Fallout New Vegas |OT| Obsidian does what Bethesdon't

My PC version is freezing every 15 minutes or so. So annoying.

Is that a common issue?
It's the gamebryo engine, it has an unusually large number of issues. It's even legendary for being buggy, crashy, laggy, etc. on PS3 and 360.

Not sure what your PC config is, but the most direct way to troubleshoot is make a clean Windows install and test on that. If it's a driver issue you might have better luck running it on XP instead of Vista or 7 (this applies to Fallout 3 and Oblivion in addition to New Vegas).

Oh and make sure you have a clean install of New Vegas (no mods) of course.

Damn it. I'll remove my few mods and reinstall it. I hope it gets better. Loving the game so far.
Try resetting to default your .ini files if you made any unstable changes to them, too.

The more mods you install and the more you play the more unstable it gets, but it should never get that bad.

I've had more than 50 different mods installed at once and I wouldn't get crashes that frequently.

I don't it is a config issue because it runs at 1600x900@60 all the time with 4X AA.

Last year I played through fallout 3 just fine and I played also 25 hours of oblivion and I don't remeber these problems. I have formated my PC 2 months ago tough, but the config is the same.

I''m not willing to perform a clean Windows install just now, but if I can't run it properly I'll check it againg in a few months when I fell like formating my PC again.

Anyway, thanks for the advices. They might be useful.

Oh, could it be something related to the SLI? I'll try disable it at nvidia settings and see what happens.

My FNV install has become wildly inconsistent in terms of performance. CTDs are rare, but I'm experiencing random stuttering and FPS drops quite a bit. I probably will do a delete and clean install soon, seeing as I've modded the heck out of the game since my Oct 2010 download.

Try starting a new game and see if you have any issues. Stuttering and FPS drops are usually related to time played or save file size.. remember the notorious Skyrim PS3 save/RAM issues? Same thing.

Yea, I've done that a few times. The problems starting creeping in about 7-8 months ago, around the time Lonesome Road was released I think.

If you're playing on PC, try bringing up the console (tilde key ~) and type "coc SunsetSarsaparillaHeadquarters" without the quote marks, then press enter. Maybe that'll work.

Thank you. Luckily, I managed to get in by myself.

Btw. I'm enjoying Honest Hearts quite a lot. I read it's supposed to be the weakest add on without any connections to the other three add ons. Can't wait to play the others if true.

I didn't like dead money a lot. I can see why people dug the vibe of the place since it's sure laid on thick, but I really don't like the style and mood of it at all whereas the abandoned nature reserve thing was quite cool with the camping sites and what have you.

Lonesome Road started off easy with its initial, slightly generic enemies. That all changed with the introduction of
Tunnelers,
and I love the combination of a flare gun, flash bangs, and frenetic running through swarms. But nothing prepared me for
ten goddamn deathclaws
on a ruined highway set above debris. Again, LR has dat atmosphere to spare.

Love ED-E's story so far too. :D

Still immensely enjoying my modded New Vegas experience. The best part still remains the very threatening nature of night time. I almost always go searching for the nearest bed once it gets dark. The one thing I'm little disappointed in is how immensely powerful companions still are. Boone pretty much destroys everything except Deathclaws and if I'm remembering right Veronica with a Supersledge and power armor is basically unstoppable. I think I might just turn up my weight-limit and go companion-less after I trigger all their quest.

One thing that I had never realized till now is just how little spread laser weapons have, but because of the retical Project Nevada gives you can tell how much spread the gun has.

Sigh... I installed the E.V.E mod to see what it was like yesterday and for whatever reason my entire games broke. I uninstalled the mod and the game continued to CTD. Tried reverting the game back to its original state and still nothing. My earliest save that still works is only 7 hours in. I'm so damn upset. I still don't know exactly what happened since once I reinstalled the game and put all my mods back in including eve it works fine. It must have been some strange load order thing.

