Fallout 4 - Reviews thread

Hell yes! But I will first "finish" MGSV and The Witcher III before diving into this one, which isn't happening anytime soon I think (not to whine, I love playing those titles).

How is it getting such good scores with all these framerate problems?

Contrary to what seems to be the case on gaf, many people do not mind a so-so framerate as long as the experience is great. For these type of games, at least.

And as far as I can tell the drops in the PS4 version, which the reviewers got, are hardly gamebreaking. At least, most people are able to adapt just fine to lower framerates that average somewhere in the high 20's.

Glad to see good reviews but the Eurogamer one has me scratching my head a little. The bugs they mention go way beyond framerate and the game itself doesn't seem to have improved much since Fallout 3. After the Skyrim PS3 debacle, I would have expected reviewers to be more critical of the technical shortcomings.

mmmmm, textures.....

Framerate means little to me, for example, as long as it doesn't negatively affect gameplay.

Same here. That one recent thread pointing out a framerate issue with the PS4 version, for example, didn't bother me in the slightest. However, someone posted a video later in the thread of the framerate being halved when aiming down sights. If that's anything more than an isolated incident then it would be bothersome to me.

At any rate, from what I've seen outside of that and stuff like the DF video I really don't see what the big deal is with the "technical shortcomings" some are banging on about. I don't care how a game looks, but rather that it plays adequately and, most importantly, is fun. From what I gather, Fallout 4 is the same old Fallout and that's all I expect or want. 3 was seven years ago and ever since I've wanted another game that's more of that and less NV. (which was five years ago anyway)

From Metro...

"Cons: Technically unimpressive, especially in terms of character graphics and frustrating load times. Almost no new ideas. Dialogue and set pieces are often handled clumsily."

That's probably one of the worst things I've read about a AAA game this year and it still received an 8.

it's almost as if they said other things with that and decided to form an opinion based on all of it.

what? there's some lines there and stuff. looks great, lol

Every review in a nutshell.

Positives: It's more Fallout.

Negatives: It's a Bethesda game.

And then rate it based on how much you enjoy more Fallout versus how much you are annoyed by Bethesda games.

Don't bother. Most people on GAF just like going "LOL user reviews" without thinking. Little do they know that user reviews are actually a valuable source of information.

Maybe they are helpful for some. User scores tend to bring out the extremes in people. You get a lot of 0s and 10s in user scores.

I still can't really believe this.

I'm scanning Jim's Assassin's Creed Unity review. Despite seeing talk of the glitches, and the thoroughness of the review otherwise, I'm not seeing anything about the awful frame-rate, sans a brief mention of the game not being 60fps.

So, and this is presumptuous, it might just be a case of him not noticing.

Every other thread is shitting on a game because of frame dips

Mostly same people in multiple threads. Don't kid yourself, if the game is fun most don't care. Witcher 3 is GOTY for a lot of people who played in on ps4.

You are going to have to come to terms with the fact it's not that big a deal to a LOT of people.

I couldnt give a fuck most of the time myself.

You do know that I didn't record that footage for Digital Foundry, right?

Posting someone else's experience to suggest I'm wrong about MY experience is, well, kinda not clever.

Wow. Did Sony and Microsoft provide you with better hardware than us. I'm so jelous of the press.

Curious as to why Destructoid has been giving 7 for most of the major games. I mean Halo 5 got 7, Rise of the Tomb Raider 7.5, Fallout 4 7.5, only Black Ops recently got more with 8.5

The reviews are well done. Maybe they're just tired of good games getting instant 9's etc.

I hope so very much that it ends up with a MC of 89. Just because Bethesda screwed Obsidian out of all of their royalties with New Vegas because it didn't reach that 85 MC.

This made me laugh, like.. quite a lot.

I'm loving how story, companions and NPCs are featuring as positives from a lot of review sites: finally it seems Beth has delivered on a personal, emotive adventure :).

Destructoid

They're gonna shake up the games industry!

i'm honestly amazed that some people have such a negative view of Bethesda/fallout 4 that they are turning on Jim Sterling. I mean, of all the people to go after, you choose Jim fucking Sterling. Christ people....

sure on GAF. The general public won't give a shit.

People dealt with Oblivion, Fallout3, New Vegas, and Skyrim. Most of the people buying these games probably don't care. Just because you see a few threads on GAF about it doesn't translate to what the average consumer thinks.

GAF is a gaming enthusiast forum. We pick apart even the most minute things in fine detail. Your average joe buying this game may get annoyed at the occasional bug or crash but overall I doubt it'll hinder their enjoyment of the game.
