this game!

I have to agree here though. But I don't expect to agree with everything. Long as what I love most about the game isn't drastically changed and it's fun factor outshines the flaws that is what matters.

It could be interesting. Treating it as a resource rather than some random chance thing. Rather than being in a tough spot and hoping you get lucky you can choose to use your crit to overcome the odds, but then you'll be without it for some period of time where you may find yourself in another tough spot and you'll no longer have that option.

Hopefully even with 10 Luck and whatever perks recharge it faster don't result in some near instant replenishing of Crit and instead it still take noticeable amount of time in battles to get it back up, that way more normal builds will still need to use it with caution and not be able to expect critical shots ever 3 seconds.

So did they get rid of durability or not. I'm kinda getting that impression from all this talk about customization and building the same weapon over time.
I was just looking at the E3 presentation again. There is no repair option for weapons but it's still there for armor. Power armor at least. Also I just noticed there's an option to rename your weapons.

If item durability is in, I just hope it's not as limiting as in Fallout 3 where you have to have the same exact item to repair it or take it to a vendor. There at least needs to be a jury rigging like perk, or as someone said in a different thread you should be able to repair equipment with the random shit you find. And that does seem like a possibility in this game as it appears everything will have a use.

edit: The thing about critical hits is interesting. I wonder how much Luck actually affects how fast it builds up. I liked playing New Vegas with a luck of 10 and then getting all the perks related to crits. My guy was a crit machine.
