Cool, a non-fiction Far Cry. I jest, of course, but a lot of the themes being presented are completely real things in this country. Eagerly looking forward to people being needlessly outraged about white people with bibles as the bad guys. Will admit it's almost hitting a little too close to home, but I can't blame Ubi for not anticipating the political climate when they started development. Whether they're pushing though in spite of controversy--or because they've put too much time and money in to go back--we shall never know.

Example! From the Kotaku article, this incident is listed as inspiration for the game, where a bunch of crazy, armed white domestic terrorists took over and occupied a federal wildlife preserve for a month before the event ending in a high speed chase and a shoot-out:
Hooooooooooly shit, lol.

The clouds on the cover art...the cloud formation in the center is cheaply duplicated on the right side of the sky. Who the hell do they pay to do this stuff for them???

The thing is, Ubisoft haven't said 'Alt-Right', 'Neo-Nazi', 'Trump Supporter' etc.

They're using Religious EXTREMISTS who in the trailer are clearly being aggressive and violent.

If these people online feel as if they're being targeted by this game then they should probably asking themselves a few questions.

Exactly

I really really really love the look of this.
But i am a huge far cry fan the only game that did not interest me was blood dragon.

LMFAOOOO "Real gamers list 40."

Then he proceeds to educate them some more.

I think the two asking for more examples are just being sarcastic.

I haven't been this excited about a game's setting in a very long time. I think it will work extremely well with the Far Cry mechanics. I hope the map size functions well with aircraft flying speeds.

I'm going to assume most of those alt right complains were pre trailer, because I honestly don't see how this premise of local men and women fighting domestic terrorists in their own backyard isn't pretty much a fantasy fulfilled for these people.

Looks like this isn't so much "White Supremacy Group" as everyone initially pegged it as and more of a "Religious Cult" situation.

Well, there's no reason it can't be both if a player or critic wants to interpret the setting that way. The traditions and symbology of both groups do have just a little overlap. For marketing purposes Ubisoft does seem to be sticking to the "Religious Cult" angle and I think that's wise.

I think the main reason this has anything to do modern politics is because of inherent intersectionality more-so than intent.

I didn't even think of the situation with Trump and the alt-right when watching the trailer. It doesn't seem to suggest anything about white supremacy at all.

Seems to be an excuse for an American setting pulling from things that happened.

So why's this controversial?

A few alt-right babies crying about it on the internet doesn't make it controversial.

Keep in mind that these people are sexually repressed and highly sensitive. When they're not on Twitter and The_Donald, they're generally masturbating to anime or sobbing into an unwashed body pillow.

I don't know how much I want to play this given the current political climate. Hits a bit too close to home

I do not think it will be as prescient as it may appear. If they do not talk about how racist these duders would realistically be (among other things), then it misses a big beat.

But honestly, its nearness to real life attitudes would just make me want to play it more. You know how awesome it would be to RP a black guy gunning down neo-nazi christian fundamentalists in Montana?

I live in England, so I hear the same diatribe. But I still fail to see what this has to do with far cry 5 other than a religious cult = religion = Muslim?

I don't know.
FC5 seems to be about religion gone wrong, a religious cult and terror, and how far off is that from the current isis terror attacks? Muslim-islam-isis-terror. You get me? It's just with christianity gone wrong instead. I don't know, is that good entertainment today?

Yeah, this type of extremism has been festering for probably the country's entire lifespan and longer. It has manifested in many different ways over the decades, spanning the spectrum from hardcore white christian supremacist foundations to bunk ass new age spiritualism. Trump supporters should really only feel caught up in this due to their recent intentional courting of it.

This is much closer to something like the Westboro baptist church. Nothing about this makes me think about the recent terror attacks.

Lol

It wont, they aren't calling this a christian cult, they've branded it something else. The real christian is the pastor whose gonna help you blow them away.
I missed that. And so did many others it seems. That _could_ help things get less controversial I guess. But we'll see. The theme is still a bit unsettling imo.

It's just that chain of thoughts for me. What happens when evil people use religion the wrong way.
But I just saw that they had a real pastor in there too as well to hunt down the villains, so they're dodging the all-religion-is-bad bullet I guess.
