[Weekly software and hardware sales figures] "Mario Kart World" tops the charts for three consecutive weeks, topping 1 million units sold! "Raidou Remastered: Legend of the Chou-Riki-Heidan" has four versions in the top 10 [6/16-6/22]

Sales ranking announced by Famitsu. This time, we bring you a summary of estimated weekly sales figures for game software and hardware from June 16th to June 22nd, 2025 in Japan.

The Nintendo Switch 2, in its third week since its release continues to perform well with sales exceeding 140,000 units this week. Launch title Mario Kart World also sold more than 120,000 units and cumulative sales have already exceeded 1 million units.

In 7th place is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe which will celebrated its 8th anniversary in April 2025 and it is interesting to see if or when it will surpass the sales of that title.

Another title worth noting is RAIDOU Remastered: Legend of the Soulless Corps, released on June 19, 2025. This is an HD remaster of the action RPG Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Corps, released in 2006. The story and characters remain the same but the graphics and gameplay have been improved. The main story is fully voiced, so even those who have played the original version can enjoy a fresh experience.

The Nintendo Switch version ranked second, the PlayStation 5 version third, the Nintendo Switch 2 version sixth, and the PlayStation 4 version ninth. The combined sales for the four platforms was 51,435 units, making for a strong start.

Raidou's numbers are nice! Surprised the Switch 2 version is already the best performing version of that, with Game Key cards seemingly not being a factor for the Japanese market at all

EDIT: don't post on GAF before having your coffee folks

So without promotions, PS5 baseline sales in Japan is now down to around 6K-7K weekly sales. Its clear that without promotions weekly sales for PS5 in Japan will be even lower than Switch 1 weekly sales for most of the rest of 2025.

Wait. What do you mean? SW1 version of Raidou sold 21k, and the SW2 version (key card) sold ~6k.

Is the same basically.

One thing Raidou shows at least is that Switch 2 may already have a bigger active user base than PS4 in Japan, because Raidou on SW2 outsells Raidou on PS4.

With MK World now selling over 1M in Japan from bundle and retail copies alone, that means that WW MK World sales is over 3M and probably fast approaching 4M sales as of now. MK World will get to 10M very fast.

And remember that SW2 Nintendo store and digital sales for MK World are not included here…

Yes, but both versions work the same for SW2.
Well not really, Raidou SW1 cart in a SW2 console has 720p cap for handheld and the SW2 game version is 1080p.

Also weird that the SW2 version doesnt have a higher res when docked.

Yeah given that Famitsu isn't counting MNS Switch 2 sales in Japan, i could easily see 300K more Switch 2s have been sold in Japan than the retail numbers Famitsu is tracking shown.

Well, first they need to sell 10 million Switch 2's.

Raidou SW2 is probably a very low effort port just to have it ready in time for the game's release, had they put more time and effort Raidou SW2 would likely have been a better port.

SW2 is probably halfway to surpass the WiiU LTD sales in just 3 weeks to put this on perspective.

Welcome to Japan, a country where no one can sell their consoles unless you have the word Nintendo in your name. Quite expected, everyone knew it would be like this even before the Switch 2 came out. From now on, this duo will not slow down, I anticipate stable sales until the end of this year, about that much time they will need to cover the needs of the domestic market with a new console.

Some people here said that's was going to be WiiU situation all over again… Good times 😂

Don't be too down, Sony can't sell consoles based on people buying CoD and EA Sports FC in every world market.

There was no reason or sign that this would happen. In the situation with Wii U, if you open the history, people didn't even understand that it was a new console because of its name. Plus a mountain of other problems, and here there was a good smooth start, a pleasant for Japan start-up line in the form of the flagship Mario Kart. Everything was done clearly and according to plan, so I don't know where such assumptions came from.

I think Sony is not very interested in the issue of competition with Nintendo in Japan, it is practically unrealistic. They live comfortably at the expense of other regions. As for CoD and EA Sports FC, I will make a bold assumption - expect the announcement of CoD on Switch 2 this fall.

No, you can't sell stationary consoles. Handhelds, are fire there.

The issue for the PS5 is the price. They were selling between 20-25K weekly before the price increase…
Yes but for historical sells, a stationary console will not do. 20-25k a week is the best you can get and even Nintendo couldn't sell a traditional console in Japan and get more than 10m sold.

Oh, I misread, sorry! I'll edit my post, this is what I get for posting before my coffee

If the PS6 has indeed a portable version like it's rumored, if Sony plays their cards right they could have their most successful gen since the PS2. It all depends on how they take advantage of that.

Impressive hold for Switch 2 sales vs week 2. Demand seems to be nowhere near being met. The flow of inventory post-launch is nothing short of remarkable, quite honestly. Probably why Nintendo feels so confident not bombarding us with new announcements and release date info for 2H quite yet.

PS sales decline in Japan has been a trend for over 20 years at this point:

PS sales in Japan:

Playstation 1:
19,411,000

Playstation 2:
24,420,000

Playstation 3:
10,469,971

Playstation 4:
9,503,963

Playstation 5:
6,804,660

So every new stationary PS console has declined since the PS2. I don't think you can reverse that. Japanese on average are not high fidelity gamers. The amount of Japanese that own a PS5 pro or a high end gaming PC are minuscule compared to western markets. Most Japanese would rather buy a sub 30 fps Pokemon game on Switch 1 vs something like Death Stranding 2.

Yup.

They can only reverse this trend with a hefty price cut.

Or if they truly delivered a compelling handheld offering for the market that can compete with the Switch 2.

I think both scenario are unlikely.

The PS6 will probably sell around PS5 levels.
