GAF, let us celebrate on this day, July 15th, the 30th anniversary of Nintendo's Family Computer. Play an NES game and remember the good times.

Discuss.

I had a a Famicom and a few of those multi carts (100-in-1, etc) when I was a kid. I had no clue those were bootlegs and kept wondering why all my friends who owned NES's had so few games.

I just played Donkey Kong on Wii U. Feels good.

I also hooked my actual NES a while ago and have been planning to start Duck Tales next.

One day I'll go to one of those Japanese retro shops in Tokyo to buy a original Famicom and a thousand games lol

So many great memories with my NES.

I love the famicom/NES.

Some of my favorite games were produced on the system as well as some good memories.

I'll boot up some NES games later tonight

Happy Anniversary, Famicom/Nintendo Entertainment System. Thank you for the memories growing up, and for making my childhood more fun that it ever deserved to be. It's what got me into games in the first place, and will always hold a special place in my heart.

On the subject, I actually have an order for the Famicom faceplate [for the Wii U GamePad] in my combined order shipment from AmiAmi, but I won't be receiving it until the end of the month [since one of the items in the order won't be released until the last few days of July]. :(

My 'famicom' had Konami Computer written on it. The other one had the shape of the genesis.

Developing World problem :\

Funny thing is, the gamepad cords aren't that much longer than they appear on the box. I do love all 3 Famicom models I own, so I should express that love today. Maybe I'll play Doki Doki Panic.

It's funny how much my perception of the Famicom/NES hardware changed when I learned that it came out in '83 instead of '85. Pretty great hardware for the time, as far as I can tell. Tiny console and carts, too!

I've been playing a lot of FC games in the past few years and still have a lot of seemingly good ones left.

I adore the Famicom, and since it seems we are posting Famicom stuff, here is some of mine:

The carts go 3 deep. Really need to organize them.

I love the carts but my real passion is the Disk System.

So happy birthday old friend. And may the next 30 years bring everyone as much joy as these first 30 years.

I was just about to make a thread for this!
Don't matter if you started after the NES, I find the NES to be among the most major landmarks and milestones in video game history.

Yay happy 30th anniversary! I remember a long time ago(back in the mid 90's) there were many people who thought the famicom was a "knock off" system because of its colors and its name even when I told them it was the name of the nes in Japan and its the original system and this was in an antique/curio shop that had loads of misc electronic devices(everything from vcrs to calculators) and they had like a few famicoms in the display cases and on the shelves and I don't think they sold many of them(as they had nes systems as well) before they closed down, I would have gotten one if that was the case.

While I don't have a famicom myself(just two nes) I'm hoping to complete a set when I have the extra cash to do so.

Feels like just yesterday I bought the 25th anniversary book from the Level X Exhibition. I wonder if there's going to be an equally awesome 30th anniversary book.

awesome. do most of these disc still work?

also could you post more pix of disc game box arts ?

All the games in the photos work. I have another box for "Dead Disks".

As for more photos, it's kind late here now but I can post a few I have on my hand/computer:

Zelda obviously

Bubble Bobble (One of my favorites)

F56KjES.jpg

"What's Michael?" English teaching game which is based on a manga with a grammar error as a title.

pwTO87r.jpg

Metroid Front case/back of manual

That's all I have handy, if this thread is still going tomorrow maybe I can post more. But I don't want to derail this into a collection thread.

Famicom memory: I was a NES kid growing up but I didn't get my first Famicom until I was 21 studying abroad in Nagasaki. I realized there were so many great games that never made it out of Japan or were changed a lot for the US audiences. I became hooked.

I don't want to say that the Famicom is why I moved to Japan and have lived here for nearly a decade....

So I won't. ;)

I never played a Famicom. Start a similar thread on October 18th, 2015 and I'll have a million things to say!

I adore the Famicom, and since it seems we are posting Famicom stuff, here is some of mine:

I love the carts but my real passion is the Disk System.

And more Disk System games

So happy birthday old friend. And may the next 30 years bring everyone as much joy as these first 30 years.

That Famicom Disk Collection is beautiful man. I have a collection of my own but it's not as robust. I must say there is something awesome about running the disc system to play Famicom games. Especially the inclusion of save files to games that didn't have them stateside ( Metroid, Castlevania).

[Insert ridiculous amount of incredible, drool-inducing, jealousy-inciting, Famicom-related items here.]

Nice picture(s), thanks for sharing. I officially want/need all of that.

Desperately.

Excellent OP.

But there is also this thread I've been posting in:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=623531

What to do.. I guess I can just copy it all over and see what thread wins in the end.

***

The site I make videos for, Famicom Dojo, made this video to celebrate the 30th anniversary. It's kinda silly but we wanted to do something.

http://youtu.be/pKrSxrGpcJY

I celebrated today by playing some Popeye (a Famicom launch title).

Yeah, I should clarify that I didn't know that Cheese called dibs on making this thread a while back. My bad!

Wow, awesome OP.

And happy birthday to that little box. I started as a gamer with the American version, so it's something that I won't forget.