I played Dead Money and I'm still not sure if I like it or not. The story is neat and its extremely tense, but I didn't like being left feeling so vulnerable at the start with such a weak set of tools. I guess a lot of it has to do with the way its balanced in relation to the unmodded version of the game and Project Nevada's tweaks.

Elijah was great to meet and I kind of hope he shows up in Old World Blues somehow. I also like the fact that the DLC has what I guess is a unified narrative and keeps making references to Ulysses.

Finished Honest Hearts and liked it quite a lot. Dead Money is next.

I really enjoyed it, and can't wait to try out the alternative path to the one I selected in its endgame quest. I liked Joshua so much I
helped him slaughter.
I loved the enemies and their arrangements, it was extremely fun to play with a stealth character when tasked with maneuvering around patrols.

Lonesome Road is absolutely awesome so far, I've found out most of ED-E's story, and can't wait to see what Courier Six's past transgressions were really all about. Also, I loved that they forced you to
launch a nuclear weapon in the Divide.

Game is just too goddamn good.

Not digging Dead Money so far. At all. I've
found two out of three companions so far
and hope it's over soon. It's boring me to tears at the moment.

To be honest, I don't think you're going to like it much. If you don't like the Sierra Madre environment/lore/mood by now, you're probably going to be bored to tears for the rest of the time. It's very hit and miss I think.

Lonesome Road is wickedly good with things like the one in your spoiler-tagged section. I love when games, like Bioshock, do commentary on things we take for granted in games, and it's the main reason why I really love LR so much. It's so weird having an RPG blame you for something that happened before you got control of your character, I love it :)

Huh, that's too bad. The characters and storyline in DM were amazing to me, and after like 50 hours of being overpowered, I found being stripped of all I had made the gameplay really refreshing...

Joshua was a magnificent character. I wish you could recruit him as a companion after finishing HH :lol would be sweet.

The guy who voiced Joshua, Keith Szarabajka, always does great work. He was fantastic in L.A. Noire.

DM has a cool story and some great atmosphere, but yeah...I kinda hated it as well. Not very fun to play.

After going through it once, I learned to really appreciate scrounging around for supplies and ammo after being a walking powerhouse. It was a change of pace from blowing the shit out of everything I saw. Plus the holo-rifle is one of the most op weapons alive after you find all the upgrades.

But from a game play perspective, I can agree that losing all your hard fought gear was one of the major down points. It was cool storywise, but taking away all your tools was kinda shitty, especially with a generic gun build. The enemies have way too much health.

I just played through Dead money again this time without all the hardcore mods turned on and it became far more enjoyable. That sequence is just not reasonable with all the stuff I had turned on. Dog/God was great hes the first Nightkin I've met that didn't seem just silly. I agree with Joshua being a really well done character. I read through his character page on the Fallout wiki and it looks like he would have been the first companion you could meet in Van Buren. I wish Joshua had stayed in the main game as the "evil" companion it would probably have helped flesh out the Legion more.

I started Old World Blues this afternoon and wow is it strange. I recently watched the first season of the Venture Bros for the first time. Every time Dr. 0 talks I see Rusty Venture and all I can think is of course he would preserve his brain in a robot and join a bunch of other incompetents.

I like the image the DLC has been creating of Ulysses in each DLC. I'm curious what his real motivations are. Its sounds like he's a Frumentarii, but his pacifism and likely prior knowledge about the Platinum Chip make me think he has other motivations.

How are you guys not liking dead money? I've been playing for only an hour but damn it's really good. I liked it the moment i was gassed and old man winter was explaining everything to me. The mood is great.

Makes me wonder if i should go back and download the rest of fallout 3's DLC. I only downloaded broken steel since everyone said it was the best one.

Broken Steel was cool, but I think Point Lookout was easily the best DLC for FO 3. That was just as good as the best of New Vegas' DLC, imo.

