Far Cry 4 PC performance thread

Have you tried DisableLoadingMip0 ="1"
it fixed the stuttering for me. The game has been running excellently on my SLI 670's for several days.

wtf is this bullshit.

is not bullshit, there are a mirad of problems with this release, black screen, arena not working on some pcs, stuttering, crushed blacks, mouse aceleration, etc etc

no fella..its not bs at all

His PC should be able to play the game with everything on high and maybe even with one or two of the exclusive PC features enabled at 1080p/30fps just fine, matching and surpassing the PS4/console versions.

thats theory...because some of my console friends got a better experience with this game..yes..at 30 fps but at least no problems aside of that

btw i love you forgot to add this from the face off

. Unfortunately, the game is plagued with stuttering issues that have a clear impact on the gameplay experience.

Would the Core Unparking also apply to AMD CPUs on Windows 7? I don't have the game but a friend plays it on a AMD Phenom II x4 955 and also complained about hitching paired with a 7870 so I wondered if that could help him :o

Also out of curiosity since this topic came up, would there be any cases where Core Parking is automatically disabled under Windows 7 with Intel CPUs? I have a i5 3570k with Windows 7 64bit and looked into Core Unparking several times before for other games only to find out that my cores are seemingly never parked o.o

My Power Plan is set to Balanced as I dislike how High Performance makes my CPU never downclock even when I'm just browsing in Firefox :/

Have you tried customizing the "High Performance" profile? You can set the minimum and maximum "processor states" under Advanced Settings>Processor Power Management. I have set min to 5% and max to 100%.

Its funny. I had been getting black screen crashes and had been unable to play the game at all.

Today, I reinstalled all VC redist packs and verified files. The game booted.
Usb wasnt the issue for me...

Strange indeed. I had the same thing happen to me last night. Days of black screens and not being able to save in game suddenly disappeared after I re-installed drivers last night. Now it works with gamepad and mouse just fine.

Whoa I had no idea that's a thing o.o Thanks I will look into it! :D Back when I had my Phenom I 9850 I had my Power Plan set to High Performance all the time and was annoyed that my CPU fan was so annoying loud, later on I discovered it was because my CPU and the fan never downclocked so I avoided High Performance from then on. If it's customizable then that changes things entirely.

Utter crap.

Even a GPU like the 750ti can match PS4 settings (high according to DF) at 1080p/30fps.

A GTX 660 is more powerful than both the PS4 and 750ti, so what on earth makes someone think they'd get an inferior to the console experience with a 660?

HRAA makes everything look overly soft and slightly blurry. The PS4 version doesn't have volumetric lighting or God Rays either. And both console versions seem to have a weird bluish filter applied to the image.

a 660 doesnt have the perf to run any of the nvidia features. and again the hraa is much better than any option he can run. then theres the stuttering he will most likely face. with the DF article up, he can now make his own educated decision tho. i would much prefer the ps4 version if i had a 660.

My god this game runs so much smoother on PS4 @ 30fps , no stuttering whatsoever.. I played it for awhile at a buddies house last night, PC version is a mess.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the only difference between Balanced and High Performance the different settings from the start? Apart from sleep times etc I haven't bothered customizing Balanced much as it seems to have a much better collection of default settings.

I don't know if the Win8 High Performance default settings are any better.

It's highly customizable. :-)

Yes, I believe that's the case. I've always picked the High Performance profile and tweaked it to my liking, so I'm not sure what the differences are. I'm on Windows 8.1, by the way.

Except it's not a theory, it's a fact. The GTX 660 can run the game even at ultra setting quite comfortably and still retain a higher FPS than the console versions. The ultra preset surpasses the console versions high settings.

There should be no debate about it, the GTX 660 can and should run the game at higher quality and performance than the PS4/XB1 versions.

And what do you mean " i forgot"? Don't be ignorant here, I've acknowledged this fact several times in this thread and so have many others.

The stuttering usually occurs during driving and can be mitigated considerably by capping FPS to 30 and changing mip-maps to 1 in the .xml file. It runs very well on PC otherwise.

And the videos I just posted prove your posts regarding the subject are entirely bullshit.

no its not, there is a lot of people with stuttering problems in all the game, even with that fix...

i dont know how anyone in his sane mind cand defend how this game have been launched

no,just your passionate defense of this broken release its

2nd 2 videos are 660tis and the first 2 videos are a choppy mess. watched the first video entirely, even without any action AT ALL, its a mess

I'm not defending anything here. The game had a rocky launch on PC, no one is denying that.

You should maybe try reading some of the posts I've made earlier in this thread before making such asinine assumptions. I've been very vocal about the problems I've experienced with this game.

Port is perfect outside of insane microstutter that might or might not be fixed by fucking around with xml files. Glad they brought this feature back from FC3. It also has perfectly poor multicore scaling. Why let all your cores get in on the fun when it can max out one of them like most Ubisoft games. Port is a masterpiece. Just because you and thousands others can't get it to run properly doesn't make it bad since a few people are able to get it working flawlessly.

yea but im running on 2500k.

and my pc seems to struggle to keep watchdogs at a consistent framerate when turning the camera quickly

A 2500K is still miles better than the console CPU's. It still performs very well. Just overclock that thing to 4.5GHz (easily attainable, even on air) and you'll be golden.

The game is not a disaster for everyone. My experience has been great and it's one of the best looking games I've seen. No doubt Ubi's behavior and support are subpar though. Far too many people having serious issues.

On the bright side, after playing this, Assassin's Creed Unity's performance feels pretty good in comparison. At least Unity (for me anyways) doesn't stutter.

