I'm hooked. Freeman and Thorton were fantastic. Freeman's accent was a bit spotty here and there (tended to push the r's a bit hard like a lot of British actors tend to if they're not used to doing American dialects all the time), but overall he was just great.

Did more than enough justice to the film, and this was just the first freaking episode.

Wow, that was an incredible premiere. I've never seen the movie, but I liked the cast, so thought I'd give this a watch. Glad I did! Is each episode going to be an hour and a half long?

If you liked that episode you MUST watch the movie. It is an incredible film.

You will be surprised how similar the premiere is to the original movie, setting, characters, their jobs, their conversations etc. This show looks like it does the movie justice.

Nope. Should be back to an hour next week.

EDIT: Next week is scheduled for 1 hour and 12 minutes, so they'll probably do the FX thing and run over when they need to.

Ah, okay, I see.

Yeah, I think I will, but I'm not sure if I should wait until the series is over to watch the film or not. How loose of an adaptation is this?

I can't believe there are 9 more episodes. This was a fantastic, and almost overwhelming, first episode.

I didn't expect all this bad shit happen in the first episode.

That's how you make something so dark and violent delightful.
Fantastic start to that series. AMC has to be envious of FX's ability to follow up strong shows.

I was initially put off by the first few minutes as I found the sons awkward and the scene with Sam and Lester was a bit odd, but how that serviced the story later and how the story itself unfolds sold me again. I read part of AV Club's (season?) review and I think they nailed it in that this will be in the shadow of the film and doesn't do more, but that's okay, because it's just as well-executed. It's definitely as well-shot as the movie, too.

Definitely enjoyed the pilot, and some really good performances across the board.

That was good. Was not expecting so many bodies so fast. I like that they didn't keep Lester as the sympathetic character in over his head.

Wow. Better than I expected and I expected it to be awesome. The tiny hesitation I had about Billy Bob is gone now - he was fantastic.

One thing that parallels the movie really well (spoiler regarding the general plot of the movie):
In the movie, all the mayhem is sparked by Jerry's initial actions. The plan starts relatively simple then spirals out of control. The first episode nailed that theme.

I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I can't wait for next week.

This show is so wonderfully insane. I love it.
Great first episode. At this rate there will be no main cast by the third ep :p

God damn that was fucking fantastic, best first/pilot episode I've seen in a long time. Hell, one of the best episodes I've seen of anything

.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
Billy Bob turned his creepy dial to 11. Martin was brilliant. That was probably one of the best pilots I've ever seen.

Awesome first episode. TV just keeps getting better and better. I knew it would be good because of the cast, but it still exceeded expectations. PEACE.

That definitely exceeded all of my expectations. The writers and actors nailed the characters, they could all fit right in the original movie.

And Thornton with that soft spoken menace, holy shit.

Edit: What happened to the prostitute in the club scene? She got a good look at Malvo so probably nothing good.

They said she didn't get a good look at him because of the blood in her eyes after Hess got stabbed.

What a great first episode! I had no idea what to expect. I'm really enjoying this trend of tightly constructed, one season narratives.

I could watch Martin Freeman emote nervously for forever.

Is every episode 90 mins?

Totally thought it was going to be a dream sequence after the first hit with the hammer, but nope, Watson went HAM on her.

Wow that was way way better than I expected. I went from disgusted When I heard this show was being made. I softened some when I heard it was a 10 episode anthology. Then really got intrigued with the excellent cast. And then warmed up to it from the previews to try it out. I was a little concerned in the first 30 minutes because it felt a little like the show was trying to settle in. But wow it really found a good groove of being its own thing but still close enough to use the name of the movie.

If this is big after true detective this might be the new craze in American TV and it'll be great.