My issue with Dead Money stems from how brutally difficult it was for me with the way I had my game set up. The story and atmosphere were excellent I just felt way too weak in and it took me far longer to complete then I liked.

Point Lookout was the best DLC for FO3 it was formatted in a similar way to how the NV DLC was in that it was a big open area and you could do what you wanted there any way you liked. It also had maybe like for different story arcs to go through which was nice. I liked Mothership Zeta when I played it, but that had more to do with the strangeness of it all more then anything else. I suspect if I were to play it again I'd reach the same consensus as everybody else that its bad.

Am I the only guy that's still working on the main game only?

I am too. Loved it when I was playing, but at the time I was playing it Skyrim came out and I haven't had a chance to go back yet. Looking forward to when that time comes though. As much as I like Skyrim's music it doesn't have a radio haha

What level are you? Im level 28 and the difficulty is pretty normal so far. DM is pretty slow paced, but i always take my time with games anyway so it's not too bad.

I guess i'll try Point Lookout later on. Will be nice going back to Fallout 3.

I actually liked that they did this. It made the gameplay different. Having to start bare and use whatever little wepon you find.

I'm level 34 and playing on very hard and don't find DM particularly difficult especially with
Dog as a companion
but it just ain't fun. I reckon I'm pretty into the main quest now, thank God.

The ghost die immediately by crippling their heads btw. No need to drain all their energy.

There is so much humor in OWB, it might outpace Portal 2 in my mind for funniest dialog sequences ever. Seriously. I loved everything about the scenario, including the patrolling enemy set. They were extremely challenging, in groups, and wonderfully designed.

But the humor is what kept me there.

I was level 22 when I did Dead Money the first time with a very evenly spent amount of skill points. I'm OCD when it comes to RPGs and did the math before the game started to max out all my skill points.

I just beat OWB and it is some of the funniest game writing I've ever seen. I wish it had a bit more story beats though I spent much of the DLC just out in Big MT after first meeting the the think tank and didn't talk to them again till the ending. One thing that I really liked about the DLC was it was the first time I felt forced to use melee weapons since the Proton Inversal axe is brutally effective against robots. When I fist started the DLC I was having a hard time with the scorpions until I found an ax and figured I may aswell try it out.

I'm really excited to play through Lonesome Road. The reason why Ulysses turned down the Platinum chip job and his dislike of the player was something I found really intriguing before I even knew about all the DLC.

I'm guessing that a 20gauge shotgun with pulse slug round would do well in OWB?

Also, my music randomly stopping working. It's weird because ED-E can still play his Radio New Vegas, but my main menu music and my ingame radio music won't work. Ambient music and sound effects still work, though.

Try this: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/35868

Make sure you first make a registry backup or, better yet, a system restore backup. This is gonna be messing with your system registry, so better to be on the cautious side...

How do the vending machines work in Dead Money? I have all the passwords but what do i do with them? I know i can by items but where are the special items thats mentioned?

Once inside the casino Dead Money gets exponentially better. Still can't get over how fucking bad the Villa-part was though. I was that close to quitting Fallout New Vegas when I had to backtrack from the watchtower to the casino with all ghosts having resurrected (or rather come out of their lairs) due to the
Gala
.

If I recall correctly, you get your special prize items in the vending machine that was back at the bunker you entered when starting up the DLC. So to get your special items you'll probably have to beat the DLC.

I'm still surprised people had that much trouble with these parts. Maybe it was easier to me because I always invest a lot into sneaking...

As I said, I'm not having problems. The diffulty, albeit playing on very hard, is fairly moderate. It's just been horrible and boring.

The sequence isn't impossible its just frustrating. Like I said I pretty sure I just had a bad build for the place.

I jumped into Lonesome road and reached the highway section and fuck that scripted
Deathclaw ambush
.

I finished Dead Money a few minutes ago and I stick to what I said that once you get inside the casino, the add on improves tremendously. In fact, this was some of the best time I've spent with New Vegas altogether.