I had many of those issues at launch (stuttering, crushed blacks in sli, mouse acceleration), but thanks to this thread and other online sources, I've ironed them out.

I have many of those issues since launch (stuttering, poor cpu utilization), but thanks to this great port and ubisofts technical mastery, I still have these problems.

have you tried that xml fix, or are you just throwing your hands up without attempting to solve the problem on your own?

tell that to the people with black screeen.bad mouse controls and some other bugs

2500k at stock speeds
8gb ddr3
Gtx 970

Settings ultra
Vsync on

60 fps solid.

Really a great game! Loads are fast on disc drive or SSD in my experience.

I don't believe you. Not constant 60fps without drops.Sorry but no.

edit - assuming 1080p minimum res.

I have a 2500k at stock and EVGA 970 SC. At 1080p with vsync off, I'm getting a pretty solid 70-80 on foot, and into the high 80s depending where I am. Driving around on the ATV is 65-70 and in the pick up truck is 70-75. While driving there are some momentary dips to 58 when something loads. I did fly off a cliff on the ATV and it hit like 50 for a split second before it recovered to 60-64 range. That's the only major drop I've encountered.

Side note, EVGA Precision X won't tell me the frame rate. I have two monitors and generally have monitoring programs up on my secondary. With Precision X I can usually see the frame rate in the frame rate target area, but it does nothing with Far Cry 4. I had to use fraps to see what I was getting (didn't try the precision X OSD though).

What's really funny is that Ubisoft even gives Steam managed versions of it's titles preferential treatment over it's own service, Uplay. Just fired it up now and no patch available and still version 1.3.0. Why they even bother with this White Elephant I'll never know.

.

Where's the patch?

In six months, we'll have newer GPUs, updated drivers, and a patched version of this game that will somehow get us to an unoffensive 50-60 FPS on single card solutions at 1080p.

I think I'm seeing a trend where buying an Ubisoft game on PC day 1 is not only an insult to your hardware configuration, but a broken mess riddled with issues and headaches. Not worth it for me.

Will wait for the invetiable 9.99 sale.

Tried installing the game on my SSD. Loading times were vastly improved but really no change to stutter. I'm using the Batman Arkham Origins bits and they seem to cause no graphical glitches though fps is not as high as with the Blood Dragon bits. On them I randomly get flickering environment though.

Seriously makes me consider buying Ubisoft games only 6 months later when they're on Steam sale. I have a hard time believing that the issues would not be noticed with any SLI configuration or even with single cards. Yet another case of Ubisoft forcing games out before they're ready.

What graphics settings do you guys use then?

This is what I use

hdoSvs2.jpg

(Plus the tree setting ON)

I have all smoothing and acceleration disabled in the gamerprofile.xml plus the reddit fix which I posted a few pages back. I also don't use the in game v-sync - which I have set to off as well as triple buffering. Instead I force it on through the Nvidia control panel. The main times I noticed drops in framerate is areas where there are many trees, shadows, and enhanced god rays. Sometimes dips into the 40's. The biggest hit and where it's in the 50's most of the time is when you first go to shangri la. It's pretty heavy there it seems performance wise. Generally though, My framerate is in and above the 60's, often 70+ depending on the area and what's going on. That said constant 60fps in a intense play session? nope, but most of the time.

My system

i5 3570k @ 4.2Ghz
MSI GTX 970
8GB DDR3 @ 1600Mhz
Windows 7 64bit
Samsung EVO 250GB SSD

EDIT - This is the reddit fix, I highly recommend people give it a try, it really improved the mouse control. It requires a little more patience and effort, but only takes around 10 mins.Worth it imo - http://www.reddit.com/r/farcry/comments/2n5w68/far_cry_4_mouse_fix_tested_on_103?sort=new

Yeah, and the effect where a distant texture just wigs out on occasion is still there from FC3 as well. I get really fuzzy and almost looks like it's boiling.

Overall, I'm still really enjoying this game. I think it looks spectacular most of the time, and yes, there are performance issues, but it is playable for me at least. My wife was awe of this game when I showed her it last night. She doesn't really like how mean all the animals are though.

To save people some hassle, unparking cores is unnecessary if you're using Windows 8 and above. Just make sure the Power profile is set to high performance, which should already be set if you're playing games on it.

I didn't know this. I always unpark my cores before i play. Is this for all games on windows 8?

This has been in the engine since Far Cry 2... indeed.

In Far Cry 2 I avoid this crummy issue with a few cvar changes though. Dunia 2 retail builds need a console.

I didn't know this. I always unpark my cores before i play. Is this for all games on windows 8?

It's got nothing to do with games. Parking cores is a power-saving feature of Windows. Once you've set the high performance power profile, core parking is disabled.

SO. (yep).

Piss stains everywhere still.

Road popin not fixed.

Still need to disable mimapping else it stutters.

And worst of all, now I have a freaking awful and ultra obvious standing stutter.

Thanks Ubi. Good job. When's the proper patch??

Any reason why ssbc hbao appear with the darkest blackest shadows when on? I updated my ATI drivers. Got a 6850.

Any solutions? Game runs surprisingly well on my rig.

What graphics settings do you guys use then?

This is what I use

I'm just on the default Ultra setting.
Also on Windows 7.
Also have a Samsung EVO SSD but I've got the game installed on my secondary HDD, 7200 rpm.

I've been playing here and there on the nvidia setting with 4x MSAA just to see. Usually around 40-60 depending what's going on, sometimes with drops to a few over 30 but those are pretty short.

Also there is a setting that seems dropped to a lower value in the config file after the update.

LightingQuality="high"

Used to be ultrahigh.

May be mistaken but I don't see an actual option for that in-game.

Fucking standing stutter though -_-
