I saw the PS2 version of Fallout today and was deliberating whether or not to buy it. HUGE fan of the series. Loved 1 + 2 + Tactics.

So is this game any good? The reviews are ho-hum but I want to know gamers experiences with it.

and while we're at that... any word on what Bethesda / Troika are going to do with the Franchise now that they scoped it up? Thanks!

If you like Baldurs Gate : Dark Alliance you will like Fallout. It's an underrated game and quit enjoyable. Only prolbem with the game is the camera.

my link works fine for me. they went bankrupt and shut down in feb. sorry.
"As many of you may have already heard, Troika has laid off all of its employees and is closing its doors due to our inability to secure funding for future projects," Boyarsky wrote in an email posted on fan site called No Mutants Allowed.

"We want to thank all of our fans for their support these past seven years," he continued, "it has really meant a lot to us that there were people out there who enjoyed our games enough to create fan-sites and follow our progress as a company."

I remembered Troika but I also remembered Bethesda. Anyhow, found this on IGN.

July 13, 2004 - In a press release yesterday, Bethsoft pleasantly surprised many RPG fans by announcing it had acquired the rights to single-player portion of the Fallout property. Already the developer and publisher of the acclaimed The Elder Scrolls series, the company stated it will develop Fallout 3 under the supervision of accomplished developer Todd Howard, who will also oversee the follow-up to Morrowind.

Fallout 3 is obviously still in a very early stage of pre-production, which means there won't be much in the way of specific details available for some time. However, we did ask Pete Hines if he could tell us how the deal came about, and also why Bethsoft was interested in the franchise given that the first two RPGs are thought to have achieved relatively moderate sales:

Fallout is something we've talked about internally for a long time. I'm pretty sure we made the initial approach. I don't remember when. I believe it was something we talked about with our president, Vlatko, at one point, who probably made the initial contact. Again, it's something that has been brought up internally, every now and then, for a long time.

We're big fans of the Fallout franchise and think it's a good fit for our skills and what we do well. Simply put, we think we can make a great Fallout 3 that lots and lots of people will want to buy.

Many gamers have already remarked on the potential fit between Bethsoft's open-ended style of RPG and that of the two Fallout RPGs. Our interest has definitely been aroused, and we've settled in to watch for any news and information that emerges.

Yes the console versions are very poor, I actually made it to the last segment of the game but just stopped playing it.

Fallout tactics on the pc is good though, nothing compared to the originals but not a disgrace to the series either.

I'm actually playing through FOTactics right now. I really dig it of course. The PC Fallouts are great.

I think I'll be picking up the PS2 version for a gander. Hope I'm not going to be hugely disappointed; I don't mind Dark Alliance type gameplay (although I think they're sub-standard and fairly boring) :see Diablo + DA.

FOT is great until the robots part. From then it's just save & reload hoping for a critical in the motor sensors.

its actually boring and bad. no real fallout feeling, no good story, no good design. dont buy it, its really boring as hell, even if you like games like bg: dark alliance and champions of norrath.
