Fan Favorite PS2 Games Launching on PS4 Tomorrow

Guys the GTA San Andreas streamer just changed the aspect ratio by going into PS4's display area settings; the people in the live chat were telling him that's the reason why it was 4:3, so he changed it and fixed it. No big deal! :D

Oh thank fuck. Still only 30fps but I don't mind so as long as it's solid.

Here's GTA 3 running on my PS4. 1080p. PNG screenshot. Runs in Widescreen. Full soundtrack it appears. Performance wise it does not appear very good - barely 30fps.

Bit the bullet and got Vice City, wanted to see this emulation first hand. Well, it works ! But getting used to old control methods is not easy ..... and the trails blur stuff was absolutely horrible so had to turn that off immediately. Its Vice City PS2 in 1080p, just as advertised. Not sure if any music has been removed, all seems to be playing as I remember it. Also forgot Danny "Fucking" Dyer voiced the English guy. Currently uploading a video from PS4 for those who want to see what its like. Still at 30 FPS, and I cant remember what the load times were like on the PS2, but its still a lil bit long. Its also funny that the higher resolution boost makes pop in ridiculously more obvious, can see motorbikes driving themselves :)

Seems pretty good, but .... you know, disc emulation would be preferred.

Edit - Comparison for trails on/off.

It's a bit disappointing but I do wonder why some PS2 titles emulated got the 60fps treatment over their initial 30fps release whilst some maintained the 30fps target?

As far as i know, this isn't true. As long as games are uncapped from their original release they will go to 60. If they are capped at 30, that is the limit for these games.

Also, glad to see there is a native 16:9 option in the settings for all games

I guess it come be because animations are framed to the framerate...I mean I guess that was more common in ps2 era (perhaps?) and it depends on how much the developers let Sony edit their games to do trophies etc.

Maybe the GTA games were rushed? They weren't rumoured at all and it was only yesterday we found out that they were coming.

This is a possibility as well.

Now that's odd. I wonder how and why PS4 will detect an unlocked frame rate and boost it up to 60 but doesn't do the same for 30fps games? Perhaps it's like someone already said: to do with the physics and animations tied to the frame rate or something like that.

It looks and feels fantastic. Definitely true to the original game, I'm pretty confident it's the same frame rate.
Sounds promising for future titles, thanks for the answer.

Looks legit, even including the streched HUD elements, like the minimap. IIRC, that happened with the original release. Too bad they couldn't raise the framerate for such an old game, but as long as it's a locked 30fps that should be an improvement over the original which was unstable and prone to drops on the PS2 version, AFAIR.

GTAIII's frame rate is not good. Game is much smoother on OG xbox. Waiting for VC and SA to finish downloading, I hope those are better.

When they said the PS2 game, they really meant it, it looks like. It plays exactly like it did back then, frame rate and all, just 1080p now.

Dark Cloud works great, plays like I remember it. US version.

Rogue Galaxy doesn't seem to run to great, definitely 30FPS at most, but I can't remember how it ran on PS2 anyway. US version.

Re: The GTA games being 30fps:

The PS2 version of San Andreas runs at like 20-25 FPS for most of the time, so a solid 30 is an improvement in my book. Also, if you play the Vice City and San Andreas ports on Steam, there are options to increase the FPS to 60, but weird shit happens due to things being tied to framerate (headlights don't work, cars reverse super duper slow, and probably a whole lot of other things). Long story short: You would not want to play the PS2 GTA games at 60fps -- not unless they figured out a way to untangle the physics from the framerate.

By the way there are vertical lines all over the screen in San Andreas.

It's the same problem like playing on a higher res with PCSX2 but not as jarring. Still noticeable. :/

Played about 30 minutes of Rogue Galaxy, it looks a tad better, but the framerate seems worse. Kinda stuttery. Also I had to screw with my zoom settings on tv and the sound & screen options on the PS4 to make it fit my screen. Before It played in a bordered window.

Isn't Billie Jean by default the first song that plays when you hop in the car in Vice City?

Someone who has these, please :( It'll answer everything we need to know about these ports.

That footage looks pretty good! If you just wanted to play the old gta games with minimum of fiddling required it seems like a good deal. A ps4 bare bones remaster of 3, vc, and San Andreas would probably have been $40 or so anyway. This gives you the option to buy just one.

Was deciding between getting Vice City on PS4, rely on my PCSX2, or getting the iPad version which I heard was really, really good. Those early impressions aren't sounding too good for the PS4 version.

If you already have these and aren't bothered about trophies use PCSX2. THis is mainly 4x native resolution, and iirc, PCSX2 can go at least 8x and beyond I think. That said I heard the iOS versions were awful :P
